Golden Gate Fields Racing Analysis — Saturday, March 14, 2020, by Warren Wilson

Top Choice Season Statistics:

83 selections – 27 wins (32.53%)     $2.00 Win bet ROI $2.47 (+23.5%)

Best Bet:

Race 1 – 12:45pm (PST) 4yr old and up Clm 4000B  1 mile All-Weather (Selections: 3-4)

Top Choice: (3) Journey to Run should get enough pace to run at in here.  He makes his second start off the layoff and has the most potent late kick of this group.  Couton does very well with closing types.

Backup: (4) The Ref doesn’t win often, but draws Amador apparently away from the top choice.  Not sure what to make of that, but this guy sure is consistent and ran well last out to a huge class dropper Speed Saver.

Race 2 – 1:15pm (PST) 4yr olds and up F&M Clm 4000n2L   5-1/2 furlongs All-Weather (Selections: 1-2)

Top Choice: (1) Tiz a Rule broke in the air last out when drawing the rail and also three back had another akward start when down inside.  If she overcomes her gate fears and gets going early she would seem primed to take these all the way. Like the change to Antongeorgi.  Will see if he holds the key to a turn around.  Live at a price.

Backup: (2) Secretly Paranoide had only one bad race in her last four outings and interestingly it was the one where she was down about 70 lbs lower than her normal weight (911 vs her norm around 980-990).  Pay attention to today’s weight metric. Will be in the picture if at the proper fighting weight.

Race 3 – 1:45pm (PST) 4yr old and up Clm 20000n2x   1 mile All-Weather (Selections: 5-2)

Top Choice: (5) Jimmy G has been super consistent since the claim by Truijillo.  Late closing style fits the profile for this trip.  Like him to upset at a mid range price.

Backup: (2) Unlawful Act ran a career best last out and could bounce today, but should he retain his form will be awfully tough to overhaul from slightly off the pace.

Race 4 – 2:15pm (PST) 3yr old fillies Clm 6250 or 4yr olds and Up F&M Clm 6250n3L 6 furlongs All-Weather (Selections:5-2)

Top Choice: (5) Pastorate finds a softer spot here after facing a tough group last out.  Sierra Sunrise (1st) and Diamondsnchampagne returned to run 1-2 last weekend for $8000n2x.  This non-winners of 3 lifetime spot looks pretty good.  She should be able to be up front perched outside of She’s in Luck early.  Race two back would crush this group.  Live.

Backup: (2) She’s in Luck cruised to victory last out opening up 3-1/2 at the wire.  This next spot up in price tag and condition seems perfect.  Chance to wire the field again.

Race 5 – 2:45pm (PST) 3yr old and up F&M MdnSpWt  1 mile All-Weather (Selections: 5-4)

Top Choice: (5) Early Riser makes her second start in the states for the Charles, Gordon, Badilla outfit who strike with these MSW import types on a regular basis.  Only missed Envy by a head last out, but should improve off the much needed effort this go around.  Strong play.

Backup: (4) Envy lines up next to her last out rival and really woke up last out on the stretch out.  Like where this one is headed formwise and she merits much respect in this field.

Race 6 – 3:15pm (PST) 4yr old and up F&M Str 50000  6 furlongs All-Weather (Selections: 2-6)

Top Choice: (2) Promote might complete a double for the Charles, Gordon, Badilla team here.  She exits a much stronger $40000 open claiming heat to meet the conditions here.  That second place effort last out is 6 points higher than par for this group.  Best Bet of the Day.

Backup: (6) You Wanna Ear Rip is steadily improving and last out was another strong effort.  Nice post draw outside and she’ll be showing up late.

Race 7 – 3:45pm (PST) 3yr old fillies MdnSpWt 6 furlongs All-Weather (Selections: 1-7)

Top Choice: (1) Pentewan is yet another from the Charles, Gordon, Badilla team that looks primed to score.  Note she ‘dwelt’ last out at Southwell in GB, but otherwise sports two strong 3rd place efforts on the all weather surface  at Newcastle. Another strong chance in what would be an epic pick three if all of the CGB team horses score.

Backup: (7) Diametric broke a step slow down inside for her first outing at SA and then steadied at the 3/8 pole.  Daughter of Munnings should be fast and Callaghan is 6/27 (22.2%) with MSW types at GG.  Nice price should be there for the taking.

Race 8 – 4:15pm (PST) 4yr old and up F&M  AOC 62500n2x   1 mile All-Weather (Selections: )

Top Choice: (5) Love and Peace has been facing much tougher at this same level down at SA.  Only previous all weather effort was a strong second beaten only a neck when facing French handicap level horses at Deauville.  Drysdale has historically down well here on the GG tapeta and Antongeorgi takes the call.  Big chance in a wide open event.

Backup: (6) Imperial Creed can run on whether the pace be fast or slow.  She was super impressive last out when opening up in the stretch and now cuts back after a bit of time off.  McCarthy should have her loaded here.

Race 9 – 4:45pm (PST) 4yr old and up F&M Alw 31000n1x   5-1/2 furlongs All-Weather (Selections: 11-7)

Top Choice: (11) Rebalation had a horrific trip last out when thundering home to miss by 1 length.  She finds herself drawn outside in the clear and should get a much improved run this time.  Her mom (Reba Is Tops) was quite a runner in these parts back in the day and this one looks to have inherited mom’s ability.  Live.

Backup: (7) Justalittleviolent could be any sort after that race last out.  She ran a sub 23 second final quarter mile by my calculations and simply inhaled that group.  No workouts since so not sure if that is a positive or if she is just recovering after the monster close.  Interesting nonetheless.
