Santa Anita Analysis 12/4

Race 1- #3 Takis Choice looks very strong in this spot. Seems like this endurance and pace horse is going to love the cut back in distance! #6 Ice Kat seems to fit the same script as the top choice but just a tad slower. #8 Chosen Vessel, a rare Texas Ship to California might like the cut back in distance (and the weather) at a price.
Race 2- #1 Smart Rachel is a risky proposition but it’s hard not to like that last effort coming into a mile race; looks great here. #6 Princess Leia took a race off from her consistent form but expect to see her come back to it this Friday.
Race 3- #1 Shanghai Billy should benefit immensely from having Rosario in the Irons today. That along with some strong works, and a good performance under the belt might be enough to beat up on a small field at a good price. #3 Stonegate will be a deserved favorite upon entering the gate. The horse is quick but can’t seem to put all the pieces together in a single race. Still a strong contender. #2 Seahawk Wave will be the carefully considered third choice. Like the top two much more here but this horse might do something freaky…
Race 4- #2 Foxtail should improve once more on a strong last effort. The distance and grass is where this mare belongs and I think she’ll show us that tomorrow. #5 Sudden Light. Last week I bragged on behalf of James Cassidy saying he always knows the perfect spots for his runners. I’m standing by that and saying this four year old Filly might run off at a HUGE PRICE. #8 Take A Leap looks like a logical choice but will be shorter odds. Concerned we will see this one hang so be weary about leaving her on top
Race 5- #2 Junior Gilliam- this Hollendorfer trainee finds the perfect spot here. All things go. #1 Allaboutmike showed us a game effort on the dirt last out and might like a little bit more distance. Worth a shot at the price. #5 Stone Hands is going to be hit or miss here. Last effort is concerning but could perform well off this little layoff pattern.
Race 6- Very tough race here. Six horses caught my eye. Tough to narrow it down to three. #3 Carribean Colours Paynter and famous A.P. Indy in the bloodline with some nice works. #6 Omaha Beach has been impressive over turf but has shown a ton on dirt during morning workouts. Should be sharp here. #1 Istanbul- best effort on dirt was when he was hanging with Roadster. Slightly concerned about the distance but the class here is undeniable.
Race 7- #7 Tonahutu Gets back to sprinting and this one looks ready to explode down the hill. #2 Okinawa- Baltas trainee looks sharp and might beat this field if not for the above entry.
Race 8- #7 Clyde’s Pride looks like a sure favorite with excellent past performances, strong work tab, and Hollendorfer . #6 Cyclomatic showed us a ton on his debut and could build on that. #8 Raul Rosas fits a similar bill as Cyclomatic but might lack the closing kick needed to win today. Use underneath.
Race 9- #4 Tank Team might have an unknown affinity for the turf and if so, will be the right distance. Longshot to watch. #6 Unusual Angel gets back to preferred surface and if our in the right spot by Blanc; has a chance. #9 Unusual Rider will be the favorite and has some numbers to back it up.
