Gulfstream Park Racing Analysis — Sunday, December 2, 2018, by Rob Harding

Race 1:

#5 Discovered 9-2 ML

#10 Lemonist 3-1 ML

#1 Seven Gems 8-1 ML

#5 Discovered drops out of a tough allowance field last time out, but has shown the ability to be forwardly placed when the level fits to his liking. Would expect him to be sitting 2nd and 3rd in here and should have the lead turning for home.

Race 2:

#6 El Playon 8-1 ML

#5 Golden Charlie 30-1 ML

#7 WW Handsome 6-1 ML

#6 El Playon made a decent middle move first time out for a trainer who usually doesn’t have them cranked first time out. Switches from journeyman to the bug in Romero Maragh, and expect this one to break a little more alertly 2nd time out.

Race 3:

#5 Friend Zone 20-1 ML

#3 Manhattan Project 10-1 ML

#7 Bound Bi Luck 8-1 ML

#5 Friend Zone is hiked up in class off 7th place effort at Gulfstream Park West against non winners of 2 lifetime, and while this looks like a hapless rise in class, Summers does well taking blinkers off in a short sample (2 for 6) and this ones winning effort beyer, against albeit softer, puts him right in the neighborhood of what it will take to win this race.

Race 4:

#6 Archidust 7-2 ML

#1 Cobble Hill 2-1 ML

#5 Cold Warrior 12-1 ML

#6 Archidust, a rare Navarro trained high priced acquisition, showed brief speed in the debut at Monmouth in September before faltering in the slop. Got a month respite after that effort and has been working steadily for the return since mid-october. Navarro is a gaudy 35% 2nd time out and should have the foundation to take them all the way.

Race 5:

#1 Restart 15-1 ML

#7 Just Kitten You 3-1 ML

#5 Channeledbythewind 5-2 ML

#1 Restart takes the biggest drop in racing from MSW to McL ranks, trainer Gonzalez does exceptionally well with this move (57%) from a 7 horse sample, horse was 2-1 first time out, gets turf for the first time, and has some good breeding on the dam side for the grass (out of a Lemon Drop Kid mare).

Race 6:

#3 Musical Heart 6-1 ML

#1 Scam 3-1 ML

#6 Field Trip 5-2 ML

#3 Musical Heart set Twitter ablaze and got some people in trouble for the jockey not persevering with the horse down the lane at Gulfstream in August, but the fact of the matter is this one’s last two dirt efforts are good, should get a good trip in here behind the main speeds and you can bet with the eyeballs on him Maragh will be riding this one hard as they come own the stretch.

Race 7:

#7 Princess Gaby 5-1 ML

#1 My Sebastiana 20-1 ML

#6 Enoughandthensome 9-2 ML

#7 Princess Gaby pressed the pace in the debut before succumbing to a runaway winner, tried sprinting on the turf, and was flat on the hike up in class as she transitioned back to the dirt in the last start. This one goes first time Nihei and with a similar effort to that one in the debut, this one deserves a good look.

Race 8:

#1 Reagans Odyssey 4-1 ML

#8 Scatnap 7-2 ML

#9 Sun of Tara 6-1 ML

Reagan’s Odyssey gets back to the Gulfstream turf course (16 for 22 ITM), drops out of optional claiming company to conditioned claimers, and should be able to work out a good trip from the rail beneath Maragh.

Race 9:

#3 Francesco Appeal 10-1 ML

#5 Dash of Dazzle 3-1 ML

#9 Be a Hero 7-2 ML

#3 Francesco Appeal is the lone horse coming out of a mile race in here, and the cutback is one of my favorite angles, especially for a horse who has had success sprinting. There is a lot of speed in here, so hopefully it cooks up front and Paco can make one run.

Race 10:

#4 Second Mate 3-1 ML

#2 Bern James Bern 5-2 ML

#9 Ambassador Jim 6-1 ML

#4 Second Mate had no pace to chase in the most recent effort at Belmont, and might’ve just not cared for the Belmont course rated good that day. Returns off a 6 week layoff over a course that he likes (5 of 7 ITM) and should get some more speed to chase than he did in the most recent effort.
