Laurel Racing Analysis- Saturday July 6 2019- By Chris Woods

Race 1: Clm $12.5k 6F

1st: #2 Manipulated, extremely consistent performer has been victim of speed bias in his recent tries that have all come at higher class levels. Last time he was dropped in for sale was back in February at this level and he won that day earning an 80 Beyer. Simply fastest in the field, retains top local pilot McCarthy.

2nd: #3 Bo Vuk, named for owner/trainer Robert Vukelic, this will be his third time out this year and he showed significant improvement from first to second out efforts in last two. Like the last out rallying and may have won if that was at today’s distance. Second to The Great Provider a high quality claimer. Couldn’t blame you for taking this one at what will probably be a slightly higher price than my top selection.

3rd: #1 Tambora, the only speed in the field, if the main track is electric and this one gets away easy I wouldn’t be shocked to see him maintain a lead for 6F at a solid price.

Race 2: MdClm $25k 2 Year Olds F&M 5F

1st: #8 Ankle Monitor, Claudio Gonzalez trainee dropping out of MdSpWt company and taking the blinkers off. Trainer is 43% with second start maidens and she earned the field’s best Beyer in her debut.

2nd: #7 Girl Next Door, debuter has some solid gate drills among her 7 published works. She should be ready to run and trainer Lynch is hitting 33% with Debuting MdClmers.

3rd: #6 Determined Love, showed solid improvement from first to second effort nearly wiring the field but relinquishing the lead late in the stretch. Should be better off for it.

Race 3: Clm $12.5k 5 & ½F Turf

1st: #8 Lion Lord, 2 for 2 over this lawn, today will be his first time back on the grass since a win last October at this condition. The dirt tries have been solid if unspectacular, but they show he is in fine form and is waiting to get back to the preferred surface. Dropping from allowance company as well. Betting on him taking advantage of the large contingent of early speed.

2nd: #3 Not a Chance, couldn’t blame you if you went with this one on top, the two back effort over this lawn was high quality and he earned a 79 Beyer for that performance. Last out got washed off the turf and he nearly won.

3rd: #2 Greely Is Back, member of the early speed contingent, has been close recently at lower prices.

Race 4: MdClm $40k F&M 1 & 1/16thM Turf

1st: #7 Unabridged, second time back up for sale for this one, Lawrence is putting the blinkers on and adding Lasix for the first time, a combination he’s had considerable success with in the past. Horse owns by far the field’s best Beyer in the three back an open MdSpWt event up in New York but has struggled out of the gate. Blinkers hope to rectify that.

2nd: #2 Not My Money, would probably be my pick if she had a race under her belt since last October. She only has three published drills under her belt, suspect she needs a race or two to build up stamina. Clearly consistent in the class above this one.

3rd: #5 Height of Thestorm, 3rd try on turf, looked to be heading in the right direction before the last try which she tired in.

Race 5: MdClm $10k F&M 1 & 1/16thM

1st: #3 Simmard Shenanigan, two best tries lifetime have both come at two turns. A little surprising to see Corrales go back to dirt after a decent try on the turf that earning her her best lifetime Beyer figure and the top in this field. Suspect two turns on dirt right up her alley and she goes back to the absolute bottom level here.

2nd: #8 No Necessary Drama, career best effort last time out just a half length behind at the wire going 9F over at Charles Town at their bottom level. Probably a step up in class but my guess is Dorothy Worton has figured she prefers longer.

3rd: #5 Two Step Sis, lightly raced 3 year old getting her second ever try on dirt after a third place effort on a heavily biased speed track in her last.

Race 6: [R]Alw $35k F&M 5 & ½F

1st: #2 Past Perfect, keeping strong company including open stakes horses in her last where she finished last in the field but wasn’t embarrassed and earned a nice 69 Beyer. Has beaten OC$50k company as recently as March.

2nd: #5 Last Love, probably has the most early speed in the field, this one has the best record in the field winning twice in OC$25k company which typically is higher quality than these restricted allowance races. The Beyers don’t quite stack up to the tops of this field but suspect she’s rounding back to the form she had in early spring based on the last out effort.

3rd: #4 What the Beep, got hot for a moment breaking her maiden and following it with a win in first level allowance, she’s definitely a candidate to improve second off the layoff and this is a good spot for her. Best races seem to be on turf, don’t know why they’re trying dirt here.

Race 7: OC$50k F&M 5F Turf

1st: #5 Unaquoi, two sharp efforts since the return from the layoff, the last of which came on the lead the entire way going slightly longer than today’s distance. Get to the lead early goes far at 5F. 3 for 5 on the local lawn.

2nd: #2 Souper Echo, Trombetta trainee has had three strong efforts since getting on the turf recently including a win at the $35k level and a decent effort in The Very One Stakes on Preakness day.

3rd: #6 Too Much Tip, another one close to the lead, got beat 2 lengths at this level last time out in her first on turf. Eligible to improve.

Race 8: OC$35k F&M 1 & 1/16thM Turf

1st: #4 Ode to Joy, everything you want to see from this Delacour filly. She broke her maiden back in April going one turn earning a 77 Beyer and followed it with a win going two turns locally as well. Love the style of coming from just off the pace. Would hammer this filly.

2nd: #7 Vortex Road, Bruce Levine ships this one down from New York who should find it a little more comfortable than those rich allowance races on Long Island. Last out effort earned an 82 Beyer despite tiring.

3rd: #6 Kailee, earned a win in the first level allowance last out back in April. Just two published drills, but definitely a contender.

Race 9: MdClm $16k 6F

1st: #1 Paid Holiday, got to the lead early last out and got nipped at the wire while earning a 49 Beyer at the $25k level. Drops back to $16 today.

2nd: #6 Dapper Mun, field best 54 Beyer in the last out effort at the $25k level, looks to me like a horse that needs to route, goes back to dirt here after three turf tries.

3rd: #3 Lucky Junior, another one going back to dirt but has some of the highest figures in the field.
