Stakes Preview: G1 Madison, by Andrew Rdesinski

  1. Diamond Crazy- Hernandez Jr./ Stewart
    1. Diamond Crazy has only beaten ALW company and steps up a lot today for this Grade 1. She has only ran at the 7 Furlong distance once in which she finished 3rd against weaker and was coming off of a 3 month layoff. She tends to close in each race and seems to be better than what she has been facing. Is she good enough to win a Grade 1 especially against this field, probably not. Will look elsewhere but she is in form.
  2. Wildwood’s Beauty- Rocco Jr./ Becker
    1. Wildwood’s Beauty is a little classier than Diamond Crazy but still is a 20/1 shot in this field. She seems to like 2nd more than winning and only wins against restricted companies. Rocco Jr. gets the mount here which is not the usual set of riders for her. She has yet to face a Grade 1 company and she struggles against weaker.
  3. Sally’s Curlin- Talamo/Romans
    1. Sally’s Curlin runs today for fellow Daily Gallop contributor CJ thoroughbreds. Talamo gets the mount today instead of Prado who rode here to victory in a Grade 3 last time out. She looks strong and in form today and should be okay with the step up in class. I will be using her and hoping she can circle the field today.
  4. Princess Causeway- Leparoux/ Wilkes
    1. Princess Causeway is 1 for 1 at Keenland and gets Leparoux today instead of Landeros. She didn’t fire in the Winning Colors but that race was a salty field. 3rd race off the layoff should benefit her and she should be more fit today. At 15/1 and with her closing abilities I think she will be good to use underneath in exotics.
  5. Guarna- Ortiz/Brown
    1. Guarna is super tough here and shows she still has talent going into her 4yo season. This is only her 2nd start since September where she lost to Street Band in the Cotillion at Parx. I think she is the horse to beat and will be on the lead or close to it. Class of the field as well.
  6. Unique Factor- Prat/Miller
    1. Unique Factor to me is still better on turf rather than dirt to me. Prat ships in and rides for Miller which is 100% a good angle. I think she will sit right off the pace and will be benefiting from a possible speed duel. She isn’t classy enough to be on top for me but she looks sneaky here.
  7. Mia Mischief- Santana Jr./ Asmussen
    1. Mia Mischief will be sent early by Santana Jr. I think she has class but not as a 5yo. She seems to just not be as impressive in this campaign. At 3/1 I wouldn’t use it on top but I think she will 100% be tough in this spot. I just don’t see her winning.
  8. Bell’s The One- Lanerie/ Pessin
    1. Bell’s the One just won the Winning Colors last time out in which half this field is also coming out of. Lanerie stays aboard and seems to get the most out of her. She will be closing but can sit closer if needed. She loves 7F and gets it again today. Must use underneath or on top, both of which I can totally understand.
  9. Amy’s Challenge- Rosario/ Robertson
    1. Amy’s Challenge is not super classy but gets Rosario today which is a huge upgrade in jockey from Alex Canchari. She will be sent and probably will get the lead or press Guarna early on. She has yet to win this year against a lot weaker which is a huge negative to me.
