Gulfstream Saturday – thedailygallop@gmail.com – Gmail
Thanks for checking out today’s analysis. Aside from this weekly article I offer daily free full card picks for Gulfstream Park and Belmont Park as well as spot plays from other tracks. Be sure to give me a Twitter follow on @mhjpicks. Saturday’s Gulfstream Park card offers us 10 puzzles to solve. Let’s get some winners! Race 1 Today’s opener is a 20-25k maiden claiming race for fillies and mares going 1 mile in the dirt after being scheduled for turf. #4 Miss Flying Sun is adding blinkers after two mediocre starts which is a 20% move for McPeek. The drop in class will also help this one improve against a weak and open field. #11 Inedatequilahammered out some nice pace in her debut for Maker in the slip and looks to rebound that into a nice effort today. This horse probably wants turf but last effort on dirt is worthy of a play here. #8 Madame Moon ran in the same race as #11 last out and was claimed for 16k by Barbosa two starts back after being a 330k auction purchase. Let’s see if Barbosa can bring out the talent in this one in her second start with him (17%). 4-11-8 Race 2 Back to back maiden claiming races, this time for 40-50k two year old claimers going 4.5f on the dirt. Not much to go off of here. #1 Sennebec Summer is, I think anyway, the first out of Brody’s Cause to race. Brody’s Cause won a couple grade one races including the G1 Keeneland Futurity. Let’s see if he can throw out some runners in his style. Weaver is 20% with 2 year olds, so she should be ready to fire. #5 Silver Package is out with Jaramillo on the mount and trained by Ralph Nicks who is 21% with two year olds. #3 Beauty Queen comes from the Carlos David barn which is running well this year and is 18% with 2 year olds. Cristian Torres is likely to push this one from the gate. 1-5-3 Race 3 The third race is a 12.5k claimer for four year olds and upward going six furlongs on the dirt. Paco Lopez could have a nice day today, including #4 Combination who is running fantastic and has shown a lot more speed than the rest of this group. Guessing he will be claimed again in this race as he has been in his last few. Will be around 1/2 on the board. #1 Whyareyouawesome is on a quick turnaround and has been falling off but the class relief could help. #5 Native Hawk likes to run off the pace and should have something left for a late run should they favorite falter here. 4-1-5 Race 4 Today’s fourth race is a 30k claimer for fillies and mares set for a mile on the turf. Paco should be able to close out the double here from the outside post on #12 Augusta Moon who is dropping class off the win last out. There may be some who push and tire this one out which would set it up for #2 Codrington who is a strong late runner. #5 Big Tina will be a nice price and should be able to make the lead and has the potential (though unlikely) to wire the field. 12-2-5 Race 5 10k Maiden claimers going 5.5 on the dirt close the early P5 and start the Rainbow 6 sequence. #1 Feather’s Secret drops down after a tough trip last out. Nicks is 19% with such drops. Jaramillo should be able to use the rail to his advantage in this sprint. #3 Shez Stuck Up is on a quick turnaround but second off the layoff and positioned in a spot she can get her picture taken. Rivelli is 34% with beaten favorites. #9 Honest Gal has been kept honest and run second 5 times in her career. Trejos has shown the ability to rise a horse well on the lead and gets the call again here. 1-3-9 Race 6 The Soldier’s Dancer Stakes is a non-1 graded 1 1/16 mile turf route for Florida bred three year olds and upward. #5 Muggsamatic has a new home (one where presumably he will race with out enhancements) and gets his first start since that transfer. He has the speed and back class, but there is a question of lasting power. #3 Galleon Mast is another live mount for Lopez, who has led this one to victory before, coming off a G2 race where he did not embarrass himself. Fawkes is 18% in non-graded stakes. #2 Class and Cash has strong early speed and comes off a brief layoff (15% for Cibelli). Depending on pace could be a major factor. 5-3-2 Race 7 The seventh is a 25k optional claimer going 6.5f on the dirt. #2 Fortune Cookie runs for Maker and has Paco in the saddle. He won last out and drops (33%) into this group who should create enough pace to suit this presser. #5 Gump might have something to say about that and will be pushing the pace early. Alvarado is 16% with new starters to his barn. #1 Youcantcatchcurlin couldn’t be caught last out in a sloppy maiden victory. He has the breeding and showed the speed to surprise the group here today. 2-5-1 Race 8 The Ginger Punch Stakes is a non-graded 1 1/17 mile turf route for Florida bred fillies and mares. #3 Kelsey’s Cross is the likely favorite for Biancone and Panici. Gets some class relief after trying five graded stakes which should result in an improvement. #6 Bellera makes the move to grass for Pletcher, who is 15% with first time turf starters. She has several quality races including a G3 Victory. If she takes to the turf, watch out! #11 Crown and Sugar has won 6 of 14 on the turf, mostly at Tampa Bay including a non graded win. Rodriguez is 33% in non graded stakes. Should have some odds if you are looking for a live longshot. 3-6-11 Race 9 The third and final non-graded stakes of the day is the Game Face Stakes, a 6.5f sprint for fillies and mares. #6 Vast looks to turn the tables on #5 Boerne. Vast is second off for Mott (17%) and will need a cleaner trip than usual to get it done against the likely favorite. Boerne is off three impressive wins in a row and might continue today in her first stakes race. #2 We Miss Susie is off a nice win against a couple of next out winners and should not be ignored in this sprint with Lopez back aboard. 6-5-2 Race 10 Today’s finale is a $6,250 claiming race set for 6.5f on the dirt. #6 Poppy’s Destiny could end today’s card with a nice price. He is an underachieving 300k purchase who has not been the same since debut in 2018 but is working back into some form. #9 Vita Dolce comes back quick off the last race which was washed off turf. Sano saw enough to keep him on dirt while dropping in class (14%). #2 Moon Pistol is first off the claim for Navarro (not that Navarro) who is 18% on the angle. The new barn helps and should get him to improve enough to be a player in the finale. 6-9-2 |
