Monmouth Park Racing Analysis — Saturday, July 4, 2020, by Jeff Byrnes

Race 1: Maiden Special Weight $47,500 (Six Furlongs)
Picks: 7-3-1

(#7) Sagamore Mischief: Three seconds in his last four starts, he has been consistently knocking on the door to win. He has the most experience of any horse in the field. Good gate speed from outside post. Get top jockey Nik Juarez. 
(#3): Moonshine Now: Making first start in 11 months, this colt will be facing lighter competition than the first race he had, which he was 7th behind Belmont Stakes runner Tap it to Win. He ships to Monmouth and gets a good post and lasix for the first time. Christophe Clement is 19% shipping. 
(#1): Point Driven: First time with trainer Micheal Trombetta, he ships up from Maryland and gets the rail post. Trombetta is 22% with horses first time in the barn. From the rail, he could get a ground saving trip and come on late. 


Race 2: Maiden Special Weight $47,500 (4 1/2 furlongs)
 Picks: 1-3-6

(#1) Pickin’ Time: Inside post, short distance, gets Paco Lopez in the saddle. Trainer Kelly Breen is 17% with debut maidens. Posted fast workouts four straight weeks. Sitting on go. 
(#3) The Zip Factor: Only horse in the field with experience. Gets middle post and switches to dirt today. Also gets blinkers for the first time. Trainer is 19% with blinkers first time and 20% going turf to dirt. 
(#6): Another Shot: Outside post and has has good works coming in. Victor Carrasco will be aboard. will need a good trip but will have to navigate tight turn. 


Race 3: CLAIMING $20,000 – $18,000 5 1/2 furlongs 
Picks: 5-9-7

(#5) Terpeye: Making 2nd career start on the turf. Drops from $35,000 to $20,000 claiming. She has won at the $20,000 level before, with good speed in front of her, she will be flying late. Live longshot. 
(#9) Jo Jo’s Candy: Has a win at the distance, but hasn’t raced in four months. Trainer Jose Delgado is 22% when horses are 90 days away. Has plenty of sped so should be in front or close to the lead early. Speed can last. 
(#7) Irish Fix: Both career wins haver come at this distance. Will be up close to the leaders early. Trainer is 28% in sprints and has shown have to get horses back to the races in good form. 


Race 4: MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT $59,375 6 Furlongs
Picks: 9-5-8

(#9): Dr. Doyle: Drops in NJ-Bred company after a few races against open company. Has good speed from far outside, best beyer numbers in the field. Trainer is 25% going maiden claiming to maiden races. The drop to state level company put him at the advantage. 
(#5): Pianzi: First start with trainer Cathal Lynch, he is 14% with horses first time in the barn. He shortens back to six furlongs after two disappointing two turn races. Returns to state level company, should fit with this group. 
(#8) Our Man Luke: Goes the shortest distance of his career today and could show change in tactics and show speed. Trainer is 11%going route to sprint.

 
Race 5: ALLOWANCE $47,500 1 1/16 (Turf)
 Picks: 5-8-9

(#5) Channel Surfer: Making his 3rd start in the U.S, Channel Surfer is coming off a close 3rd in last start. He will have pace to chase and has the fastest beyer numbers than any other horse in here. Trainer Mike Stidham is 20% 3rd time off the layoff. He has turned in good works over the Monmouth track and seems like this is a group he’ll like. 
(#8) Constitutional Pal: Comes in off maiden win at Gulfstream Park and ran to fastest beyer number of his career. This will be his 3rd start off the layoff where the trainer is 21%, he figures to only improve but faces winners for the first time. Increase in distance also cane give him more room for late run. 
(#9) Gravitas: Front end speed Gravitas has and can use it against this group. Went wire to wire in first start but got outrun next out. He ships to Monmouth Park where he can use the tight turns to his advantage. Trainer Jonathan Thomas is 24% in allowance races this year and has run fast in his two starts. 

Race 6: Maiden Special Weight $47,500 (4 1/2 furlongs)
Picks: 6-5-3

(#6): Tiz Ferguson: Ships in from Maryland, fast work a week ago. Trainer Cathal Lynch in 24% with 1st time starters. Has Good gate speed from his works. 
(#5) Sky Proposal: Sharp 3F drills two weeks in a row. Kelly Breen is 16% with 1st time starters. Paco Lopez in the saddle. 
(#3): Lost Lake: Trainer Graham Motion rarely sends two year olds to Monmouth, but this filly has been turning good works and can get good speed from three post. A bunch of four furlong works makes this filly live. 

Race 7: STARTER OPTIONAL CLAIMING $12,500 – $6,250, 1 mile and 70 yards
Picks: 2-4-5

(#2) Dangerfield: Has faced tougher competition and is spotted to probably his best company. Hr won at this condition three back at Oaklawn. Three of his four wins have come at this distance. Gets Paco Lopez in the saddle. Very dangerous. 
(#4) Three to Thirteen: Drops from $25,000 claiming to $12,500, has front end speed over a speed favoring track, Has a win over the track and fits with this group. 
(#5): Calculated Risker: Ships in from Belmont Park to a group where he belongs. He has a win in his only start at Monmouth Park. Ran a fast beyer last start at Churchill. Good trip and he’s a player. 

Race 8: WAIVER CLAIMING $25,000 – $20,000 1 1/16 (Turf)
Picks: 11-1-8

(#11): Idle Time: Comes in off a win in a $40,000 maiden claimer and drops in company against winners for first time. She got a hot pace last time and there is plenty of speed here to get a good run late. Ran an 87 beyer number last out and should be coming late. 
(#1) Christopher: Tries turf for the first time at a distance he should like. He gets the inside post and he’ll have to use speed to get to the front. Second start off the layoff and should be better here. 
(#8): Market Bubble: On the board in all three starts at Monmouth Park. This will be his first race since last October. Trainer is 20% with horses off long layoffs. Should fit with this group. 

Race 9: Spruce Fir Handicap. $75,000 6 Furlongs
Picks: 4-3-2

(#4): Liz’s Cable Girl: The defending winner of this race returns to Monmouth Park now trained by Tom Amoss. She is 6 for 10 lifetime at Monmouth Park. she has front end speed and will use it to try and wi again. Amoss is 23% with horses away more than 90 days. She will be tough again. 
(#3): Diamond Play: Has won three out of her last six starts, but all those came at longer distances than today. She will be up front with the leaders early on and if her speed figures hold, she’s dangerous. 
(#2): Achieving Glory: Both lifetime wins have come at Monmouth Park. She is making her first start in 2020. Trainer is 12% when more than 90 days away. She turned in a good six furlong drill last week and from the inside should get a good trip. 

Race 10: STARTER HANDICAP $16,000 1 mile (Turf)
Picks: 8-11-12

(#8): Jag: first or second in last three starts, this gelding has also hit the board in all five career starts at this distance. Has early speed and should be up with them early on. Jag is making his second start off the layoff, where his trainer is 22% off the layoff. Speed figures have climbed last three starts, big chance. 
(#11) Bobby G: Hit the board in six out of his last seven starts.Just missed by a nose last time and needed the extra distance. Fastest beyer of any horse coming from last start. Likes the turf, and should be ready.
(#12) Flowmotion: Five of his six career wins have come at the distance. Will need pace to have a chance. Coming in off long layoff, should get a good run. 

Race 11:MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT $59,375 6 furlongs 
Picks: 4-2-5

(#4) Morning Jackpot: Five starts, three on the boards finishes at Monmouth Park. Mid pack type of horse, should get a god pace and experience should come through. 
(#2): Crafty Don: Inside post and good gate drills for the debut. Sharp four furlong drills two weeks ago has him ready on debut. 
(#5): Chub on Da Run: Making first start in 11 months. Ran 3rd in last race, sat off leaders, but outrun. Now he has grown up and matured should be ready to go.


Race 12: WAIVER CLAIMING $7,500 – $6,500 6 Furlongs
Picks: 7-1-2

(#7) Let’s Rumble: Won against open company in two of last three starts, but drops down in much lower class and has a big class edge. Should be lone speed and set his own fractions. Will be a stunner if he loses. 
(#1): Cliffy: Drops to $7,500 company, gets the rail, and mid pack speed, if he can get the lead from he inside and set a moderate pace, he has a chance. 
(#2): Always Free: Only career win has come at Monmouth Park, gets blinkers for the first time, and gets the inside for a ground saving run. Good speed from he gate, if he can get to the lead, he’ll be tough go catch.
