Fair Grounds Racing Analysis — Sunday, January 13, 2019, by Neil Petrocelli

Tough call on whether they will be on turf as of this writing.  Let’s hope the fields stay intact, will assume soft grass, and try to get some prices home.

Race 1:  5 – 4 – 6

War Treaty, based on purchase price a disappointment, but off the last seems to have found a competitive class, and should improve off that race as well.  The Asmussen/Santana combo is always a plus.  Basecamp closer last time if not for the trouble,  improves off the drop and brief freshening.   Storm the Bastille – interesting Euro bred from the first crop of Juddmonte’s super talented Kingman.  Should be formidable running for a tag first out.

Race 2:  2 – 6 – 3

With lots of speed signed on, especially on the rail and far outside, banking on Shang sitting, waiting and taking this from just off the pace.  Good figures, looks to continue moving forward. Calimambo, a consistent sort will pick u pieces late.  Brother Richie, also benefits from the contested pace, and benefits from Sutherland’s second time aboard.  Two nice works leading in to this….

Race 3:  11 – 1 – 3

Looking for marked improvement second time out from Noble Companion.  Top barn, consistent works off debut and dropping.  Mr. Sarcastic wheels back, same level off the claim by top barn.  Improves for new connections off the troubled trip when claimed.  Series of steady works coming in. A Man Called Boady top connections, turf races make him competitive here.

Race 4:  6 – 1 – 5

My Majestic Rose, picked up a few with nice finish in sprint debut.  Closed like she would appreciate more ground, as did Grandezza, coming out of the same race.  Top connections for each. Tasting the Stars, first out for ultra tough Stidham barn should be sharp off the recent 5f work.

Race 5:  8 – 1 – 4

Scarlet Flutter, looks to be stakes quality, makes first race back but has won sprinting in the past.  Been working every week for the last six, should have conditioning, should lay close. Good Move – always favored, burned bettors last two, comes in off bullet works, takes them as far as she can.    Unbridled Class gets points for consistency.  Salt Bae should be tough if this goes on main track.

Race 6:  3 – 2 – 5

Cosmic Code and Street Band each come out of the same race, with CC winning their battle, but losing the war.  Each has a good work since last, however, SB’s work says ‘go’ think CC is ridden more patiently this time and they cross the wire in the same order.  Martian may improve in return to dirt, maiden win a standout.

Race 7:  6 – 10 – 8

Armament going with a bit of a price, think the drop does it, has figures that would take this.  Vinyl never off the board on grass, will be a price based on class hike, which isn’t as big as it appears.  Will be sharper off last. Broth loads of trouble in his last, the drop into NW2L claiming moves him way forward.

Race 8:  8 – 4 – 6

Following Graham who stays aboard Boston Bob, off two good placings at the class.  Odds should be lower, but should still be a price.  Wiedenbachers Gent comes in off win with lesser, Graham leaves – but should still be formidable for new connections.  Finishlikeapro, ships in for top barn, consistent sort with good record over the track.
