It’s closing day. Let’s make it a profitable one. Kentucky racing moves to Keeneland next week with opening day on April 4th.
Race 1 – 6- Plain Tales is a 9 year old making his 67th career start. Thinking with the second last time and a few nice half mile drills leading up to that good effort, this guy may be rounding into top form. We’ll give him the nod in the opener. 3- Lizzy’s Lure ran a Beyer speed figure last time that wins this race by open lengths. But we’re not sure this one will duplicate that number today. Knocking at the door in the tri the last three races. 8- Barry’s Swing might have needed that race off the long layoff on March 14th. Should sit a nice outside pressing trip from the 8 hole under forward rider Perry Ouzts.
Race 2 – 3- Sunday Cloths had an awkward start and was never involved last time out off that long layoff. We see this one being back in 8 days later as a sign that whatever issue caused that performance has been resolved. We’ll trust the Maker barn to have this one ready to go today for his big owner Ken Ramsey. 5- Cause to Action ships up from Oaklawn and the Fair Grounds. We need this one to lay back and make one late closing run to have a shot at winning. 6- All Hands On Deck has been solid in his last two races breaking his maiden two back and following that up with a good second first time versus winners. Machado hops off onto the 7- Zapper who was an open length maiden winner last time but two back was behind ‘Deck.
Race 3 – Wide open race. 7- Court’s Ruling has fired off a pair of seconds in his last two sprint races at this condition. Outside post should help this one stay in the clear and not have to slow down momentum ever. 1- Run Run has been on the board at this condition five times throughout the meet without breaking through. 0-8 over the Turfway poly. Certainly can win, but at a short price we advise looking to take a shot elsewhere. 3- Barrister Jim will look to set the pace and hang one. Thinking this one will hang around underneath with the ten pound weight break from bug rider Tormey. Don’t leave 5- Magical Connection off your early multi race bets.
Race 4 – Brother Cesare has been impressive in his last two against claiming company. Sent out by the red hot Contreras barn. Tactical speed to take the lead or track. Outside draw. Competitive speed figures. All this adds up to our day’s best bet. 4- Beach Hut will try to run down the top choice off a projected mid pack track trip. Toss the last as this one prefers one turn poly races over two turn. 6- Snow Leopard will try to run down the top pick late. Excuse at the start in the last. That four back starter race under today’s jock Franklin if repeated puts him close with these.
Race 5 – Cadillac Kitten drops in claiming price by half in his first start versus winners. Aggressively spotted for high winning connections of Maker, Ramsey, and Machado. 6- Tizabouttime just missed last time at this level. Repeat of last puts him close today. 1- Swami Genius may have a say underneath stretching out in distance.
Race 6 – 7- Dhafeera is another likely winner as a short price logical winner. Positional speed. Competitive speed figures. Nice outside draw. Top rider Machado in the irons. Only question mark is can this one carry that speed an extra 1/16 of a mile going the 6.5 furlongs. 8- Carolina Reaper projects to follow just outside the top pick. With the 5 length score going the mile this one will try to wear down the top pick late. 5- Lucky Me Lucky You is capable of hitting the board versus this group. Consistent sort is 4 of 5 in the tri for this meet. We think it will be 5 of 6 on the board finishes for this one’s Turfway 2018-2019 meet.
Race 7 – Group of nine signed on for this closing day featured maiden special weight race. We’re chalking out again in the feature. 5- Speight’s Comete was cut down late by descent horse Yield last time. Pair of nose second place finishes in the last two at this level. Finally breaks through for the Linda Rice barn. 4- Elegant de Domino has some bullet breezes at the Thorobred Training Center in Lexington along with a solid half mile local breeze on the 18th. Work tab on paper seems to suggest this one should have enough foundation and speed to be a part of the featured race tri. 1- The Ash Factor is first time starter by The Factor. Descent work tab at High Point Training Center in La Grange, KY. Like the 10-1 price and this one could be sneaky.
Race 8 – 5- Dream Fever was a nice winner last time on the drop in class to $5,000 company. We like the confidence the Contreras barn shows in raising this one in class off that win. 9- Rulelikecleopatra loves the Turfway Poly. 11 for 21 lifetime. Winner of three of her last four including last time at this level at 7-5 odds. 2- Looktheotherway projects to settle towards the rearish part of the field early, hope for a hot pace to develop (which in our opinion should happen) and make one late run. That two back second at this level and distance last time puts her there today. Not sure what to make of the barn change and that’s the reason we’ve faded to third, but nonetheless a win candidate for sure in a highly competitive meet finale.
Thanks for reading. Hope your Turfway meet was enjoyable and profitable. Cheers to keeping the winners rolling at Keeneland!
