Hey everyone, Bryan Doranski returning here for another Stronach Pick 5!! For the 5 weeks I have done this we are 1:6 but +$584 I got blown up last week in what ended up being a much tougher sequence with some nice prices but that only means 1 thing! CARRYOVER!!!! There is 167k of dead money in this pool. This is the one we want to hit and there is a good chance we go a little larger to get there!
Enjoy the races and give me a follow-on Twitter @BDHorseplayer- I’d love to hear feedback or comments on your thoughts on the races!
Laurel R8 3:50PM EST Maiden Claiming $5k 8F on Dirt
Big ole field here to close out the Laurel card but open up our Carryover Stronach. I am not a huge fan of this field, a bunch of very average horses here.
12 HAND RAIL – Not sure if this horse can win today, as there is not a lot of pace here for a horse that probably prefers to come from the back.
11 R TRUE SENSATION-I don’t understand the ML here at 8/1, perhaps that he hasn’t won in a while, or the jockey has been cold, but with the weight allowance here on a horse that has shown it likes to be on the lead early, could fit.
6 CROSSINGTHEVALLEY- Back class, that is all let’s move on. This horse is similar to the 12 in that it needs some pace to run into. Perhaps we get it, but this horse could be way too short to play in the sequence. Watch the tote and let it guide your decision here.
4 ORBITING- I want to include this horse because while looking at this I see this horse as a possible early horse all by itself. Not likely but could happen, especially at 6F on the dirt at Laurel. This would be a huge price to start this sequence with but wouldn’t surprise me entirely.
Gulfstream Park R8 5:33PM EST Claiming $16K 8F on Turf
This race could be bombs away, feels like a big price comes here today, and with that said I like normal horses. So, I can be right with my writings but wrong with the selections. I kid, but for a race to feel this wide open and I like the 3/1 type horses I will feel wrong until the race is over. If the alternates do not draw in, there does not seem to be a lot of early speed, so keep that in mind how the field changes with the morning notes.
8 AMERICAN NINJA- Zayas here for this NY bred down in Florida, and at a 8F Turf race, I want to come from off the pace at Gulfstream. This horse will be back early and have a late run, we just have to stay close enough to not get lost. If a few of these alternates draw in, could have traffic in the back to contend with.
7 GOSILENTLY-Jaramillo for us here and I have played this horse enough to like it. Early runner here and if the alternates do not draw in, horse could be out there running by itself.
2 UNLOCKTHEPOTENTIAL- This is a horse that could be in the back with AMERICAN NINJA, just waiting for a moment to open up. Meneses has been decent lately with the timing but could have traffic trouble deep.
10 CHEYENNE- Not sure entirely who will be riding this horse given the scratches and alternates, but I like the weight allowance if Torres stays aboard for Servis here. Looked ok on turf 18 months ago, and comes back to it now. The last race at Gulfstream is proving to be a good one for horses coming back but that was a dirt race. Keep on eye here and see if Servis has magic.
Golden Gate R3 3:44PM EST Maiden Claiming $25k 6 F on Synthetic
3 KNOWN- Horse will be a price and Desormeaux is hit or miss lately. This horse is going to have a lot of pace and the way Golden Gate has been playing, I want a live horse in the stretch, and this is one. Ideally horse can stalk and hammer in the stretch at a huge price.
2 MISTER MCLEAN- Likely favorite here and lightly raced horse. Last workout was pretty good, and I cannot pass this horse up here. Should be up front early but pace wise could still have some in the tank for the stretch run.
8 THATSABADBOY- This horse comes back to sprint distance after flopping at routes. Similarly, to the 3 I think this horse is going to be moving quickly late especially with the cutback in distance.
Santa Anita R3 5:00PM EST Maiden Claiming $50k 5.5F on Dirt
What a tough race in the middle of our sequence.
3 FRESH FACE- John Sadler entry here from Uncle Mo and Stockings. Her first-time starters are 1/2 for a limited sample size but Sadler can get debut horses to the winner’s circle. He is hitting at 16% along with 25% for first Lasix horses. Worth enough to me to give FRESH FACE a shot.
5 MALIBU CAT- Started slow last out but no surprise with the year layoff. Faced pretty good company considering so I can defend a few things. Probably an easier field considering and this horse figures to be involved. Nice workout and pattern since last race, as a 4 year old though, is carrying 5 lbs more, as are a lot of the horses today. It may not play much into things but should be noted.
1 ENRICHED BY DEB- Interesting filly here for Baltas and Espinoza on the mount. Pedigree is good enough for this field and workouts show some impressive form for a first-time starter. I will be waiting to see the CLOCKER REPORT to decide on inclusion.
6 RANEEM- So pretty sure I used this Baffert horse before and it did no good for me. Now I am using it as a pure hedge here. This horses best recent effort beats the horses here that have ran. Do I expect to get that today, not really, but I will watch the tote and make adjustments here if need me.
Gulfstream Park R10 5:33PM EST Maiden Claiming $25k 8F on Turf for Fillies
4 NOBLE LION- I want to like this horse more than I should, so reeling in my excitement for the Maragh/Rubley tandem today. Last race was a career best then took the layoff, but the workouts haven’t been something to get excited about. Not sure if the horse can finish at what is probably going to be a shorter price.
5 SPINNING KITTEN- I shouldn’t like this horse in this spot, especially the up the track finish last out. So I am going to play this horse. I think we can forgive the last out effort a little bit and the switch to Jaramillo is one that I like. Horse should be middle of the pack and if the ride is right, could fall to this horse.
12 CRUPI’S PIZZA DOM- Like this horse from a pace perspective only. Has some speed perhaps can hold on in the end and win.
7 SIR HOSKI- This horse will be coming flying late and could be a decent type of price. Workouts leave a lot to be desired, but the clocker report could help form opinions here.
My Play
R1- 12,11,6
R2- 8,7
R3- 3,2,8
R4- 3,5
R5- 4,5,12,7
Here we are for $144 ticket! As I have done in all weeks, keeping this price respectable and affordable for everyone. I would love to throw $216 or so at this sequence, but we have done well so far being affordable, so let’s keep this trend going everyone!
As always check out on Twitter for the Daily Gallop post and any last minute changes I will post on their tweet of the sequence!
