Gulfstream Park Racing Analysis- Sunday, Jan 12, 2020- By Dennis Trusty

Gulfstream Park Selections & Bets for The Daily Gallop for Sunday December 12th 2020

Weather for Hallandale Beach Florida is 80’s 25% chance for rain

Race 1 Maiden Claiming 25,000 1 Mile and 16th on Turf for 4 Year Olds and Up

1 One More Drink 6-1 not only do I like the name but I also like the horse! With jockey Nik Juarez aboard trying first-time turf out of Stay Thirsty (dirt router) and Twining mare also was a dirt type horse, which doesn’t sound good for turf. But on the sire numbers according to Brisnet match his dirt numbers which I think is okay. The keys to this horse are the fact of lone speed possibility, and first time in for 25,000 after 2 races for 40,000 which I think is going to help him.

8 Sugartown Kid 5-2 first time starter for Michael Matz, with Irad Ortiz on which is interesting for a trainer who is 8% 1st time starters. Out of Lemon Drop Kid which to me is more of a turf sire but Cherokee Run to me is more of a dirt sprinter and is a May foal which is why I think this horse shows up for the 25,000 today. But Matz is also 8-2-2-2 at Gulfstream has been working slow stamina works to go this long which is why Matz is an 8% first time starter trainer because he takes his time.

5 Brahe 7-2 the only thing I really like about him is dropping in from 75,000 maiden claiming to now 25,000, and they know this horse likes turf since all 3 races have been on the lawn. Barclay Tagg owns and trains this 4 year old out of Seville(GER), and I know many people think he is a good trainer I think he is just average nothing wrong with that just I am not a fan. Chris Landeros rides well in these situations and has yet to get a win at Gulfstream, could do it here he is surely desperate!

Selections 1-8-5

Bets $2 win and place 1($4)

Race 2 Open 12,500 Claimers Going 6 Furlongs on the Dirt for 4 Year Olds and Upward.

2 Ray’swarrior 3-2 3 races ago was in for 50,000 optional with no tag after winning a 75,000 stakes race at Monmouth. Then went in for 12,500 tag and got claimed came back for the same amount and got claimed again. This horse is going to be favorite I am sure of it especially with a trainer 29% off the claim and having a 4-2-2-0 record at Gulfstream should be extremely tough here and might even be a worthy single if you were playing a smaller pick 4, or pick 5.

7 Mr Atila 7-2 the horse I really think could upset the 2 horse here. Off the claim from a 4 month layoff from Joseph Saffie Jr barn to Navarro, who is 24% off the claim. He previously trained this horse didn’t do too well with the horse but that was for a higher-class level than today. Ran for 12,500 last time and ran against 2 next out winners both the horses that beat him and I love that angle, cause once there isn’t the monster(s) you become the monster.

5 Black Pepper 9-2 got beat by ¾ to the 2 horse last time out but lacked a rail bid and was constantly losing ground and was never going to make it up I don’t think. I think with Irad coming back into the saddle you have to respect him but I just don’t think that he can turn the table on the 2. Also likes Gulfstream has a record of 12-3-1-4 so horse for course maybe.

Selections 2-7-5

Bets $1 exacta 2,7-1,2,5,7($6)

Race 3 Maiden Claiming 20,000 Going 7 ½ Furlongs on the Turf for 4 Year Olds & Up

6 Winning Factor 10-1 as a 2 year old ran as a speed and fade horse on the grass at Saratoga, which in my opinion is the toughest races besides stakes races. Apparently got hurt and went to Finger Lakes on dirt and being out of The Factor and First Samurai the horse doesn’t like dirt but has a ton of speed and has lost all his major talent is why he ends up here. Positives he likes turf and has speed and is dropping way down in class worth a look here.

5 Hard Count 4-5 it’s Maker and Irad Ortiz on a drop-in class from MSW to back to MC and I just threw out that last race. This is the horse to beat here but it isn’t impossible to do so because like I said before couldn’t win at one point 35,000 and even though it isn’t 20,000 it is so close especially when maidens. I rank them as MSW to Maiden Claiming 75,000-50,000 to 40,000 to 20,000 and then 15,000 to 10,000 to any lower is bottom. So, in my range I don’t expect much difference.

8 Siesta Moon 6-1 he belongs in for 20,000 both times was in for 20,000 was bet down and ran decent races on grass or dirt didn’t’ matter this is his class level. Like I said about the 5 was in for 35,000 and lost only 1 length on the class raise and one position. I think if the 6 scratches that would be the bet is the 8 horse at 6-1.

Selections 6-5-8

Bets $2 win place 6,8($8) $1 exacta 5-6,8,9($3) (side note the 9 is just in the numbers sequence I sometimes play with a big favorite if I like the outside horses to him I throw in the outside horse. If I like the inside I just throw in the inside runner.)

Race 4 Maiden Special Weight for Fillies 3 Year Old Going 6 Furlongs Dirt

8 Prairie Wings 3-1 she was sold to Shadwell for a big 800,000 being out of Tapit and Sadlers Well mare. She never raced was sold for, get this 2,100,000!!!! And she never raced right she has thrown 6 foals and everyone has been sold for 6 figures besides one, and none have made the races. This is the first one! Has been working a weird tab to me slow(stamina)-average-fast(speed) and it confuses me is the horse slow, want to go long, or fast, or want to go short? 800,000 is nothing to ignore at all but for 6 furlongs on dirt isn’t the spot where I would have put her, I would be routing on turf!

1 Motivated Seller 7-2 might be a motivated winner for Klaravich Stables and Chad Brown. I don’t like the rail for her in her first time out, but she has talent! Into Mischief and Empire Maker mare and the mare has had 2 wins from 2 starters and 3 horses thrown and one never made the track. She was a turf horse but has dirt pedigree horse was working steady for Saratoga and then something happened went off for 5 months then eased back into working. Has good breeding for a race like this and worth a chance with those connections!

5 She Throws Heat 10-1 Shug McGaughey with an Honor Code, and an More Than Ready mare working decently watch the tote board(binocular emjoi). I don’t like Shug in these spots normally, but he knows how to get these Honor Codes to tic. And when they tic they really tic! The mare has thrown 4 all have

seen the track and ehhh I wouldn’t be putting out 200,000 like they did. 3 have done really bad and one did decent but not even really that well. Might need a race before I can say go for it but is a must use underneath and if you just wanted to gamble on trainer and sire then go for it.

Selections 8-1-5

Bets $1 exacta 1,8-1,2,5,7,8($8)

Race 5 Claiming 30,000 N/2L for 4 Year Olds & Up Going 5 Furlongs on Turf

5 Wonder In 2-1 first time in for a tag and has been bet every time besides first time out last two races have been rough but hung in there in toughness. I like Rob Lapenta as an owner and this horse on paper looks best in my opinion.

1 Kid Forester 6-1 I don’t normally like Woodbine shippers. But when I do, they are normally dropping in class a little bit and getting a good jockey. Dropping from 40,000 allowance optional to claiming 30,000 and getting Tyler Gaffalione. I don’t really like the running style look for this horse to make a middle move and might try to hang on for a piece of something.

3 By the Sey Shore 5-2 ran a good first time on turf and if he improves like most 2nd time turf horses do will be right there with Luis Saez. He is in poor form recently is my only major concern and seems to not be as good as the connections thought.

Selections 5-1-3

Bets $1 exacta box 1,5 3,5($4)

Race 6 Maiden Special for 3 Year Old Fillies going 1 Mile on Dirt

2 Spice is Nice 7-2 Kentucky Oaks horse anyone, anyone? The spice is nice with this one being out of Dame Dorothy a multiple G1 winner and the sire is Curlin. Celebrity Chef Bobby Flay bred her and sold her for 1,050,000 at Keeneland and I LOVE the workouts. Fast fast and then last one easy slow. I looked up on xbtv.com worked out with a horse that ran Saturday in race 1 named Silver Ratio and she never let him go by and that’s impressive.

8 Loaded 3-1 has ran 2 hard trying 2nd’s in 2 career starts, got beat by a next out winner named Turtle Trax and she ran 5th in a G2 stakes at Churchill. Out of Ghostzapper and Indian Charlie mare so should like the distance. Was a 250,000 dollar purchase price at Keeneland and I think could have a legit chance here.

7 Jeweled Princess 5-2 got beat by the 8 first time out drawn wide the first two starts now in the middle seems like a pretty good horse for Kenny McPeek and Irad Ortiz gets on for the first time! Prime power numbers have her 8 points ahead of the 2nd picked horse (that’s the 8).

Selections 2-8-7

Bets $3 win & place 2($6)

Race 7 Claiming N/2L 30,000 for 4 Year Olds and Up 1 Mile Turf

1 Saltking 6-1 New York bred owned by Madaket Stables was going 1 1/8th and I don’t think that is the distance he wants, his only win was going 1 mile. I like the small drop in for 30,000 shows me they are trying to win for the Mark Henning trainee. Quite a few speed horses in here could get a nice setup.

3 Sir Seamus 9-2 2nd off the claim for Mike Maker is 19%. Last time out was rained off the turf and they ran him anyway, hopped start for a speed horse is doom. This time with a better break and Irad Ortiz on could be in the fight nearing the end of the race.

7 Justcallmenorman 7-2 barely missed last time for the same kind of condition only 5,000 more, and since the claim has been in good form. Now gets blinkers on today should help him focus in and go by late unlike last time. I don’t know if he can by late but just might.

Selection 1-3-7

Bets $2 win & $6 show 1($8)

Race 8 Allowance Optional 75,000 Going 6 Furlongs on Dirt for 3 Year Old Fillies

5 Aunt Nadine 3-1 Jorge Navarro trains her and she fought them off last time didn’t improve just did enough to win the race and that could be the case today. I don’t like Rajiv Maragh but I think he fits this horse well and that is the main thing, go with what works. Out of Munnings and Dixie Union which screams dirt sprint speed.

6 Mandamus 9-5 hello again Jorge welcome back Jorge Navarro trains the favorite as well and this is her first start in the barn. I don’t think she will improve much but she again just like the 5 has to just stay the same. If I was betting this race, I think the 6 is the better horse but the 5 is the better price and I think both could win the race.

2 Kimura 6-1 beat the 6 in their first career start in July but I think these are now 2 different horses. The 2 came out of her maiden to try stakes and ran poorly in both now in for a more logical spot, but what I say about 2 year old that break their maiden early and go right into stakes either their trainer doesn’t have faith in the horse and try to get the money now, OR the horse is really good and they win the stakes race. People don’t remember but Justify ran in a N/2L before trying stakes races.

Selections 5-6-2

Bets $1 exacta 5,6-2,3,5,6($6)

Race 9 Claiming Open 16,000 5 Furlongs on Turf for 4 Year Old’s & Up

4 Blue Chip Prospect 6-1 this New Jersey bred loves the turf with 13-3-4-4 record going a distance of 5 furlongs on the grass. I hope he sits 3rd and pounces on them with Jairo Rendon aboard and Jane Cibelli

trains and has placed him perfect every single race. Always giving this horse a chance with the conditions she puts him in.

7 New York’s Finest 7-2 ran in the claiming crown at Gulfstream and I like using these horses next time in for a tag which is today. Only time in for 12,500 won, was in for 25,000 and other allowance races. Either this horse fires or doesn’t do anything since 18-7-0-0 record speaks that for itself.

9 Krsto Skye 3-1 Paco Lopez gets off of both of my horses above to ride him for Robert Hess. I don’t know what the reason is because I don’t like how this horse really looks but because Paco chose it over the ones above I have to throw it on the list. Maybe the drop-in class has him at these odds.

Selections 4-7-9

Bets $2 win place 4($4)

Race 10 Allowance 62,500 for 4 Year Old Fillies & Mares Going 6 and ½ Furlongs on the Dirt

5 Unholy Alliance 7-2 they took this horse away from Brad Cox and she got extremely worse so Joseph Saffie needs to get her to start running. I think she is a talented horse just needs to get out of her own head maybe the 3rd off the lay off and route to sprint could fix her. Also dropping in from G3 back to allowance could help as well.

4 Feedback 6-5 off an April layoff where she ran for G3 and she won a G3 at Gulfstream for Chad Brown. This is obviously a prep race for something coming up soon she is impressive I just think she needs a race before taking her seriously, but worth the 6-5 price.

3 Boujie Girl 9-2 I don’t know what Correas did to get her to start running but then they sold her for 175,000. Sf Racing I am sure they wanted her for breeding but then decided to run her one more year maybe missed breeding season or something like that and was just like go for it. She ran average in California had potential but never got it going and then came to Kentucky and wow she did awesome probably bumped her sale price up a few tens of thousands.

Selections 5-4-3

Bets $3 win place 5($6)

Race 11 Claiming 30,000 N/2L for 4 Year Old’s & Up Going 1 Mile on Turf

5 War Feather 15-1 showed speed last time for the first time ever and really ran well might sit in a stalking trip or go right to the front again. Has War Front breeding on the back end and that means turf maybe this horse wanted to go to the front two races ago and and they didn’t let him. And I love the price!

6 Vegas Kitten 4-1 first time in for a claiming tag for Maker and Ramsey and started out really decent and then just something never panned out for him. I think it shows his potential because not been gelded and was trained by Chad Brown that’s how much Ramsey believed in him. Hasn’t ran since April which is my only concern.

8 Preacher Power 5-2 barely missed for 40,000 at Churchill then tried dirt and now back on the grass which I like being out of Lonhro. Javier Castellano hops on for Eddie Kenneally.

Selection 5-6-8

Bets $2 win & $6 show 5($8)

Total $71 good luck to everyone out there playing!
