Santa Anita Park Racing Analysis — Sunday, October 4, 2020, by Ryan McCarthy

A good 10 race Sunday card today, featuring two stakes and thee MSW events. Field size certainly larger for the late sequence today, but despite the short fields early, some good betting races and as always a low takeout early pick 5 that has potential for some prices.

Weather: 97 and Sunny. Hot!

Track: Fast and Firm

Plan of Attack

Early Pick 5 will be centered around the single in race 2 (#3) where I will need to find some prices around it. An affordable single ticket of 3,4,5,7,9 / 3 / 2,3 / 3,4,5,6 / 1,3,5 could allow for a bigger base play, or to go multiple ticket route keeping with the single but going deeper in the races I see as most open (Race 1 and 4). Always recommend waiting to see the board for R1 and DD probables before finalizing and horizontal wager.

Late Pick 5 will be the multiple ticket approach for me most likely, looking at using the lone A’s as singles on one tickets while spreading in other legs, second ticket using one lone A single, and the third ticket using the other. If neither wins, game over for me on the sequence. The good news is, if the #3 in R6 is a key play and single (again will await to see board and probable) and misses, can run back opinions on P4 tickets.

Daily Double Opportunities: I like the prices on Baffert and Miller in R7 and R8 (Maxim Strider) so if probable show any value here, will be playing DD’s in and out of these races focused around these two runners.

Most Likely Winner: Race 2: #3

Best Value (based on ML): Race 7: #7 Holden the Lute  Race 8: #7 Maxim Strider Race9: #10 Found My Ball
