Churchill Downs Racing Analysis — Friday, September 20, 2019, by Shawn Murphy

Here we go for another great card at Churchill on a beautiful day of racing.

Race 1

4-6-7

4- Drunken Fridays- well it’s Friday, how can I not start the card with this horse. Was claim from Churchill move to face tougher at Mountaineer and now back to Churchill for a high percentage trainer. Have a few drinks to start the Friday card.

6- Lookin at Blessing- Will probably be the choice after his last effort at Ellis Park. Be careful as he shows he can bounce after these strong efforts.

7- Homefortheweekend – another good hunch play as we start the weekend. Has been running well of late and has a win on this track.

Race 2

3-4-7

3- Bronze Charm – Big drop down for this filly, she is going to be chalk but you take your wins where you can get them.

4- It’s Cold in Dehere – this three year old has never run a bad race. Second off a layoff and now drops down to more manageable class. Cautious as trainer is only 9% second off lay-off.

7- Karate Hottie – she will round out the chalk trifecta. Notice the turnaround since adding blinkers and moving up the ladder.

Race 3

10-1-3

10- Algy- I think we’re swinging for the fences on this one but there’s some angles to like. She was Bette pretty heavily first out at Indiana ran a very average race first time out now runs to a distance that she should like better and trainer is a very strong 36% going from sprint to a route.

1- Goingtoagogo – definitely some value here in her second start. Took a leap of faith in running for a huge purse at Kentucky downs in first start. Now back to reality with a trainer that has a strong percentage going from maiden special weight to maiden-claiming.

3- Our Lizzy Lou- another that should get some value moving up in class off of fairly strong first start at Ellis Park.

Race 4

4-1-6

4- Folly – looks to be the class for this race as she drops down big time for this third race off the layoff.

1- Grats Road- has raced well at Churchhill in the past and looks to do the same today. Should come running in the lane and I’m looking for a repeat of the two May races at this track.

6- British Invader – not that crazy about this pic but if you can repeat one of the last three races she should be right there in the hunt. Trainer is zero for 16 with Layoffs.

Race 5

8-9-7

8- Her Kate- she shows a troubled line early June at Churchhill in a much tougher race. High percentage trainer makes a huge drop to get some of the investment back. Cohen usually rides for Bromberg but takes this one here.

9- Ash Blonde- speaking of Bromberg, this high percentage Trainor drops this girl off her claiming price hoping to gain some of the investment back.

7- Seemslikeoldtimes – I can’t figure out why she is 12 to 1 morning line after losing her first race by a nose in a higher class. There’s not much in here and this one could take it at around 5 to 1.

Race 6

5-3-1

5- Mine my Time- coming in off the layoff and I really like the last time this guy ran at this distance mid-May. The drop-down will help and should get 4-1.

3- Replete – if he can run back to that June 27 race at Churchill turn the page this one’s over but it’s still a horse race and that’s the only race that jumps off the page.

1- Sandbagger Al – this guy may be a sandbagger as he hasn’t raced in over a year but comes in I have some nice works in for a quality trainer.

Race 7

4-3-6

4- Line Judge- Has done very well since being taken over by trainer Miller. Comes back to Churchill where he has had great success at the track and at the distance.

3- Guest Suite- comes in off a bit of a layoff and has done well here in the past. I like the angle of consistent workouts and has faced tougher in the past.

6- Fact Finding- switch is back to the dirt a surface where he is shown success as being in the money 75% of the time. Some great workouts in the morning leading up to this race.

Race 8

7-2-4-8-10

7- Complexifier- raced very well at Saratoga in his last and if he comes back around the same speed figure he should win this one but at a low price.

2- Liam’s Legend- some things to like here including the September 4 Keeneland work out. Bread for this distance and should get a very good price off the rail.

4- Don Bourbon- I like the workouts and I like the trainer rider combination. And I will like the 15 to 1 odds.

Race 9

3-5-1

3- Tapit Wise – This is not a race that I’m thrilled with. Third off the layoff for this colt, should like the distance at lower odds then I would wish to take.

5- Seek the path- I like the race from July 6 at Ellis Park, The speed figure was not that great but I feel he would enjoy the added distance and has shown that he can win at the track.

1- Fireball shot- is 1 for 21 And will get lots of win money. Ultra consistent with the speed figures but just has a hard time winning.

Race 10

2-6-3-9-10

2- Another Day of Sun- I like the angle of Clement to Colebrook, yes I know that Clement is awesome but I have seen many that go to other barns and succeed. I like the price as well.

6- Miss Bigly- here is a girl that will like the added distance. Coming in from California will race off some nice workouts. If she doesn’t stay too far back she could win this my worry is she’ll wait too long.

3- Champagne diet – don’t throw this girl out because of her morning line odds. Those are two quality races and should do very well at this distance.

Good Luck, pick your spots and giddy up.
