Tampa Bay Downs Racing Analysis — Saturday, December 1, 2018, by Jay Cymerman

RACE 1

6 – SWEETLY MAID (5/2) – The only true sprinter in the field!  Sweezey has this 3yo filly by Liaison (Indian Charlie) in great form.  Look for her to gain a clear lead and be very hard to catch.

4 – SILLY FACTOR (2/1) – Bennett & Camacho team up again and it appears their best strategy would be to stalk rather then send.  6-10 this year and the main threat.

3 – BABIE MONSTER (9/2) – Has been tiring going a bit longer.  I don’t think she can hold off the top pair.

6 – 4 – 3 – 5

RACE 2

5 – J’S HANDSOME FANA (3/2) – Drops from maiden specials over at PID after leading to the stretch in her latest.  Adds lasix for this and looks very strong, but will offer little in terms of value.

2 – R PRECIOUS SEDONA (8/5) – First time starter from leading trainer Bennett also adds lasix and appears the main threat.  She would have to be a little special at first asking.

4 – CLASSICAL LADY (8/1) – The other Bennett horse has the benefit of a race under her belt and that should send her forward here for minor shares.

5 – 2 – 4

RACE 3

7 – PAY ANY PRICE (3/2) – This son of Wildcat Heir is showing no signs of slowing down at 8!  An incredible 13 for 19 at the distance and looking to defend his title here. They’re going to have to giddyup to catch him!

6 – HOLLIS (15/1) – Breeding screams turf! (Street Sense out of Miss Inclined).  This 3yo is eligible give Pay Any Price a run for his money.  He could take his speed to another level over the grass.  A very live longshot!

9 – VISION PERFECT (2/1) – Makes his first start since an ambitious try in the BC Turf Sprint.  Sometimes horses need a few after a race like that and I’m willing to take a small stand against in this spot.  Likely to be an underlay.

7 – 6 – 9 – 1

RACE 4

6 – POLYGRAM (3/1) – Takes a minor drop in class and distance.  Hemingway goes to his go to rider in Centeno.  On the fringes, but these moves could be enough to get him to the winner’s circle.

4 – GREAT HARBOUR CAY (4/1) – A switch back to the main track for trainer Arriagada, who usually needs one with a new horse.  Drops in class with the hopes of getting this one to carry his speed further.  The numbers say he’s vulnerable late.

8 – DANCIN IN THE HEAT (3/2) – This is a real quick turnaround and a major drop in class.  Plenty of red flags, but it’s trainer Georgina Baxter, who’s won with this maneuver before.  His numbers don’t stand out and there are too many question marks to take a low price.

6 – 4 – 8 – 2

RACE 5

8 – ALMOND ROCA (12/1) – Wide open turf sprint offers excellent value!  This one looks to be sitting on a big race.  Scored an impressive win in the Sandpiper here last December and regressed.  Posted a nice number last time sprinting on the turf.  Motion has given her time since and she’s been training sharply for him.  Plenty of value here!

4 – MORTICIA (3/1) – Tries hard every time and is a deserving favorite.  14 out of 16 in the money and almost $500k earned.  Has the numbers to take these wire to wire. Clearly the one they’ll have to beat for the money.

9 – MISS DEPLORABLE (15/1) – Took to the turf and it’s possible for this 3yo daughter of Big Drama to take another step forward here.  In with a shot at big price!

6 – BROADWAY RUN (4/1) – Has done nothing wrong in her 4 starts (2 wins 2 seconds).  Working well for this and would expect another top effort.  Gallardo aboard to boot.

8 – 4 – 9 – 6

RACE 6

7 – SOBY JUNIOR (3/1) – Back to the main track after and encouraging effort last time.  Figures to be forwardly placed while stretching out.  Did run 2nd here in a similar spot last December.  There are no killers here and if he’s left alone he’ll be hard to catch.

9 – MAN UPSTAIRS (5/1) – Used the rail to his advantage last time but now gets the widest draw.  No advantage on the barn change.  Would expect him to make one run late.

4 – PLEASE HUMOR ME (9/2) – Encouraging effort last time when at the bottom level at Pen.  Should be competitive here.  Running on at the end.

7 -9 – 4 – 5

RACE 7

5 – SAY THE WORD (5/2) – 3yo by More Than Ready showed his affinity for a distance of ground on the turf when he finished 2nd in the Breeders Stakes at WO this summer over demanding conditions.  Bounced off that effort, but has trained forwardly for Motion, suggesting a top effort is in store.  His late pace numbers are very good, but this might be a tad short for him.

6 – KITTEN A GETTIN (3/1) – Broke his maiden over the Tampa turf back in Feb. with a similar late running style.  Expect this one to track the choice and try to out kick him late.

2 – AND WON (6/1) – Gallardo getting on board bodes well for confidence in this son of Majestic Warrior.  He poses good late pace figures as well and I would not be shocked if he shows up big!

1 – NEW JERSEY JOHN (6/1) – I do expect this guy to take full advantage of his rail draw and be part of the early pace.  Needs to take a step forward though.

5 – 6 – 2 – 1 – 10

RACE 8

6 – PIONEER MAKER (5/2) – 2yo by Pioneer Of The Nile blew the break in his debut but recovered and got some valuable experience from the effort.  The number came back strong for this level as he looks to drop and pop in his 2nd start.  A very solid play!

4 – TIZM (5/1) – First time starter by Tizway for Diane Kobiskie could be any kind.  Solid works and adds lasix for debut.  Watch the board!

3 – BUNSTER (6/1) – Tries the dirt for new connections after a miserable outing last time.  The son of Temple City has speed and should be forwardly placed here.

2 – MY LITTLE ROCKSTAR (8/1) – Bred for the turf, this son of Red Rocks takes a big class drop and tries the main track while turning back slightly.  Showed some signs of life and is a threat with these.

6 – 4 – 3 – 2

RACE 9

10 – PETER’S KITTEN (2/1) – Just missed at KD two back before tiring at Kee going 1 1/8mi.  The mile here should hit this son of Kitten’s Joy right between the eyes.

1 – TROPHY DOLL (IRE) (5/1) – Should utilize his speed from the rail for Stidham.  Adds lasix and could be hard to catch.

7 – SHANGHAI JEWEL (15/1) – Top conditioner Bennett takes over and will try to get this guy to ration out his speed on the stretch out.  Should press the pace along with Trophy Doll.

4 – ARCHITECT (9/2) – Centeno for Delacour & gets blinkers added for this.  Another, if he moves forward, that looms a contender in a wide-open finale.

10 – 1 – 7 – 4
