Laurel Park Racing Analysis — Friday, July 10, 2020, by Tom Stoner

Two more winners then the previous week but still not a stellar day by any means. All I can do is keep on swinging.

Best Bet  Race 5  #3 Queen of Tomorrow
Price Play Race 8  #11 Mama’s Grey Ghost

Race 1  2-7-3

#2 Top Hat Scrutiny broke his maiden last time out at this distance in wire to wire fashion after showing no pace in sprints during his career. Trainer Wayne Potts may have figured something out with this guy going 2 turns. I don’t see much other pace signed on here so I think he can go wire to wire again. #7 Haiku comes in second off the lay off for trainer Neil Morris who’s 18% with these types of runners. He was beaten just 3 lengths at this distance last November at a higher level so he must be respected.

Race 2  5-1-2

#5 Determined Mission finished 6th but was beaten less then 5 lengths at this level in her first start since February. She was closing late in her last so the added 1/2 furlong should help and I think there’s enough pace for her to run at. #1 Chicken Dinner doesn’t like to be a winner winner with 5 seconds and 3 thirds here at Laurel in 14 starts. Jockey switch to Centeno may help, must respect.

Race 3  4-7-1

#4 Call Me Plucky was off slow in his debut and finished an ok 3rd in an off the turf slop race to a much the best winner. Trainer Brittney Russell now put him in a protected spot and he gets the turf today.#7 Kendama ran an even 6th in his debut last month. today he gets lasix for Delacour who’s 25% with his first time lasix starters. This is also a slight class drop which may help his chances.

Race 4  12-6-9

#12 Toe Curlin’ Kiss finished 2 1/2 lengths behind the winner last time out at a higher level. 1 for 17 lifetime does concern me but this is this guys lowest level in a long time so that may make the difference. #6 Bats Chance has had the ultimate equipment change (gelded) since his last start back in May. He’s only 1-9 lifetime but it was at this distance and the addition of Centeno should help.

Race 5  3-4-8

#3 Queen of Tomorrow Drop back to the level where she finished third only beaten 1 1/2 lengths back in February. Completely throw out that turf effort first start back off the lay off. Solid work July 3rd is also a positive sign. #4 Bow Maker finished ahead of top selection in that February race but has not raced since. This level certainly fits her but she may need a start under her belt before she wins.

Race 6  8-6-4

#8 Palace Kid drops to the lowest level of his career and ships in from Gulfstream for trainer Claudio Gonzalez who’s 25% with his shippers. He’s shown speed in the past and I really don’t see much speed signed on in here except for second choice #6 Back Charlie who showed speed in his last at this level going two turns. This guy has faced better in his career in NY, must be respected.

Race 7  5-4-3

#5 Day comes in from Delaware and is second off the lay off for trainer Jose Camejo who’s 12% with these type of runners. He’s beaten better at Gulfstream and broke his maiden here albeit 2 years ago. #4 Dirtyfoot drops to the lowest level in his career after a poor effort last time out in his first race since February. The drop certainly should put him right in the mix at the end.

Race 8  11-4-6

#11 Mama’s Grey Ghost ships in from Charlestown and tries the turf for the first time in her career. She’s shown speed in her last 2 starts going two turn on the bull ring and now goes back to one turn. Breeding suggest she’ll like the turf and she could blow up the tote board. #4 Glittering Judy showed a lot of speed last time out just getting caught late in her first start since last September. Now she drops in class and has had two solid works since her last race including a 4F in 47 work on June 27th.

Race 9  7-1-2

#7 Cornetta’s Choice just missed in her last start at a slightly lower level which was her first start since January. She’s had a solid 4F in 48 second work since that effort so she should improve. #1 Patriotic Punch was beaten a neck last time out on the turf in her return to the races after a 6 month break. she now gets back on the dirt at the level she finished second at in January. 0-8 lifetime with 2 seconds and thirds makes me think she’s a hanger so 2nd choice so she’ll have to beat me.

Race 10  6-7-1

#6 I Love You comes into this race third off the lay off for trainer Solomon Sanchez who’s 24% with these type of runners and 29% so far at the meet. She’s won 2 of 3 here at Laurel including a 5 1/2 furlong event and her wire to wire win 2 back at a mile and a 1/16th. She’s getting a big weight break today and I think she has a chance to wire this field. #7 Foggy Dreams just missed at this level and distance last time out which was her first race since January. Certainly should be more fit for this race.

Race 11  2-4-7

#2 In Him With Him has run very consistently at this level over his career but not at two turns. He’s second off the lay off for trainer Damon Dilodovico who’s 24% with these type of runners. 8 seconds in his career at Laurel is a concern but i think there’s enough pace in here for him to close into here. #4 Campari returns to the level where he just missed two starts back after being in over his head in his last start. I repeat of his race 2 back put him in the mix today.

Good Luck
