Santa Anita Park Racing Analysis- Friday, December 28, 2018- By Hudson Davis

SA 12/27 Analysis

Race 1: # 2 Speakerofthehouse- my first selection for the Daily Gallop looks ready to take on this field. With an experienced pilot and a few good runs, I expect to see this one near the front at the end. #1 Shining Through- last effort was undeniably impressive for a first time turfer. #7 Seven Oxen has been getting used to turf lately and combined with above average run and an affinity for the turf; he looks good at a price.

Race 2: #4 Sooner Better with a strong work tab and little experience should give a fun price in a short field. #2 Frozen Money will be a rightful favorite. Breeding and the last out performance should put this one close. #1 Knights Cross only dirt effort wasn’t too impressive but recent experience on turf and level of races should help this one today.

Race 3 #5 Don’t Stalk Me has been uber consistent lately. This horse might toy with this group. #1 Hollywood Dancer has recent  experience with better horses (relatively speaking) and could grab some place/show money. #6 Our Tiger’s Boy is in right where he should be. Also a contender for second or third.

Race 4 #14 Maxim Rate if drawn in is a strong contender. Filly from Exchange Rate, with a good work tab, and strong first out connections should be worth a look. #3 Shut It Up- this O’Neil trainee had a strong first effort on the turf. Gets an extra furlong and a half which should help tremendously. #6 Objective had a similar debut to the aforementioned Shut It up. Could toss a coin between these two but they should both be very close at the end of the downhill.

Race 5 #6 Desired Edge should like the spot she’s in. Willing to toss the last in the slop at Los Alamitos. #10 One Upper third off the lay-off and running well of late is one to consider. #7 Warm It Up should be a nice price come post time for an experienced runner second off a lay-off with a couple good works.

Suggested Pick 4- 1,2,8/3,4,6/2,4,7,9,10/2,5,8,10

Race 6 #8 Epical for what I believe will be a strong season for the Cassidy Barn and a horse who ran in both the Del Mar and Twilight Derby before routing a good field in the last should be ultra strong here. #1 Starting Bloc has been showing great talent of late with a pretty looking turn of foot. #2 Eckersly has been as consistent as they come. You might think this one’s overmatched in this spot but try telling that to the horse!

Race 7 #4 Zap Again- this first time gelding has been preparing a long time for this run. Should be in great shape and live up to his past runs. #6 Smuggler Union took off two back at Del Mar going 5.5 furlongs and then threw in a mediocre performance going 6.5 furlongs. Splits the middle today going 6 furlongs and might take off again. #3 Aristocratic- 5-2 Peter Miller runner looks strong but could throw in a clunker or run off the screen. Because of the possibility for the clunker, will be my third choice.

Race 8 #4 Flying Scotsman just looks like he will dominate this field. #7 Neptune’s Storm closed a little bit on Scotsman in the maiden ranks and might forget he’s running in a stakes race. #10 Bob and Jackie looks like a front runner but I think will be run down in the stretch. Use underneath.

Suggested Wager- Trifecta Key Box – 10/ 2,4,7,9 and 4/2,7,9,10

Race 9 #8 Gio’s Calling has been running quick and fast of late to put it plainly. Eddie Truman found a good spot to run for this one. #10 Hard Arch could be outclassed but it’s undeniable that this colt runs his best races at a mile. #2 Harrovian is a wild card and could just feel like winnin’ today. Time will tell!
