Stakes Preview: G3 Go For Wand Stakes, Saturday, December 7, 2019, by Andrew Rdesinski

I think this race lacks early pace but the heavy ML favorite probably will be on the lead early. I like a different horse than the main favorite but only if the price is right. Find out who down below. Good Luck to all!

  1. Needs Supervision – Jose Ortiz- Jeremiah O’Dwyer

Jose Ortiz ships back north to ride today and rides this one for O’Dwyer. Early on in her career she showed some early pace but mostly came off the pace. This is her first time in New York, and she seems to be getting into her best form yet. I think it will be a real test for her but she is training lights out coming into the last race but she also just ran last weekend so it will be a lot in a small amount of time. Will have to pass but will use underneath.

  1. Espresso Shot- Manuel Franco- Jorge Abreu

Espresso Shot is coming into this race from restricted New York stakes races which means she will have to jump up in class quite a bit. She loves the 1 turn mile and especially at Aqueduct. She has won one stake at this distance that was a nonrestricted race but that wasn’t as big as it is today. I think she will need a complete pace meltdown and she needs to get her way in order to win.

  1. Spiced Perfection- Javier Castellano- Peter Miller

The most likely favorite and rightfully so. She is the most accomplished and dropping in out of G1 and G2 races in which she has won at both class rankings respectfully. She should be on the lead early but she might sit which gives the option to other longer priced horses to try and steal it. Javier has ridden her in her 2 biggest races which resulted in wins in the Madison(Grade 1 at Keenland) and the TCA(Grade 2 at Keenland). Horse to beat.

  1. Another Broad- Eric Cancel- Todd Pletcher

She is coming into this race off of a career effort in a Grade 3 at Aqueduct around a month ago. She did not win that race but she just missed Golden Award who is a legitimate filly. I think Another Broad is finally getting into form for her 3yo campaign after having a stellar 2yo campaign. If this is the case she has a chance to beat the heavy favorite in Spiced Perfection to the inside of her. I think depending on price, she will be the horse I play in this race.

  1. Saguaro Row- Joel Rosario- Michael Stidham

Joel Rosario gets the mount today after getting the return mount last time out resulting in a stake at Aqueduct a month ago. She will be closing late and with the lack of pace duel early I don’t see him getting the right set up. However, She is coming into form nicely right now, and Rosario is the best with timing his trips so if anything up front does fall apart he will be picking up the pieces. Must use underneath.

  1. Our Super Nova- Junior Alvarado- Charlton Baker

Another horse coming out of restricted races and also coming into the race in good form. However, the lack of class here makes me look at other places. Junior will have to get this horse going late or she won’t run. She seems to be a one paced horse in which she can hang late down the stretch. I will have to fade this horse.
