Laurel Park Racing Analysis — Friday, July 17, 2020, by Tom Stoner

After last weeks debacle I shaved my head so this crazy track doesn’t get me to pull my hair out of my head this week.
Best Bet  Race 7 #1 Belmont Ride
Price Play  Race 5 #5 More Abundance

Race 1  10-9-7

#10 Paisley Singing has beaten much better on the dirt and has a ton of speed. Avery Whisman gets the leg up today and he’s been on her for both of her wins so he knows her well. Look for her to fly out of the gate from her outside post and hopefully not look back. #9 Hendaya drops in class and ships in from Charles Town for trainer Crystal Pickett who doesn’t ship her horses much so when she does you need to take note.

Race 2  7-4-3

#7 Lady Rozina drops back to the level and distance where she won two start back. Completely throw out that turf race last time out. Avery Whisman returns to ride her. He was on her in her last victory and she’s 5 for 6 in the money at Laurel, which come give Avery the early double. #4 Cash Register showed speed in her last start tiring late. This was her first start in a couple of months and she’s had two solid works since that race so I’m sure she’ll be more fit and the cut back to 6F has to help.

Race 3  6-10-9

#6 Snow Job ships in from Gulfstream Park and drop to maiden claiming ranks after a dull debut in a MSW. Sarah Nagle is 15% with her shippers and I think this big drop in class puts this guy in the winners circle. #10 Chauffer ran a solid second last time out at this level at 6F. The added distance shouldn’t be an issue and his speed figures have been increasing lately.

Race 4  4-2-7

#4 Honor Run showed speed and faded late last time out which was his first start in a year. He certainly has room for improvement after that effort and he did break his maiden at this distance. #2 Gone Home failed as the favorite last time out at this distance and level. He has speed but 1-18 with 7 seconds?? Just can’t put this guy on top, i’ll make him beat me.

Race 5  5-8-1

#5 More Abundance has not raced since November and only has one published work in the past few months for owner trainer Suzanne Dempsey. Victor Rosales gets back aboard here and the last 2 times he’s been aboard he’s got one win and a second at higher levels. Sneaky shot to light up the board. #8 Battlebus is 4 for 5 at Laurel and 4 for 8 at this distance including a win last time out. He’s been freshened for this race and must be respected.

Race 6  4-11-5

#4 Lady Fox comes into this race 3rd off the lay off for trainer Gary Capuano who’s a solid 20% with these types of runners. This is also a drop in class for this filly an it’s her lowest level in almost a year. The inside post position should also help her chances. #11 Mayan Queen just missed last time out at a higher level which was her first race since January so she should certainly should improve. She also get blinkers today and a weight break with bug boy Charlie Marquez.

Race 7  1-2-3

#1 Belmont Ride takes a slight class drop for this start after a 6 week lay off. He’s beaten much better in his career here last April and he’s run well fresh before, top pick in a not so great field. #2 Ekati Wildcat ships in from Parx for Jeffery Englehart who’s 18% with his shippers. He’s faced and beaten better in his career so this level should be in his wheel house.

Race 8  6-10-3

#6 Fiya broke his maiden last time out in wire to wire fashion by 5 lengths going six furlongs. He’s now cutting back a half a furlong ad i think he can go wire to wire again here today. #10 Girls Love Me tries turf for the first time in his career but he’s never really run a bad race. He was over matched in the 150K Tremont 2 years ago. Lightly raced for sure and his last was his first race in almost 2 years but it was a good effort. Must respect.

Race 9  4-6-2

#4 My Friends Beer finished an even 5th last time out in his first start since getting clobbered in the Arkansas Derby in early May. He’s ran very well against better so i feel this class level is right up his alley. #6 Ready and Rich comes into this race third off the lay off for trainer Lacey Gaudet who’s 12% with these type of runners. He’s also faced better at Churchill and Keeneland plus a 4F in 47 second work July 8th makes me think this guy may be sitting on a big race.

Race 10  4-3-5

#4 Alleria broke her maiden at this distance 2 starts back in October in wire to wire fashion. Completely throw out that last race in the mud. she 4 for 4 in the money at Laurel and 5 for 6 in the money on the turf so she should be right there in the end. #3 Awesome Jazz is third off the lay off for trainer Edwin Merryman who’s 2 for 4 with these types of runners. She made a nice closing move last race and the added distance may help her chances today.

Good Luck
