SA 1/18 Analysis
By: Hudson Davis
Only two top pick winners last Friday but still managed to add on to ROI, $2.60 in the green (poor roulette choice today) bringing my meet total to +$17.20 on $2 win wagers on top choice only.
Race 1) #4 Reachreachreach threw in a big time clunker last out at Los Al but I wouldn’t worry too much. Has big track roots and Doug O’Neill on her side. #1 Imminent looks like the logical play here but my only worry is her ability to hold on but should be close at the wire. #7 Meritocracy doesn’t look like she has the running style to win at 5 ½ furlongs but she looks great and ready and is our deserved third choice.
Race 2) #2 Imperial Creed has just the experience to beat up on this group of inexperienced runners for the condition. Rosario helps. Top pick. #6 Discreet Diva has shown some serious class and speed on a different surface and will probably use the last effort to build up for this race. #3 Vegas Strong Baby looks fast but recent efforts show that this filly might hang against a sneakily competitive field.
Race 3) #1 SPACERIKA big price here for the readers has been working phenomenally of late combined with two of her best races to date. Mix in a hard trying jockey and the recipe for success might prove successful. #3 Weather Market and #5 Whataflirt will be my underneaths. Won’t go into to much detail but besides my top pick, I agree with the morning line here.
Race 4) #3 Arch Anthem has shown the explosive speed you need to win this kind of race in Southern California. Love the pedigree and think this one has a strong shot. #2 Big Buzz- this first time gelding has been working STRONG after that little procedure of his and might show us another gear. #8 Impeachableoffense – to all reading, please don’t keep this horse off your tickets. So many X factors for this inexperienced runner it might even be worth some win money.
Race 5) #5 Chasin Lucas will be running second off a small little layoff and looks poised to make a strong run here. #3 Li’l Grazen for Peter Miller looks like the probable favorite here and deservedly so. Good numbers and an optimal distance with a red hot trainer. #4 Shylock Eddie looks like more of a turfer but hasn’t had too many dirt starts of late and could be getting acclimated. Look for a nice price and be sure to include in tickets.
Race 6) #1 Irish and Lucky will be my only pick for this inexpensive and complicated group of runners. Looks like this one will finally get the trip and distance she so badly wants.
Race 7) #6 Nap Lajoie seems to be in the shape of his life and I wouldn’t be surprised if he proves that to us tomorrow. Hasn’t been on real dirt in a while and when he was it was a romp. Looking to duplicate. #4 Plain Wrap- can’t quite wrap my head around this one but the past performances are telling me not to leave Plain Wrap out.
Race 8) #1 Secret Touch has been going through the class ranks looking as explosive as ever. I don’t think this level or field will be an exception. #3 Twentytwentyvision has been up against the wall class wise and shortens up a little bit distance wise and should be uber competitive. #9 Plum Dandy is beautifully bred and the class of this horse looks out of place in this starter allowance. The horse seems to be improving and could build off the last run.
Good luck to all!!!!
