Turfway Park Racing Analysis — Thursday, December 19, 2019, by Hunter Ulwelling

Race 1

1st #7 Gotsomemojo ran better last out at this level and seems to like the Turfway surface, which is something horses don’t always like.  Only lost by a length and a half last out.

2nd #9 Calm Pacific is going from the $10K level down to $5K which will help him out.  He hasn’t won in so long, but even with just a little class drop can be in better shape here.

3rd #4 Lizzy’s Lure ran a decent second place last out with Rogelio Miranda who is back aboard, and having a good season so far.  He’s one to watch on those longshots. This one looks good here.

Race 2

1st #2 Sugar Love has potential to be a nice horse.  Churchill last out was too tough race, but she had been running better prior to that, she has a new trainer also so we will see how that helps.

2nd #6 Gracely is coming from out east, where she ran good races and never lost by much.  I’m curious how she’ll like the synthetic but hoping the transition will work out for her.

3rd #7 Wolverette also comes from the east, ran at this level last out and hit the board.  Seeing them run her in a stakes the way they did makes me wonder if it hurt her confidence at all, but she’s in alright shape.

Race 3

1st #2 Morgan’s David is tempting on paper with the two wins in a row.  I liked those performances a lot, wish that Fadlovich was still aboard but she isn’t racing here that I know of.  I’m hoping she can keep heading in the right direction.

2nd #9 Putsarahon has been off for three and a half months since her win at Prairie Meadows.  Three third place finishes from four races here at Turfway, so hopefully can notch another third or better.

3rd #1 Prom Theme is an old gal (almost eleven) who’s still winning and hitting the board, most recent win is two back.  She looks good, but unbelievable she’s raced 108 times. That’s too much.

Race 4

1st #11 Kitten for Granny has been off since his win in August.  One win from eight starts here at Turfway, but it would be awesome to see him win off of the layoff.  I’m a little unsure about the jockey, but we will see.

2nd #3 Mister Pollard won two back, and is winless here but maybe that can change.  He can be inconsistent and all over the place in his races so I’m trying to be careful of that.

3rd #12 Keyed on Top looks okay in a field of horses that are hard to choose.  He’s yet to be on the board at Turfway, but has had some time off. Hoping he’ll be fresh or need an out to get fit.

Race 5

1st #12 Unforeseen looks pretty strong for Ian Wilkes in this spot.  This girl was a $150K purchase, and is improving. Her second place at Kentucky Downs was a spectacular effort.  By Carpe Diem.

2nd #6 She’s a Deal makes her second career start, first out was a second place losing by five and three quarters lengths at Churchill.  I’m fond of that effort, and hoping she’ll continue to improve here. She should be ready to go.

3rd #8 Enthroned tries the synthetic for the first time, has only raced on the turf before.  I’m curious to see if this will be a better change or not, and I’d love to see her as she gets more experienced because of the Empire Maker and Lemon Drop Kid pedigree she has.

Race 6

1st #5 Even Beat could win two in a row, loving that last win at Churchill, it was a tough allowance race, but she got the job done, and comes to an easier track with a little easier of a field.

2nd #8 Honey Parade is another nice filly, she’s young with seven starts.  Her last three races, two wins and a third, have been terrific efforts in solid races and I’m digging the way she looks in here.

3rd #6 Sugarsugarsugar was in a real tough spot last out and didn’t handle it the way the connections wanted her to, but it was such a step up in class it was hard.  Now back down to a softer spot.

Race 7

1st #4 Anna’s Fast was thrown to the wolves when shipped to England last out, ran 16th but only beaten by seven.  Blinkers come off, and quite the expensive purchase at $470K.  Expecting big things from this one, even off of a six-month layoff.

2nd #6 Joker on Jack is trained by Wesley Ward, who also trains Anna’s Fast.  Both are nice horses, this one has potential. Even though he finished fourth in that stakes at Woodbine this summer, it was an impressive effort, along his third last out at Churchill.

3rd #7 Toma Todo is lightly raced, with only one start, and a nice win at Churchill back at the end of May.  I’m sure he will need an out or two, but Mike Maker usually has them in pretty good shape upon returning.

Race 8

1st #1 Taranto comes down in class and moves tracks.  I like the looks of him on paper, and hoping that this race, (his fifteenth career start) can be the one he gets the win in.

2nd #12 Cauldron has a tough mission on the twelve hole, but hoping he can hit the board.  He’s yet to do so in his career, but this is the lowest he’s been in so I am hoping that will make a difference.

3rd #5 Oh Bene is the Dale Romans trainee who’s been around the lower levels for a while, but like almost everyone else hasn’t come down this low.  Maybe he will like the synthetic.
