Monmouth Park Racing Analysis — Friday, August 14, 2020, by Jeff Byrnes

Friday evening racing at the Jersey Shore!

Race 1:  MAIDEN CLAIMING $40,000 – $30,000
One Mile and Seventy Yards
Picks: 2-1-7
(#2) Invaluable: Drops from $50,000 to the $40,000 level and drops to a distance that she likes. Only on the board finish came at this distance. Gets leading rider Paco Lopez for the first time. Should get a good pace to chase and should be coming late.

(#1): Sacred Union: Drops to a distance and surface she’s bred to run on and gets a short wait around from the rail. Joe Bravo jumps aboard for a barn that’s going good. Can use speed and be close to the lead.

(#7): Onethingoranother: Both on the board finishes came at this track. Last start she stumbled and lost all chance. Trainer is 33% with horses second off the layoff. Jockey Ferrin Peterson is on a roll at Monmouth. In for upset chance.
Race 2: CLAIMING $12,500 – $10,500 One Mile (Turf)
Picks: 8-1-2
(#8): Painted Image: Last time she dueled on the lead and gave way, this time she should have a good speed presence up front and should be alone on top. She won wire to wire four starts back and has hit the board in five of last seven starts. She drops to the $12,500 level where she has had success.

(#1): Itsgottabemyway: Battled gamely and just missed in last start. She has run well over the Monmouth Park track and gets the short way around today. Jorge Vargas is starting to heat up at the meet and has another live one.

(#2): Animauxselle: Won on the turf in her last race and reunites with Jose Ferrer. Trainer Micheal Dini is having a great meet so far and brings another live runner. She has among the fastest beyers in the field. Will be tough.

Race 3: MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT $59,375 5 1/2 Furlongs
Picks: 8-1-4
(#8): No Cents: Ships up from Laurel Park and gets the outside post. Has shown good works in the mornings and trainer Cathal Lynch has done really well with two year olds so far. Look for him to go quick early on.

(#1): Taffy Candy: Posted a strong four furlong drill last week From the one post, she should be forwardly placed early on. She will take the short way to win.

(#4): Bronx Cherie: Good works coming in. Trainer Chuck Spina is off to fast start at the meet, a fast pace means she will be coming late.

Race 4: CLAIMING $20,000 – $18,000 One Mile (Turf)
Picks: 5-2-6

(#5): Star Flare: Drops out of state bred stakes company for a much lower tag. She does all her best running at Monmouth Park. The drop to the $20,000 level helps her. She has speed and also is a mid pack stalker. Both career victories came at this track.

(#2): Miss Bob: Back on turf, around two turns, and gets the leading rider aboard. Both career wins have come at Monmouth Park. She will be close early on and come flying late.

(#6): Terpeye: Three straight third place finishes and each had a sharp closing kick, now back around two turns, she should be more closer to the pace. She has top beyers of any one in the field. She will be in the right spot to come on late.

Race 5: WAIVER CLAIMING $5,000 1 1 /16 (Dirt)
Picks: 9-6-1
(#9): Grimgrinnin’ Ghost: Was a sharp winner last time out at Penn National. Went to the lead and never looked back. Wayne Potts is starting to heat up at the meet and Ferrin Peterson is aboard for the first time. Expect her to use her speed from the outside to try and steal this race.

(#6): Vincento: Was a god second at this level last time out. Trainer Jose Delgado is 20% with horses second time in the barn. Got to have a good pace to chade and will be coming from mid pack late.

(#1): Zitman: In the top 4 in four straight races. Has either won or hit the board in four of six starts at the distance. From the inside he can get a good spot to save ground and fly home.

Race 6: CLAIMING $25,000 – $20,000 1 1/16 (Turf)
Picks: 4-8-5
(#4): Life on the Edge: Was a runaway winner last time out and comes back and should get the lead again. The leading rider and trainer reunite and get this filly back to a distance she likes and back on a surface she is bred for. Trainer is 23$ with last out winners, and she will be tough again.

(#8): Giveitsomewellie: Won at the $16,000 level last timeout and jumps to $20,000 level today. She has speed but can also sit right off the pace. Wayne Potts ships in and should be up close early on, will be coming late. Has pedigree to handle distance.

(#5): Stoney’s Monkey: Should get a good pace to chase and get a good position down the backstretch. Won at this level three starts back and has run well over the Monmouth grass. Good trip could give her a chance.
