Stakes Preview: Grade II Sands Point Belmont – Saturday October 12, 2019 – by Andrew Rdesinski

THE SANDS POINT GRADE 2

  1. Dyna Passer- Jose Lezcano/Thomas Albertrani
    1. She is a huge closer who seems to like Belmont’s course. Lezcano has been a monster on the turf as of late, and Dyna Passer is cutting back to the Mile and an eighth distance. I think she can make a run late if timed right by Lezcano.
  2. Olendon(FR)- Manuel Franco/ Chad Brown
    1. Olendon has the blinkers come off today, and it’s her thirds start on US Soil. She is dropping in class, and is cutting back in distance which I think both benefit her in a major way. Chad Brown does amazing things with turf horses in New York, but with franco aboard and having another one in the race I just don’t see her getting it done today.
  3. Ledecka- Daniel Centeno/ Arnaud Delacour
    1. Has won two in a row at two different tracks on two different surfaces. She seems to be slightly outclassed today, and I think she also might be a tad slower than the rest of the field. Could be right there if the trip works in her favor. But she might be outmatched down the lane.
  4. Feel Glorious- Junior Alvarado/ Christophe Clement
    1. I love this horse as a sweeping closer today. Alvarado hops on today which is a little confusing, but probably due to lack of availability from the other jockeys who have previously ridden her. Her beyers have been consistent and she has placed well in smaller stakes. I think she can make an impact today.
  5. New and Improved- Joel Rosario/ Chad Brown
    1. The likely favorite and rightfully so. She is a Chad Brown trainee and is a closer with the best closing jockey in the country. Joel Rosario should have this filly ready to fire and timed right. Chad Brown wouldn’t put this horse in this spot if he didnt think the previous stakes race on a Yielding course wasn’t impressive.
  6. Romantic Pursuit- Dylan Davis/ Kiaran McLaughlin
    1. She will be pressing the early speed but she isn’t nearly quick enough to actually control the early pace. This godolphin filly hasn’t faced much and seems to be a hanger and probably one paced. But her beyers have increased an incredibly with each start.
  7. Souper Escape- Julien Pimentel/Michael Trombetta
    1. The lone early pace in the race which should be beneficial going long. I think if she sets easy fractions she can go gate to wire. However I think the 6 presses her on the backstretch and it sets up for the Chad Brown entries. Wildcard spot for a Wildcard horse.
