Laurel Park Racing Analysis — Saturday, November 23, 2019, by Chris Woods

Race 1: MdClm $16k F&M 1M

1st: #8 Stiva, 4-5 fav, there are probably good reasons to bet against this one going form turf to dirt for the first time, but the Beyers are so much better and she’s been keeping such better company it’s impossible to choose against.

2nd: #1 Fairy Wish, last race she took advantage of a really hot pace to come running late and almost got there. Reason to believe she has more improvement in her.

3rd: #2 first try on dirt was ugly, blinkers go on for one of the hottest barns in Maryland.

Race 2: Clm $5k F&M 1M

1st: #2 Sierra Leona, improving figures and seems to be destined for the early lead. Just won by open lengths at this condition and distance locally.

2nd: #5 Robin’s Destiny, most consistent form, second back off the freshening should improve.

3rd: #6 Louise, good numbers, steady contributor.

Race 3: OC$16k 1 & 1/16thM

1st: #5 Hayne’s Fever, toss the sloppy adventure over at Charles Town, the Beyers and a number of wins recently put this one squarely in the forefront of contenders, price should be right.

2nd: #4 Street Code, rarely seen on dirt, his attempt last out going a half panel further saw him tired over a sloppy track after making a run.

3rd: #1a Try Flying, better looking half of the entry, plenty of questions including 0-2 locally, a couple recent wins and decent figs in Pennsylvania don’t equate to a 7-5ML to me.

Race 4: OC$12k 7F

1st: #1 Bobby G, more chalk here, this one has been competitive all year long at levels above this and that race was spectacular just galloping home to win by 7.

2nd: #7 Port Louis, hard to know what to make of his last in the MdMillion event but it was solid.

3rd: #4 Crush It, improving with multiple wins locally.

Race 5: MdSpWt $40k 2 Year Olds 1M

1st: #3 Law of the Land, blinkers on for Delacour, improving figures in a much classier MdSpWt event on the turf at Keeneland. Last breeze excellent.

2nd: #9 Palace Kid, should improve significantly for Trombetta, been breezing well.

3rd: #1 Phantom Dance, blinkers on for Motion, trend isn’t great.

Race 6: OC$50k 7 & ½F

1st: #1 Celtic Chaos, when Brad Cox ships to Laurel you pay attention. Possibly the hottest trainer in the country, this one registered a couple of wins in New York this summer including a triple digit Beyer and a state-bred stakes win at Saratoga.

2nd: #6 Tybalt, Claudio Gonzalez trainee threw two impressive figures at Delaware at the end of the summer. Looking past his 1-7 record at Laurel as most of the losses came behind Alwaysmining last winter.

3rd: #2 Threes Over Deuces, a definite contender, some of the biggest recent Beyers in the field, always close at the wire.

Race 7: MdClm $16k F&M 2 Years Old 1M

1st: #5 Mayas Miracle, going to assume O’Dwyer can fix whatever went wrong in the last, drop in class doesn’t hurt.

2nd: #1 Grand Entrada, easily the best figures in this field though they came on turf, don’t understand the 10-1ML.

3rd: #8 Princess Anne, consistent, don’t think she has the speed or stamina to win.

Race 8: Clm $10k 7F

1st: #2 Last Chukker, 2 for 2 on the dirt including the last out locally at a class level slightly above this. What more can you want?

2nd: #5 Lacrostix, showed improvement in his first start in the Wayne Potts barn, hoping for more improvement today.

3rd: #1 Jericho Marsh, 0-10 locally, but standardly hits the board or comes close to it at levels above this.

Race 9: MdClm $25k 2 Year Olds 6F

1st: #4 Taskinas, like the improvement upon the switch to dirt in the last, might have some of the only early speed in this weak field.

2nd: #1 Pitching Ari, best figures but not exactly going in the right direction. Running lines don’t inspire confidence but is getting significant class relief.

3rd: #2 Tastes Like Plaid, chart comments mild rally. Not enough speed
