Oaklawn Park Racing Analysis — Friday, April 19, 2019, by Hudson Davis

Been sporadic lately writing but have been doing some fun things; including a trip to see Keeneland in Lexington. Excited to be writing again today and hope we can get some winners!

Race 1) #1A Call Me Derby looks to have what it takes in the opener. The one two back wins today going away and I’m willing to toss the last with the troubled trip. If anyone contends this one towards the wire, it’s going to be #10 I Got The Brahms

Race 2) Looks like #9 Mr. Tickle will finally get what he wants today. Cutting back slightly and getting what should be a fast track; I think this one will be the deserved favorite. Another that caught my eye at a huge price is #4 Sabbatarian. You have to go back a ways to find an effort that would be competitive here but he seems to be in as good of shape as you could ask for and dirt is definitely the surface of choice.

Race 3) #3 Sugar Cube looks absolutely phenomenal in this spot. Closed seriously a couple back in a spring similar to this one but willing to write off the loss due to lack of experience sprinting. With a strong rider in Santana this one is a serious threat and earns the honors of my top pick of the day.

Race 4) Race 4 looks like a fun and cheap maiden claimer where we will give the nod to #2 Spark Joy. Spark Joy definitely needed the race last out and should be in a much better spot today. Shipping from Fair Grounds helps and he definitely looks to be a sprint type horse.

Race 5) #1 Apollo’s Leap threw in a clunker (relatively) last out but if this son of Orb runs anything like his past form he will be going away. I’m betting on the latter.

Race 6) #7 Honduras Pride was declared a non starter in the last but was in for the right price. This race looks pretty cheap but if Honduras Pride can replicate along with the class drop I wouldn’t be surprised to see the 7 cross the wire first.

Race 8) We finally get some strength with this feature here where I’m going to select #5 Turkmenistan. I really like how this filly has been running of late and with the long layoff of the 7 I think the 5 can make up a good amount of ground here in the feature.
