Tampa Bay Downs Racing Analysis — Sunday, February 17, 2019, by Jimmy Moore

Race 1

(6) Shacklefords Storm – The opener seems to have a decent amount of speed, especially if the 9yr old I’m in a Hurry hasn’t lost too much of his early kick and can go out with the favorite. Shack should be able to sit just right of the leaders and has a couple nice recent starts after switching to Douaihy. He does try hard when in contention with 6 total victories, one of those coming here at Tampa.

(3) Evolution – Seems to be the horse to beat in this race off the victory in the last where he took a drop and won easily. That race was on the slop however where he is  3 for 5 lifetime, he was also loose on an easy lead and should have some more company up front today. Looks like he has lost a step since leaving Tampa last spring with a 3 month gap of racing during the summer. In what looks to be a competitive race I just want someone else on top besides the favorite.

(1) Jersey Street – Has been a very consistent runner of late and takes a little drop today, won an 8k here 3 back.

Race 2

(5) Dog Soldier – Will be a short price but I don’t think there is another challenger for the lead, looks just a little faster than the others here and also like the track with 5 of his lifetime 8 wins coming here.

(1) Darwish – Has the look of an improving horse, was right on the lead in a couple of suicide paces going 7f recently and didn’t have enough to finish. Had an awkward start and was bumped coming out of the gate in the last and was at the back of the pack, with a better start today should be much closer to the lead.

(3) Wild Wigglin Jack – Gets the cutback to 6f which has been his best distance, loves the Tampa track with all 3 of his victories coming here, also get back in for a tag today.

Race 3

(1) Phyllis Driller – I believe the speed figures on her last 2 races are a little deceiving and could have been higher, 2 back although she was able to get an easy lead and perfect trip she was well geared down within final 1/16th and jogged to the line. In the last she stumbled out the gate, regained her balance then was bumped hard losing any position. The jockey did not persevere with her down the stretch and once again just jogged to the line. I like her changes today at a decent price.

(5) Poppy’s Jewel – Has shown some speed, today gets the cutback and surface switch, barn is 7/14 last 30 days at Tampa.

(2) Shimmyshimmy Shake – Gets a needed drop in class and picks up hot riding jock.

Race 4

(8) Prequalified – Picks up favoritism in this race mainly due to default. Has been competitive at this level and has ran into a weaker group here.

(4) Diamond Luckie – Been close a couple times but couldn’t quite get the win after 23 tries, has hit the board 9 times.

(2) Cap Gun – One paced type of runner might be one of the few still trying as they turn for home.

Race 5

(2) Street Rally – A little overmatched in debut at Keeneland, steady work tab for return after 3 month layoff and the price tag gets cut in half.

(6) Judith Runs Too – Broke a tad slow then seemed to take a little while to get into stride, was doing her best running late, extra distance and drop in class should help today.

(4) Ms. Genuine – Horrible start in debut but not her fault, the horse to her inside broke outward taking Ms. Genuine along also, could get a piece with a little better luck today from the gate.

Race 6

(4) Penny Rose – Tries again to get back to the turf after 3 straight rained off, hasn’t shown enough speed to stay close enough to content on dirt, gets a drop back to claiming ranks today.

(6) Domestic Violet – In a confusing field to me I will give this one a shot to hit the board, first try on turf and has shown some speed, might just send her to the front here and hope for the best

(1) Shes Too Expensive – In a race that looks like there could be some chaos let’s throw this one in the mix at 20/1, didn’t show much in debut but the poor start didn’t help, now gets surface switch and stretch out.

Race 7

(3) Scoreswhenhewants – Just lost all momentum when steadied hard on the turn, nice work here on the 8th, stretches out today and should be near lead.

(1) Camgo – Half to 374K earner Sleepless Knight, beaten favorite in both starts so far, 3 of the 4 to race back out of that last race ran lower beyers next out, so not sure how good that race was. Picks up hot jockey and stretches out.

(8) Desert Spring – Lots of changes here, first lasix, first time gelding and surface switch back to dirt.

Race 8

(2) New Found Treasure – Improving filly gets a better post today, by productive turf sire Treasure Beach. Might inherit the lead in a race that has little speed.

(1) Retro Street – Takes on winners after getting the job done in her 9th try, has closed well in several of her races, should get a nice ground saving trip from inside post.

(3) Straight Madness – Takes a drop and gets back to a more realistic level.

Race 9

(6) What’s Her Secret – Has been on 3 different surfaces in last 3 races, now entered for a dirt race for the first time. In a tricky competitive race should be a decent price.

(2) Mrs. Met – O’Connell seems to have this one going in the right direction, will be 3rd time out after the trainer change and coming off of maiden win.

(8) Nelo Margarita – Deep closer that always leaves herself a little too much work to do down the stretch, gets another piece today.

Race 10

(6) Soul of the Hero – Sticks to the same level after a nice rally to finish second in last, should improve 2nd time out with Bennett. Both turf tries were disaster but looks like there were excuses for both.

(5) I Have Hope – Getting back to preferred surface and dropping back into claiming ranks
(4) Solid – If he runs his best will be tough to beat here, just not sure he will and will be a short price, gets another trainer switch today.
