Carryover Chatter: Indiana Grand pick 5, Friday, October 11, 2018 — by Ed Piluso

There’s a carryover in the Pick 5 at Indiana Grand on Friday October 12th starting with the opener of $46,946!!! Thus we here at The Daily Gallop would like to introduce our first edition of “Carryover Chatter” where we give you our plays for large carryovers throughout the country! Let’s start off a with nice hit here in Indiana! Here is the ticket:

R1: 6,7

R2: 4,6,7

R3: 5,8

R4: 2,3,5

R5: 4,5,10

Total Cost: $54

The first leg is interesting, we have a horse who’s facing winners for the first time and is a complete wildcard, I will side against. The favorite has been ITM in all 4 races this year and is a must use, the horse from the outside post is dropping from state-bred stakes company to state-bred allowance company and is cutting back in distance with a top rider up. The two horses breaking from the inside, and only other horses under 10/1 ML, we see a lightly raced gelding who has not done anything against winner, beatable 6/1 and quick toss. The horse at 3/1 from the inside post regular jockey for the last 4 races jumped off to one of our picks and his figures suggest he’s beatable.

The second leg we did some spreading, the inside 3 are throwaway’s, the 4 is ITM in his last 6 and is a must use on a drop. The 5 is a toss to me, at 5/2 ML there’s no reason to play him when he has only hit the board once in 5 races this year. I understand his massive drop but a drop like that is unsettling to me, toss. We then add in the two outside posts as no brainers.

The third leg to me only has 2 logical options and that’s who was picked here. If you’d like to cut your ticket in half feel free to remove one of the two. However to me I’d rather be safe in this scenario as there will be plenty of liquidity in the pool to ensure if you hit you get a nice payout.

The fourth leg is another maiden, however this one has a full 10 horses and took a bit of time to look over. Overall however our 3 picks are best from the figure standpoint, and coincidentally are all coming out of the same maiden at Kentucky Downs, all three ran great that day against much better competition. We would love to get the 3 home here at 8/1 ML which is outrageous to me as she gets a top rider up and looks primed to run here with this crew.

The final leg we see another 10 going into the gate so we will get prices. We use the 4 who’s been running consistently well over his last 4 races, all of which were at this level. The 5 is coming off a throwaway race at Churchill Downs, last time he ran here against state-bred company at this distance, he ran 2nd by a head. Finally our longshot in the final leg to get the big score, the 10. This guy won his lat race at this level for Indiana breds, that race was also at the distance over this track. His last race was a nightmare, steadied and never recovered. Today, a clean trip suggest he could be a gem at 10/1 ML with a jockey up who has ran well with him once before, that day he ran his best figure ever.

That’s my view on the Pick 5 carryover at Indiana Grand, if you’re playing our ticket or your own best of luck taking down the big carryover!
