Tampa Bay Downs Racing Analysis- Friday, January 25, 2019- By Christian Avard

Hey everyone. It’s been a busy week for me, so you’ll get the abbreviated edition. I’m picking just the winners this week. As for the Pegasus on Saturday at Gulfstream, I’m going with Accelerate.

Here are today’s picks.

RACE 1: CLM$5,000N1Y, ONE MILE AND 40 YARDS, DIRT, FILLIES AND MARES FOUR YEARS OLD AND UP

This race is a no-brainer. A real bad field with one really good horse. #1. PATRIOTIC ENDEAVOR is the horse that stands out above all the others. She has the highest and most consistent Beyers of the field, finished ITM in her last five races and is trained by John Rigattieri.

RACE 2: MD$25,000, ONE MILE, TURF, FILLIES AND MARES FOUR YEARS OLD AND UP

#3. MONKEY MIND is the horse to beat in this race. Jockey Antonio Gallardo is having a solid meet and he will get the mount today. Trainer Keith Nations is 14 4 0 2 .29 for the meet, his specialty is maiden claiming races and Nations has won seven races for the owners Vince Campenella and Nation’s Racing Stable in the last two years.

RACE 3: MD SP WT $22K, SIX FURLONGS, DIRT, MAIDEN FILLIES AND MARES FOUR YEARS OLD AND UP

#5. SWEET DADDIO came up short in her last two races and should best this field of maidens. Looks like the class of the field. The jockey-trainer combo of Antonia Gallardo-Kathleen O’Connell is spectacular if you’re looking for an angle. In the last two meets Gallardo has won 27 out of 83 races for a .33 winning percentage and .64 ITM. A solid play here.

RACE 4: MD $16,000, SIX FURLONGS, DIRT, MAIDEN FILLIES AND MARES FOUR YEARS OLD AND UP

#3. IGOTTAWHITEFACE is a Kentucky invader, so she’s raced against better company. Finished ITM in her last two races, gets a hot jockey Jesus Castanon (102 18 12 13 .18) and trainer Michael Tomlinson is having a good meet too (8 1 3 0 .12).

RACE 5: MD $25,000, SIX-AND-A-HALF FURLONGS, DIRT, MAIDEN FILLIES THREE-YEAR-OLDS

I want to go with #6. TURKO TREAT, but she’s probably going to get a lot of chalk. So, I’ll go with #3. LOLANITA. Trainer Luis Carvajal is 17 3 1 0 .18 this meet and he’s going with a jockey who’s won for him before, Andres Ulloa (two wins out of 10 starts for a .20 winning percentage). Filly is dropping down in class, switching from turf to dirt and going from route to sprint. So Carvajal is making all the moves for this filly to win this race.

RACE 6: CLAIMING $20,000, ONE MILE, TURF, THREE-YEAR-OLD FILLIES

#9 NEW FOUND TREASURE stands out above the others in this crowded field. Jockey Samy Camacho is due for a winner and he’ll be riding this one. Filly is making a second start off a long layoff and trainer Kathleen O’Connell is batting 62 .19 AVG. ROI $2.88 at this angle. Camacho pulled her up in her last race but I think she’ll prevail.

RACE 7: OC $16,000/N1X, SIX FURLONGS, DIRT, FOUR-YEAR-OLDS AND UP

I like #2 NICK THE CARDSHARK not because of his cool name but because this horse has the best Beyers in the field, is trained by John Rigattieri and has Antonio Gallardo in the irons. Rigattieri is the claiming king (81 .21 AVG. ROI $2.12) at TAM.

RACE 8: MD SP WT $27,000, ONE MILE AND 40 YARDS, DIRT, THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDENS

Marquee race of the day and it’s a no-brainer. #2. AND SEEK, a Kentucky invader, will crush this field. Trained by A-lister Dale Romans, owned by West Point Thoroughbreds and Samy Camacho is about.

I always skip the last race of the day, so good luck, don’t bet every race and most of all … have fun.
