Stake Recap: G2 Raven Run- By Andrew Rdesinski

Raven Run Stakes Review

  1. Royal Charlotte- Tyler Gaffalione/ Chad Brown
    1. Royal Charlotte just ended up being flat throughout the whole race. I don’t know what went wrong but it wasn’t the performance that her form portrayed. Gaffalione had her in the right spot but couldn’t get anything out of her.
  2. Bell’s The One – Corey Lanerie/ Neil Pessin
    1. I predicted that she was a live longshot due to her closing ability, but I never would have predicted this performance. She came from last place and closed like a rocket to win going away. The leaders which were the #3 and #11 dueled at a fast pace which also helped Bell’s the One win like this. Incredible performance for a promising this 3yo.
  3. Indian Pride- John Velazquez/ Chad Brown
    1. Indian Pride tried to take them gate to wire, but she was outclassed and the 11 Irish Mischief went and dueled. Indian Pride after a fast pace and dueling quarters, still managed to tough out a solid and promising third.
  4. Oxy Lady- Declan Cannon/ Jack Sisterson
    1. I never liked this filly but she ran better than I was expecting. She didn’t have anything in the tank when Declan tried to make the move with the horse. She finished a lukewarm 6th.
  5. Free Cover- Gabriel Saez/ Bret Calhoun
    1. Free Cover couldn’t get the early lead and after about a half mile trying her hardest to get there and not being quick enough she virtually just quit and stopped running.
  6. Restless Rider- Brian Hernandez Jr./ Kenneth McPeek
    1. SCR
  7. Istan Council- Chantal Sutherland/ Larry Jones
    1. Istan Council never showed anything and it was over for her by the first quarter. Never ran better than mid pack throughout the whole race.
  8. First Star- Drayden Van Dyke/ Ronald Ellis
    1. I actually bet First Star in this race and I liked the horse coming into the race. I didn’t think she was gonna get beat with about a half of a furlong left. Then out of nowhere the #2 Bell’s the One just blew right by. First Star ran the best race however. She was right outside the leaders all the way around and pounced when the speed folded, and Drayden Van Dyke got all he could out of her. Love this filly stepping forward.
  9. Horologist- Joe Bravo/ Richard Batlas
    1. Horologist in my eyes was the biggest disappointment in this race. She never even showed an interest in running in this race. Bravo tried to get her going but never got a response. She only beat one horse which was the 2nd longest shot on the board.
  10. Needs Supervision- Feargal Lynch/ Jeremiah O’Dwyer
    1. As I predicted she was going to be bet a little today, and she did but not by much when the gates opened. She was bumped at the ½ mile pole, and she showed some interest after that but she seemed to be bothered by the contact. I like her in the future.
  11. Irish Mischief- Mike Smith/ Brad Cox
    1. Everyone was talking about how this filly was working lights out at Keenland and how she was going to take a step forward today. She did take a step forward but ruined her chances by dueling with Indian Pride. She managed to round out the Superfecta and she was bet down to 7/1. Mike Smith gave her a good ride and she proved she was legit by digging in to maintain 4th.
