Stakes Preview: G2 Connaught Cup, by Andrew Rdesinski

  1. Silent Poet- Stein/ Gonzalez
    1. Silent Poet will be on the lead if not the lone leader in this sprint race. Stein has been riding exceptionally as of late and this horse loves Woodbine. Stein gets the mount today which to me is a plus. He gets the job done, time after time and he is the rightful favorite here. Must use.
  2. White Flag- Contreras/ Clement
    1. At 3/1 I am not a huge fan of White Flag here. He is definitely one of the classiest of the bunch. He never seems to get the job done however. Contreras is a good jockey but he isn’t as good as this horse’s previous jockeys. I think he will be better here due to the drop in competition but I still don’t see him winning.
  3. Blind Ambition- Husbands/ Casse
    1. Blind Ambition is a classy horse and goes back to graded stakes company again after a tough small starter stake at FG last time out. Hasn’t run since covid really started which is odd but also understandable. Seems to like Woodbine but might need a race off of the layoff. Will be passing on this horse today.
  4. Admiralty Pier- Lermyte/ Minshall
    1. Admiralty Pier should be on the lead early and could press the 1 and 8 today. Lermyte has been holding his own so far this meet and so has Barbara Minshall. He was a grade 3 at Tampa back in February but it was against weaker. He also seems to not like the Woodbine Turf course. That being said, at 10/1 in this tough field, I will be looking elsewhere.
  5. Regally Irish- Bahen/ Motion
    1. Regally Irish is in way over his head in this spot. Motion has been firing lately, especially with horses off of a layoff. Bahen isn’t the best of jockeys but he can get the job done if needed. Regally Irish has been beaten time and time again against a lot weaker so I will be fading him here.
  6. City Boy- Moran/Keogh
    1. City Boy is another longshot I am not a huge fan of. He did win a Grade 2 at 24/1 last october but that was with Jesse Campbell and not with David Moran. He has been off since November and that isn’t a good sign for me in this spot. He probably will need one and also should be against weaker in my opinion.
  7. Olympic Runner- Kimura/ Casse
    1. Olympic Runner is my top selection today. Kazushi Kimura is my favorite jockey at Woodbine and in my opinion the best jockey talent wise up there. He is by far the best turf jockey up there and I would and usually do blindly bet him on the turf daily. THis horse off of the long layoff ran a strong 2nd against weaker with Kimura in which he just missed the ML favorite of the #1. I think 2nd off the layoff and with Kimura and his runstyle he should be tough to hold off down the stretch. Must USE.
  8. Gray’s Fable- Hernandez/ Attfield
    1. It wouldn’t be a turf race at Woodbine without a Roger Attfield runner. Gray’s Fable is the other dominating speed in this race and could duel with the #1. Rafael Hernandez keeps the mount after a gate to wire finish last time out. The connections here are incredibly consistent and dominant. I think if somehow he gets the lead by himself, he will not be caught. However, I don’t see him being on the lead by himself today. Must use underneath and in horizontals.
