Presque Isle Downs Racing Analysis — Monday, May 27, 2019, by John Piassek

Race 1: Maiden Claiming $12,500, 3yo and up, 5 Furlongs
1- Big Max: Faces a much easier field than last time, and showed some sharp form last year. Willing to give him another chance first off the layoff.
5- Sunny Side Over: Markgraf first-timer has been working out sharply coming in here, and Pino jumps aboard. Watching the odds on this one.
6- Little Tequila: Expected favorite has been facing slightly classier and running strong figures over the turf in south Florida. Runs for the first time since October 26, so not quite sure what to expect first off the layoff.

Race 2: Claiming $5,000, 3yo and up, Fillies and Mares, 1 Mile 70 Yards
3- Lena Love: Has some recent good form and speed from an inside post. Threw down a three-furlong bullet on May 10, so should be in sharp condition.
6- Comica: Drops from allowance company at Mahoning Valley and picks up Morales for local debut. She had a good streak earlier in the year of coming in the top four five times in a row, with a stalk-and-pounce style.
7- Senorita Sparkplug: Started to decline near the end of the meet last year, but was in consistent form at this level a year ago. Makes her first start since August 27. Might need one to round into form.

Race 3: Maiden Special Weight, 3yo and up, Fillies and Mares, 1 Mile
3- Chancetheracer: Graham Motion ships this one up from Monmouth Park and takes her off the turf. In her lone dirt start, which was her debut, she set the pace and hung in well to finish second. Now drops in class for sharp connections.
6- Perfect Kind: The “other” Motion in the field had a good tune-up at Pimlico last out, and has been rounding into form in her last few.
2- Feets of Feather: Closed sharply on turf last out, and is lightly-raced. Should be heard from late.

Race 4: Maiden Claiming $6,250, 3yo and up, 6 1/2 Furlongs
3- Capo del Capi: You don’t see too many horses cutting from 2 1/4 miles to 6 1/2 furlongs, but he’s doing just that. Showed some decent form on the turf earlier in his career, but hasn’t been seen on the flats in almost a year. The most likely winner, I think, but not worth betting at low odds.
7- Late Night Jones: Improved when cutting back last out, but was visually unimpressive. Lightly-raced enough to consider.
1- After the Money: I picked this 0-for-35 maiden on top last time, only to watch him finish third. His figures are good enough to use underneath, but can’t take him to win again.

Race 5: Maiden Claiming $25,000, 3yo and up, 5 1/2 Furlongs
1- Regal Chant: Drops in class after two starts at Tampa Bay, and ran her best race on debut last year at this track.
3- Go Girl Gone: Flashed plenty of early speed on the turf at Gulfstream Park, and in fact crossed the wire first last out before being disqualified. The 0-for-12 mark is daunting, but can’t discount her entirely.
7- Annie Up Buck: Finger Lakes shipper races for a tag for the first time and should press the pace from the outside.

Race 6: Claiming $6,250, 3yo and up, 6 Furlongs
8- Amigo’s Affair: Almost wired a similar field last out, before getting caught on the wire by a huge longshot. Going to give him another chance to take them all the way.
3- Salsa Lane; He may have spun his wheels in the stretch in his last race, but he spun them to a career-best brisnet figure of 80. Should be closing once again to pick up at least a minor piece.
7- Another for Mario: Showed great form over the synthetic last year, but laid an egg to end his campaign, and has been given almost seven months off. Might need more distance.

Race 7: Allowance (n/w1x), 3yo and up, Fillies and Mares, 6 Furlongs
3- J’s Indian Charm: This speedy filly has won four out of her last five races, with the only loss coming against much classier at Tampa Bay. Should run them off their feet here.
4- May Flowers: Won a starter allowance last out, now catches a weak allowance field. She worked out a great stalking trip in that race, and should get another one here.
7- War of the States: Broke through to win for the first time at Laurel Park three starts back, then tried turf and Woodbine without success. Facing this field should help.

Race 8: Claiming $5,000, 3yo and up, 6 Furlongs
2- Man About Town
4- K’s Little Bill
1- Niceandez
