Mike has been an avid horse handicapper since he discovered the Daily Racing Form in his Econometrics and Forecasting Data class at Erskine College (SC) in 1992. He has worked as a field auditor, employee benefits consultant, martini bar owner, and is currently a business insurance broker in Columbia, SC. Since his 2009 thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, Mike has been an avid couch potato and horizontal horse handicapper. He loves the brothers Grimm, brothers in arms, The Brothers Karamazov, and the Avett Brothers. His fiancée is an equine pharmacist and she supports his love of horses and handicapping by driving eight hours to various horse tracks and reminding him not to hedge, therefore, he hits 3/4s, 4/5s and 5/6s on the regular.

Today’s card was handicapped with the same attention and analysis that I always devote to my Gallop contributions. However, because of my additional duties as a commissioner of the H2H League, I am not providing my usual amount of drivel on each race. Besides, brevity is the soul of wit.

Fade me.

Race One: 1:00 post – Claiming 25000 6 F 4YO&Up F&M

3-6-2-5

It’s all about first time Tom Amoss and I like his #3 Lady by Choice more than #6 Liz’s Cable Girl, but neither would surprise me.

Race Two: 1:34 post – MC 75000 5 F 2YO Fillies

9-7-10-1

Nine of the ten baby girls running today are making their debut. I am against Wesley Ward’s ML favorite #10 Sunny Isle Beach on principle alone. I’ll try Kobiskie’s #7 Decaf and Barkley’s #9 Ambitiously Placed.

Race Three: 2:06 post – Allowance 88000nc 1 3/8 Mile Turf 3YO&Up F&M

4-1-3-2

If you want to beat 4/5 ML favorite #4 Gentle Ruler, take a look at the entry, especially #1 Vexatious.

Race Four:  2:38 post – MC 10000 6 F 3YO&Up

11-12-1-3

Hancock’s first time gelding #12 Celtic Mischief interests me, but #11 Fantastry has been improving for McPeek.

Race Five: 3:10 post – MC 20000 6 F 3YO&Up

6-8-1-1

This is an uninspiring group leaving me on first time starter #6 Booyakasha. Norm Casse gets Gaffalione? I’ll bite.

Race Six: 3:42 post – Claiming 16000 1 1/16 Mile 4YO&Up

10-4-1-3

David vance gets #10 Altito back in his barn for his second start.

Race Seven: 4:14 post – MSW $79k 7 F 3YO&Up F&M

6-5-1-9

If she broke a little better in her last race, #6 Skinny Dip would have gotten her picture taken on 5/16/2020.

Race Eight: 4:46 post – Aristides $100K 6 F 4YO&Up

6-2-4-3

He could bounce off his last resounding win, but #6 Volatile has done nothing wrong so far for Steve Asmussen.

Race Nine: 5:18 post – Allowance 81000n1x 5 1/2 F Turf 3YO&Up

6-3-5-9

John McKee only has one mount on the afternoon and it’s #6 Johnny Unleashed. Very curious.

Race Ten: 5:50 post – Dogwood GIII 7 F 3YO Fillies

2-8-3-5

Ian Wilkes has figured out #2 Four Graces, but #8 Edgeway is on the come.

Race Eleven: 6:22 post – MSW $79K 1 1/8 Mile Turf 3YO&Up F&M

8-6-7-1

#8 Queen Medb gets Gaffalione back in the bike for trainer Brendan Walsh. This former Chad Brown filly is good enough against this field. Don’t be afraid to “Bet Mitch to get Rich” on the #6 Fate Factor.
