Santa Anita Park Racing Analysis — Friday, June 7, 2019, by Paul Hundley

RACE 1: 5-7-1
We start the day going one mile on the turf in this Cal Bred MSW for Fillies and Mares. 5-OUR ROMANCE debuted on turf last out and was a mid pack 5th after a rough trip and placed 4th. Now stretching out to one mile and getting 7lb apprentice Jorge Velez today, who has ridden very well so far and is 40% out of 30 starts aboard Early speed types. Trainer Phil D’Amato is 19% second time turf. 7-Goodtingscominpink has a third and second at this level in first two turf starts at 1 mile distance and is the probable favorite today. 1-Y Not Sizzle ran almost 4 lengths behind 2nd choice last out while finishing 3rd for 3rd time in 3 races. Has closed into really fast paces last two so not sure she has a pace that helps today or possibly the slower pace may help.

RACE 2: 3-4
3-ALFAREED is going turf to dirt for Jeff Bonde(22%) and drops from $25K level plus upgrades to Kent Desormeaux today. Last time on conventional dirt won by almost 4 lengths breaking maiden. 4-Topgallant comes in off a 3 1/2 month layoff and will be coming from way back in here. Dan Hendricks 6 of last 24 off long layoffs.

RACE 3: 2-3
2-TAKE A LEAP ran 2nd vs this level two back trapped in between a bunch of starter allowance races. Both her career wins came on the Santa Anita turf at today’s distance. 3-Twirling Apples drops from Optional Claimers back into today’s level, which she nearly won at on the downhill last October. Hasn’t been seen in 7 months which is why I’m wanting to see a race here from her.

RACE 4: 1-3
1-BABY ICE has been facing tougher but this will be the five year old mare’s first time trying two turns. However this field isn’t the toughest and am looking for a gate to wire job today. 3-Duranga more than likely goes as the favorite and deservedly so winning 2 of her last 3. However is 0 for 3 routing.

RACE 5: 8-9-4

RACE 6: 1-6

RACE 7: 7-4-10
7-FLYING TO THE LINE has not been on turf yet in 3 career starts, though they tried to get her on turf in her last before rain took it off. Always like when connections bring a horse like this right back to try turf again. Peter Miller is 17% first turf and 25% second off the layoff.  4-Miss Indefatigable is a FTS, also from the Miller barn. He’s 17% with FTS, and the Dam is a perfect 6 for 6 with her racing progeny, including 3 turf winners. 10-Successful Ruler needs s scratch to draw in but should she will be very dangerous. Nearly won last out in turf debut and switches to Bejarano today.

RACE 8: 5-2-1
We close out the day with two year old fillies going five furlongs, with only two in here having raced. 5-NONE OF YOUR BIZ is a FTS by Fed Biz, who was a very talented horse in the Bob Baffert barn the earlier part of this decade and was thought of to be even more talented than Kentucky Derby Runner Up Bodemeister, though he never proved it on the track. NONE OF YOUR BIZ is trained by Brian Koriner, who’s an okay 13% w/FTS, 21% with MSW. Her Dam is a perfect 6 for 6 with her runners winning, though should be pointed out none at the age of 2. Her work pattern is solid, and jockey Aaron Gryder having a good year. 2-Kissable U is also a FTS from Doug O’Neill and is another Square Eddie sired horse that has become commonplace in the two time Kentucky Derby Winning Trainer’s barn. SE hits 17% w/FTS and the O’Neill/Martin Garcia combo hitting 6 of last 20 races together. 1-Takes A Village is s FTS coming in off a bullet work and the Dam has 5 winners from 7 starters.
