Fair Grounds – Sunday, November 25, 2018
Looking forward to keeping the momentum going – and perhaps pulling a couple double digit winners. Multiple statebred races, a really nice 2 yr. grass sprint, and a few so competitive they could go any way – type races. Lastly, an opportunity to reference A Streetcar Named Desire and Fair Grounds…you can’t get better than that….
Race 1: 4 – 5 – 1
Diva’s Ransom, hit rock bottom last out off the 3 month layoff. Opened up while leading, help place by a good margin. Light work pattern suggests she was short. Wheels right back – should open up again. Recency gives edge. Lucky Sumer, goes for 3rd straight – but across a 5 month period – so maintains ability to compete given race conditions. Should sit the trip and gather in the place. Southern Wind back to conditioned claimer, recent form suggests can complete the tri.
Race 2: 5 – 1 – 2
Going to discount all the older fillies/mares (as they are NW3L) and go with 3 yr. olds with form and recency. Brad Cos enters a pair – either can take this: going with the up and comer – Pugilist steps up off the win and claim, real nice works leading to this – returns quick dividends. Big Blue Magic takes significant drop, goes favored, places. Aubrey had been keeping better company, last at the level – a win.
Race 3: 7 – 5 – 4
Girls Life, comes from a winning barn, who claimer her back, (always worth noting when a barn takes one back) does well at the level, protected last out while pointing for this. Nola Fashion reunites with Pedroza who rode her to a 3rd here earlier in the year, at a much higher class. Dropper coming off mini vacation, runs well fresh. Pam’s Meadow repeat of her last should get her a share.
Race 4: 7 – 6 – 1
Slimey – name aside, this filly looks formidable on the cutback, blinkers come off. In a race filled with fillies who just go-go, this filly should pick them up late. Recent work sharpened speed, keeps her close enough. Noble Love steady works, cuts back for return – should be right there. Reflected, tops this on pedigree, a repeat of the career bow puts her in the mix, toss last out in slop.
Race 5: 4 – 2 – 3
Tempted to jump on the one of the many droppers, but will go with the recency angle, Cookies Are Good – popped when returned to FG, claimed, steps up, wheels right back. Loves FG. Flatter the Queen, likes the track, nice work the other day, high percentage barn. Cordero, out since May, plummets in class, suspicious break in work pattern from June to Sept. – working consistently since. Sprint a question, may take this, not betting on it.
Race 6: 8 – 2 – 9
Going back to the Sharp barn again, Fast Boat, claimed out of NY NW2L – drops a bit – though sometimes drops in conditioned claimers are an illusion – best grass races are two turns. Sits, gets first jump. Vincitore seems to require time between each race, should be competitive here off improving figures. Dr. Baskin – stretches out for top barn. Connections make him a must-use.
Race 7: 3 – 7 – 9
Rogueish top fift out sire, top barn, several works over the track. Odds helped by those with experience. Soap Bubble will be finishing, should like the FG long stretch. Noble Companion, another top barn, with solid works coming in. Like the post.
Race 8: 3 – 7 – 4
Psalmody caps big day for the Sharp barn. Works the inside trip, should be flying off the cutback. La Dame Blanche, for every Streetcar fan out there – we’re in New Orleans after all. Undefeated on grass, at the distance. The Craic, always right there on the grass, two nice works to prepare.
Race 9: 7 – 4 – 1 – 1A
Itsthebourbontalkn goes gate to wire, must be feeling good, as wheels right back in a week for the win. Reigning Warrior closes consistently, couple of maintenance works since his last. Flashy Em / Ms. D’s Last Storm – both coming off brief layoffs, either capable of completing the tri.
