Friday January 3rd, 2020

8 race card, 12:45 first post. Race 3 is the third of the Stronach 5

Race 1 – 5F MC 5000

#2 Marinos Law (5/2) has good early speed and might get away from this field. This maiden has 5 seconds and 5 thirds in 13 starts. The favorite is on the outside #6 Ivorian (7/5) and Frank Alvarado. Never hit the board but dropping in from maiden 20,000. #4 Chief Eagle Eye (3/1) last ran in July but has good works coming in and might flash some early foot. Look for #5 Bub (12/1) to possibly be on the board with closing kick off the lay off.

2-6-5-4

Race 2 – 1 1/16 Miles CLM 12,500

Competitive 5 horse field. I’ll go with #2 Streetlightromance (9/2) who seems to always be running late. Been in the money 5 of the last 6 including 2 wins. Has split the last 2 with #4 Buttie (3/1) and leading rider Juan Hernandez. Expect this one to be near the front of this small field. Favorites #1 It’s Alexus (2/1) and #3 Side Effect (9/5) both hoping the class drop will help and should be forwardly placed as well.

2-4-3-1

Race 3 – 5 1/2 F ALW 50000

Jonathan Wong (20%) sends out #5 Kiana’s Love (9/5) who has ran all 4 races on the turf. Working well on the tapeta and has lots of early speed. Expect this one to be ready. #4 Morning Cynn (5/2) comes into this off an impressive maiden win and has Hernandez in the irons, also has early punch so could get interesting up front. #2 Starza (6/1) might get a perfect set up if there is a pace duel, has been in the money 9/14.

5-2-4

Race 4 – 5 1/2 F CLM 8000

#2 Flynn (7/5) looks to make it 4 in a row since arriving at Golden Gate. Has wasted no time jumping to an early lead and has not looked back in the previous 3 starts, Catalino Martinez up for the first time. #3 Arno’s Mane Man (7/2) ran a solid second last out at the same level, should sit just off the pace and make a run at the favorite late. #7 Going Away Party (9/2) should press the pace from the outside but not sure if fast enough to keep up.

2-3-7

Race 5 – 1 1/16 Miles CLM 20000

#3 Lady Phyllis 7/2) has been a very consistent runner on the turf lately. Has one win on the tapeta last April in wire to wire fashion. Look for a repeat of that performance with the lack of speed in this short field. #2 Splashing (2/1) is one of two Tamayo (20%) trainees and has a good closing run. Look to be closer up and could have best kick late. #1 Hurley (8/5) has 2 wins but both on turf. Has best class but go against.

3-2-1

Race 6 – 6F CLM 16000

#5 Kelly (9/5) and Juan Hernandez are coming off a third place finish following back to back wins. Should be close up if not on a lonely lead. #2 Lucky Antares (2/1) drops in for the tag after a disappointing performance last out. Look for a late run with Alvarado up. #3 Exactamente (10/1) has some good efforts on the tapeta. The 7 year old has been in the money 34 times in 56 starts. Like at a price.

5-3-2

Race 7 – 6F CLM 40000

#7 Left Alone (7/5) has good tactical speed and should sit a good trip from the outside. Is 4 for 8 on the tapeta with 2 seconds and will be tough to beat. #2 Spanish Magic (5/1) off the layoff has some good works and should show speed from the inside post. #4 The Spiral Jetter (8/5) is coming off a fourth place finish in the $75K Bear Fan. Expect this one to be running late.

2-7-4

Race 8 – 1 Mile CLM 12500

I like the Steve Miyadi trained and Gary Barber owned pair. First is #3 Sweet Boy (5/2), 2/2 at Golden Gate and Kevin Krigger should send straight to the front. #7 Unstoppable Guy (7/2) comes in off of a maiden score and should be close to the pace. #2 Pivo (2/1) for Jonathan Wong and #6 Kona Skye (4/1) for William Delia (21%) are both dropping in class and expect to be in the mix.
