Hoping everyone’s Pegasus Saturday was profitable, let’s get back to NOLA take some of the sting out of last week’s no-call by calling out a few winners. Pretty typical mix for the Sunday card – where turf races are looking most competitive with the big fields.
Race 1: 1-7-3
In a race where many are re-appearing out of the same last race – we will suggest a re-mixed finish. Think My Man Jax needed his last, saves ground with the rail draw, and there is a bit more pace to close into. Lascivious looks to sit the outside stalking trip and can be there at the finish again. I’m the Best I Know – perhaps the light bulb went off in last, comes in off maiden win – appropriate level.
Race 2: 4-3-1
Kraft’s Rate – stands out. Going back to turf start – Lanerie stays, times move right. Nice maintenance half mile work since last start. Wins. Bing’s d’Oro completes formful exacta – finished one place behind KR last two, todays makes it three times. She’s Our Star – rail trip, saves ground, up for 3rd.
Race 3: 4-6-7
Fostering Harmony – not often do you find a Stonestreet filly running for a nickel. (hello breeders…) Comes in off maiden win, should win right back after sitting off Fashion’s Touch flank. FT will try to speed pop this field, saves second. Sacred Storm intrigues. Stopped, then eased in last. Two works since, significant drop – suspect she’s well meant today.
Race 4: 10-6-3
Hero of the Hour has shown an affinity for the grass – either of his previous turf starts look good enough to take this. Question mark is the 6 month layoff – working steadily, with a couple of quick 3f. works. Gets outside stalking position. Maglio, obviously starting this firster by Medaglia D’Oro in a claimer speaks to there perhaps being issues. Steady work tab, top notch barn, all systems go. Non Regrette – takes the needed drop, has several races that should make him competitive.
Race 5: 7-1-8
In a race where 5 of the 8 come out of the same race, we are going with the new face, Fascilitator who comes in off a mini freshening. Works are steady with a couple of quick 5f. ones mixes in. Drops below the recent claim price to pick up the win. Twin Farms claimed out last by Amoss, has worked twice for the new barn, uses the rail draw to his advantage. Gold Label – moves outside – speed can be used a little more conservatively this time.
Race 6: 9-4-1
Wildscore hot barn, Murrill sticks, best last our on paper. Improves in 3rd off the layoff. Roar of the Lion – looks to be the most consistent check getter in the race. This will be second out off the mini-freshening. Tapit Wicked – takes a steep drop in class, gets back to what seems to be his preferred surface, saves ground from rail
Race 7: 10-9-2
Assuming Afleet Roger improves second time out and appreciates the drop. Got played (6-1) and ran pretty evenly in debut, wasn’t beaten too badly, more finish this time, takes this from off the pace. Jazz it Up takes them as far as he can, settles for 2nd again. Fair Shot improves second time out for Amoss and Graham combo.
Race 8: 4-3-1
Another maiden claimer, this one on grass, where we are jumping on Postimpressionist as opposed to the 4-time bridesmaid Carbonated. Think Post is well meant of the bench and gets first jump on Carbonated, who could easily take this. Antarctic uses the rail draw to his advantage, Graham sticks, 2nd out for Amoss – lots to like. Can’t fault Rich Tradition’s consistency, could also be there – tough race.
Race 9: 1-8-7
Ending the day with nickel claimers, let’s go out a winner – think Crooked as Can Be stalks from the rail, moves first, and hangs on for the win. A virtual repeat of the last. Captain Tyree consistent speed ratings, consistent finishes. Delaware Basin sort of steps up off the win, should be on the board.
