Race 1 – Six horse field of time restricted $5,000 claiming gals kick off the Saturday night festivities. 5- Sugar Candy Rose projects to be the outside pressing speed and should get the run of the race. 2- Brews Toonie Toss has been disappointing her last two since shipping from Woodbine. Carries in the most consistent form and speed figures, but we don’t suggest taking too short of a price on this unreliable sort. 4- Twirling Princess has been freshen up for this effort and should bounce back today hitting the board.
Race 2 – 1- Munchies has been impressive in his last three over the Turfway poly. Nice post to sit a cozy pocket trip just off the speed. Fits on speed figures and projected race flow. 2- Tenacious Sally was an open length winner last out on 2/15. That blowout win could be a sign this one is rounding into top form. Solid 5 for 10 lifetime record at Turfway. 7- Holy Cookie is a deep closer that will likely need a fast pace to develop but could hit the board.
Race 3 – Nice full field makes for a good betting race. 9- Wolf Man Rocket rallied for third last time going 5.5 furlongs. Think the 6.5 furlongs will hit him right between the eyeballs. This closer will get some pace to run at too. 6- Northern Ranger cuts back from a mile to a one turn race which should fit this guy better. Projects to be on or near the lead. And speed horses cutting back is a productive handicapping angle. 3- U S Citizen was second against similar last time and should be right there again today under a top jockey Prescott.
Race 4 – 6- Mr. Haire, hopefully Franklin will take him back early, let him settle, and then make one run late to mow ‘em down. Has pace to run at. 3- Double Deringer is a mid-pack pressing type that should get first run on the deep closers. One of this guys better efforts is capable of winning this race. 7- Copus should be in good outside pressing position and have every chance to win it if good enough.
Race 5 – 2- Fred’s Country Boy was a surprising 11+ length maiden winner last time while going out first time for the Livers barn. Seemingly versatile type can track or set the pace and should still have enough to punch home on top. 4- Five Arches was a well rated maiden winner last time under Franklin. Love playing horses sent out by this barn. This one also is a win threat. 8- Let’s Ride is 1 for 27 lifetime but has proven consistent at this level and is a must use underneath in exotics.
Race 6 – 6- Snow Blossom has been second in her last at this level with one against the boys. Along with the consistency at the level we like the early speed this one shows. Top rider. Lots to like. Goes as the days best. 2- Etsuko completes our exacta. This barn does especially well at Turfway dropping maiden horses from special weight company to claiming races. Will need to turn around the form drastically to be a win threat to the 6.
Race 7 – 2- Man of Blues drops from $8,000 company to $5,000 today for high winning percentage connections in Prescott and Hammond. Projects to get a nice trip from the 2 post. 5- Takin the Sloroad was a big winner two back and a repeat of that race wins. Not sure what to make of the last effort, but if this one rebounds to the two back race it’s a big win threat. 1- Beach Hut should set the pace stretching out and we’ll bet he hangs around late to hit the board underneath.
Race 8 – Very hard and wide open race to close out the day. These bottom level maiden claimers are not reliable and chaos could ensue. If you can afford an all in this race in your late multi race bets, we advise that strategy. 1- Discreesita has been speed and fade is her last few efforts. Blinkers go on for the hot Edgell barn. We’ll hope this one gets the lead and takes the last wire to wire. 10- Lady Creed hit the board in her last two at the level and figures. Same form profile for our third pick 11- E Z Bonus. We have the 10 slightly ahead because of the turnback in distance will help her stamina late.
