Oaklawn Park Racing Analysis- Thursday, April 4 2019- By Stewart Winograd

Oaklawn selections 4/4/19
1st: 8-5-7

Preacher Time has been against the grain of the track in all three of his Oaklawn starts this year.  Should have smooth trip from the outside post.

Dos Cuernos has been running in open company and drops into a restricted race.  The last time he was in a restricted race he won.

Cash for the Soul figures to be the early leader and would be a contender if the track is playing kindly to speed.

2nd: 8-9-1.

Neapolitan is rounding into form in his fourth start after a layoff.  His recent figures are below many of the others, but he’s on the improve and the others seem unlikely to duplicate their best efforts.

Jail House is one of those horses.  He has just one 3 furlong workout in the past two months, which is not Asmussen’s style.

Out of Hydeing is a speed on the rail contender if the track is playing to speed.

3rd: 6-1-3

Quite a Secret got some action at the windows in her debut, then broke slowly.  Trainer Forster is winless at the meet but has five seconds and is due for a break.

First-time starter Gotta Fly has some sharp workouts.  The experienced horses are nothing special for the level.

Carissa Crismas had pp 1 in her debut which is a difficult post for first-time starters to overcome if they don’t break sharply.

4th: 3-4-6

Mostly Sunny showed good speed last time and fits the conditions, which allow multiple winners as long as their most recent win was earlier than last October.

Iza Innocent drops in class for icy connections.  His success has been on turf but he may close well today sprinting.

Munyak raced on a dull rail last time and could wake up in his first start for Broberg.

5th: 4-5-1A

Holiday Mischief is a hard-knocking 9 year old popular at the claim box.  Both Villafranco and Diodoro lost him then claimed him back, a vote of confidence.  The 6-1 morning line looks overly generous.

Coastal Highway should be running late in a race in which most of the horses want the lead.

Capital Letters was a fire sale last out but has sharp workouts for his new connections.

6th: no opinion

7th: 2-8-1

Memphisinmay runs his best races on the lead.  Hasn’t been able to get close to the early lead in recent tries but catches a slow-footed field today.

Curlin Road is just a shell of the horse that finished fourth to Collected in the Pacific Classic two years ago.  His back class will lead to a low price on the board today while not that relevant to the results, but his last race does make him a contender.

Bode’s Maker gets the rail and usually runs his race.

8th: 7-2-3

Soaring Bird should be forwardly placed and finish strongly.  He’s not as sexy as the others but is probably faster.

Absolutely Aiden won easily at Saratoga, then went on the shelf for eight months.  I’m suspicious of horses that have a long layoff immediately following a win.

Minecraft Maniac raced wide and gets a jockey upgrade to Canchari.

9th: 8-2-3
Dutch Treat was overmatched last out against males with multiple wins.  Fits better with these if she can get up in time sprinting.

Spunky Town is a big price for the likely speed-on-the-rail entrant.

Ordained Kiss ran well versus similar at 30-1 last time and could contend again
