Tampa Bay Downs Racing Analysis — Sunday, March 17, 2019, by Jimmy Moore

Race 1

(7) The Great Loudini – Takes a 50% drop in claiming price, has a tight range of speed figure numbers on turf or dirt, only 2 victories have been on dirt. Will be coming from off the pace

(1) Call Me Handsome – Appears he will be loose on an easy lead with this group, speed figures are a little light compared several others so just not sure he is good enough to hold on down the stretch.

(6) Unbridled Piper – Only 6/33 starts have been on dirt, form on dirt is somewhat inconsistent but one of his better races but him right in the mix.

Race 2

(1) Shanghai Shuffle – Sold for 275 at Keeneland Auction and appears to be an improving 4 year old filly, should get a nice trip sitting just off the speed of Exclusive Express and Burkey’s Babe, think she has a good shot at making it back to back wins.

(3) Burkey’s Babe – Red hot barn also has good numbers when they give horses a little time between starts, will be part of the early speed.

(4) Exclusive Express – Part of the pace with Burkey’s Babe, first off the claim for Eoin, this lightly raced filly appears to be going well now.

Race 3

(4) Pure Luck – Barn is having a nice meet and usually brings them to the track ready to roll first time out, turf breeding by Animal Kingdom out of Serena’s Joy. Beyer Par for this race is 68, none of the field has ran to that number yet and most haven’t came close.

(6) Chase Runner – Appears to be the best of those that have ran, 3rd off layoff and has enough early speed to gain position into the first turn.

(2) Boundary Pass – Has been off to a poor start in both tries, made up a few lengths in the stretch to finish 4th at same level in previous.

Race 4

(4) Mr. Cheerful – In a race with a lot of unknowns, horses coming off layoffs, first time starters including a couple making debut as 4 year olds I will stick with one that has been competitive in some high priced MSW races, ran well in first try on dirt and now picks up leading jockey Camacho.

(2) Secret Boyfriend – Improvement in the last could have been from the slop or maybe just an improving 4 year old, another one proven competitive at this level.

(7) Cambre – Wide post led to a 4 wide trip in debut going long, cutback with better post and trip might get a piece of this at a long price.

Race 5

(4) Malkia – Has the look of an improving filly and coming into the race after 3 straight victories, versatile, has won from well off the pace, 3 back went wire to wire, should have enough early speed to stay close with this group and finishes up well down the lane.

(2) Tearless – Lost any chance with a poor start in last, 2 back was on dirt. Should get a good inside ground saving trip from this post, enough speed to gain a good position into first turn.

(1) Lady Love – Deep closer that has been a consistent runner of late.

Race 6

(3) Mr Lightning Boy – 7yr old has earned more than 300k in his career and seems to have barely lost a step. Depending on what Hold The Giant does coming off the long layoff, should get the lead, when he does get the lead this 13 time winner can be hard to run down.

(4) Big Gillette – Bennett does well with horses coming off layoffs, been a while since he has been on dirt though.

(6) Divine Ambition – This 9 yr old has been a consistent runner his entire career 39/62 finishes in the money, any of his last 4 races puts him right in the mix again.

Race 7

(5) Cheyenne’s Colonel – Comes out of a race where he set some quick fractions in the middle of the race and weakened inside the eighth pole, previous was not a bad effort in a grade 3 event here

(4) Dundalk – Has really blossomed since switching to the barn of O’Connell, Camacho regains the mount and will try to get him to relax a little more early, was a little rank early in the last.

(3) Pirate Beach – Speedy type that has had a little trouble finishing off races with the lead, should get some other company up front in a race with some other speed.

Race 8

(7) She Reads My Text – Will probably be a short price here but looks tough against this group, gets a little drop in class and is the speed of the speed.

(5) Schott – After going winless until the age of 5 ran off 3 victories early in 2018, a few 2nd and 3rds since but hasn’t been good enough to find the winners circle, fits well in this race.

(6) Honest Flight – 2nd off a long layoff, winless last year but does have a couple of wins at Tampa.

Race 9

(7) Hubba Bubba – First try in the claiming ranks, appears to be working well and was given some space between races. Debuted this one at Saratoga against Fog of War.

(4) Vintner – Has been at this same level in each 4 races although this seems like a little easier group, speed numbers have improved every race, will need another small step forward here.
(6) Lyrical Note – Homebred for Woodford Thor., O’Connell is having a nice meet and has done well with several first time starters here. Steady work tab.
