Vosburgh G1
Race Analysis: By Vinny Blond (@PicksByDynasty)
A field of 6 are lined up for the 6F G1 Vosburgh which for a few of these runners looks to be their final prep race before the Breeders Cup. While this field is missing multiple G1 winner Mitole who at the moment is on top of the Sprint Division this year, the field is not lacking talent. Without further rambling lets get into the contenders.
Post 1: Call Paul – 3 year old trained by Jason Servis and the jockey today is Manny Franco.
Call Paul is coming in off a 6th place finish in G1 H Allen Jerkens at Saratoga on the Travers undercard where in the early stages of the race he attempted to go toe to toe with heavily favored Shancelot who ended up losing a 3 way photo and who will likely be one of the top betting choices in the Santa Anita Sprint Championship next time out. Call Paul has shown speed in pretty much every career start and this 6f distance should be right in his wheelhouse. He is facing a tough group of older horses for the first time today and I think he would need a dream trip to win. I am tossing this one today but look for tis one to skip the Breeders Cup and race again in New York before the year is done.
Post 2: American Power – 4 year old trained by Linda Rice and the jockey today is Jose Ortiz.
American Power is making his stakes debut today riding a 3 race winning streak against much lesser, but I think he is a very live longshot in this race if he gets the right pace scenario in front of him. He has proven in his career that he loves this 6F distance and with his late kick he has a shot if the pace collapses. Jose already has made a trip to the winner’s circle riding this one and he does have a win at Belmont in his career. Personally, I think if you’re looking for a bomb to play in this race that American Power is the best choice out of the big 3 but I wouldn’t bet the farm on him. I may key underneath in exacta’s and trifectas and hope Jose can get this one up for a piece at a price.
Post 3: Brown Buckeye – 6 year old trained by Anthony Quartarolo and the jockey today is Jose A Bracho.
I hate to say that Brown Buckeye is in over his head as I am a big fan of owner Ron Paolucci (@LooochRacing) , but he is in way over his head. Yes, he is coming off a nice state bred stakes win last time out and was given a 95 Beyer for the race but he has never faced horses like these. He will be forced to run early against Promises Fulfilled who is on his outside and Call Paul who is on his inside. If Jose Bracho sits him back early, he will be running near Imperial Hint. If he can put any of those horses, I named away I will be shocked. The only way I would use this one is on the bottom of Trifectas where you are using ALL in the 3rd spot.
Post 4: Imperial Hint – 6 year old trained by Luis Carvajal Jr. and the jockey today is Javier Castellano.
The defending champion of this race was 0-3 since until setting a track record in the G1 Vanderbilt at Saratoga where he gave a monster performance and handing Mitole his first and only loss of 2019. Now I don’t think it is reasonable to think Imperial Hint is going to run a race like that again as he was given a 114 Beyer for that effort which is huge, but I do think he can run another triple digit Beyer here against this field. This is his 2nd start off the layoff from Dubai and with the pace scenario that should be in front of him I don’t see any reason why he can’t stalk and pounce again like he did in the Vanderbilt. Major win contender here but at the price we are going to see on him by post time he is a single or toss. If you like him single him, if you have doubts toss him as he will be sub 3/5 in my opinion coming off that 114 Beyer.
Post 5: Promises Fulfilled – 4 year old trained by Dale Romans and the jockey today is Luis Saez.
As a big fan of Promises Fulfilled 2019 has been frustrating to say the least. In 3 of his 4 North American starts this year he has run into Mitole who is just having one of those years. Well Mitole is not here today and his lone win this year came here at Belmont without him so I think Promises Fulfilled is playable today. I love today that he is outside speed which is where he was when he won the G2 John A. Nerud back on July 6th. If Imperial Hint bounces off that big effort last time out I think Promises Fulfilled is the best of the speed and can steal this one on the front end. I will be using this one on all of my tickets as the likely 2nd choice.
Post 6: Firenze Fire – 4 year old trained by Jason Servis and the jockey today is Irad Ortiz Jr.
I have never been a huge fan of Firenze Fire but with a career record of 3 wins in 4 starts at Belmont and 3 wins in 5 starts at this 6f distance he commands respect here. He does his best running when he can stalk a pace like Imperial Hint and I think Call Paul is only in this race to be a rabbit for him. Both are trained by Servis and without Call Paul there would be no horse in here to stick with Promises Fulfilled early. If the speed duel happens Firenze Fire loves this track and should be finding his best strides in the stretch.
Top Pick: Promises Fulfilled
2nd Choice: Imperial Hint
3rd Choice: American Power
