Turfway Park Racing Analysis — Friday, December 27, 2019, by Patrick Deeley

Turfway 12/27/2019

I hope y’all had a very merry Christmas and a happy holiday but I have been hearing the whispers and they have been saying “Pat is Ice cold.” That may or may not be correct but I am very in tune with the weather and since we have been cold in Kentucky my picks haven’t been great. Now that its starting to warm up a little bit we will be ready to rock and roll. Also if the Cards lose to the Cats, y’all will see a grown man cry.

P.S. Horses I give description on will be used in multi-race wages.

Race 1

7500 MCL 1 mile

Picks: 2-8-1

So this seems to be a two horse race and after that well explore what we can use underneath. #2 Sofia’s Slugger is the ML favorite at 9-5 and there is good reason why. It appears that he is the only early speed in this race and should be able to get the lead easily and if he doesn’t receive any pressure on the back tretch then he’ll probably get trip needed to win. If he gets worn down then watch for #8 Jackpot Kitten. Jackpot Kitten in his one outing showed that Maker valued his horse well with this tag and if he can get a quick early pace then he might be able to pick up a late running win. However I favor the 2 to hold on.

Race 2

Clm 5000 5.5 furlongs

Picks: 5-9-7-6

#5 Starof Distinction looking for a price here at ML 8-1 and if she gets away clear and is in it early then she will likely stay in it with a chance to cash. #9 Champagne Bling is a horse that has been running around this class but is not dropping into a 5k race and loves this distance.

Race 3

7500 MCL 1 1/16 Miles

Picks: 2-4-10

#2 Barton Hall I’m going to ignore her last race and look at her last three prior to that where she has three gaining thirds at a higher class. I expect her too improve with the lesser class. #4 Abstain this horse has done best at the lesser tracks and will be dropping to her lowest level, expect her to be involved early to get a piece of the action late. #10 Platinum Gale I think this horse has shown potential to do something in this race but will have to improve and hopefully hold on late. She seems to take to this distance and doesn’t hate Turfway either.

Race 4

Clm 7500N3L

Picks: 2-3-5-7

#2 Shorely, In race that is for horses that have not won 3 times in their life, this horse has crossed the wire first 4 times getting DQed twice. This horse clearly knows how to win and if he can avoid trouble he should get his 3rd win today. #3 Hooray for Harvey runs well in these ranks and has had some success at an even higher class so expect him to vie for the early lead and try to hold on to it. #5 Midland is dropping in class coming from Alw company at Mountaineer, well see how that class stacks up against KY competition but he should also be involved.

Race 5

MSW 1 Mile

Picks: 13-3-4-6

#3 Kertara seems as though she will appreciate a little extra distance and her eve running style could allow her to wear down early runners. #4 Seagal is an AP filly that had some struggles in her last out with a slow start that hurt her chases. Look for her to get out clean and settle in a make an impressive move down the stretch. #6 Yellen is a Wesley Ward filly that likes to shoot out of a cannon, typical. She will probably set the pace and I’m not sure if she has what it take s to hold on. #13 Fashion Code could be another Asmussen superstar, the unraced filly has been drilling bullets for workouts and could wreck havoc on this field.

Race 6

MSW 1 Mile

Picks:8-4-7-5-10

#4 Attuck could be well meant for this race, his last race he struggled with a bad trip so look for him to go anything less than 8 wide and he could contend at a price. #5 King of Fortune has been hitting the board but failed last out as the favorite, which always gives me some pause. The distance might have been a little much for him coupled with a wide trip so look for this horse to be in the first back maybe sit 4th before making his winning bid. #7 English Challenge will following the same path as the 5 but might be a little stronger in the close to home. #8 Red Sorrell, not sure what to make of this horse as its been all over the board but just cant push through. Maybe this is the one for him and for that reason with all that talent I can’t leave him out. #10 Loving Movement loves this distance but has failed to live up to his price multiple times, use but sparingly.

Race 7

OC 40k/N2X 1 Mile

Picks: 1-12-9

#1 True Dream loves this distance and is 1 for 1 here at Turfway, also McPeek is having a heck of a meet. With a drop in class and some early runners to aid in a fast pace she looks to have the ability. #9 Call Me Kayla she’s been slowly dropping in class and it appears to be working with improving results, I’d be shocked if she is on the board. #12 Coco Channel is by far the class of this race with a bunch of stakes tries but hasn’t won this year so that has me a little concerned. She will try to take this race from the get go and we will have to see if she can hold of the pressure from Kayla and the late runners.

Race 8

Clm 5000 6f

Picks: 12-6-4

#12 News Box, single if you are trying to save some money here because this horse has been all over the and the only other option for competition I see is #6 Stately Oak
