Santa Anita Park Racing Analysis — Friday, January 11, 2019, by Hudson Davis

Meet total after two weeks for ROI now stands at +14.60. Hoping to bring that number up this week!

Race 1) #5 Secret Offer got trapped inside last time out on the turf. Trainer hasn’t had the best numbers so expect an odds float upwards and don’t let it deter you. #1 Big Base shows us a completely different trainer profile in Hollendorfer. Love Rosario here and expect the last effort to be indicative of a strong mile performance. #8 Gio Lula defines “hanging” in the spot she’s in. I don’t see her crossing the line first but using underneath seems like a smart move.

Race 2) #5 Sea Glass has been yelling at Charles Treece for the mile run and finally gets it today. Expect a noticeable improvement from this one and hopefully cash a win ticket! #7 Cee Sam’s Girl is the other half of the two that can make an impact at a mile. Not too far behind the five in my eyes and should make a competitive run. #3 Reinahermosa Is my pick for undernaths. I think this one has the best chance to hang tough with the top two.

Race 3) #1 Boujie Girl is my top pick in a phenomenal field. Feel like most of these runners in here could have competed in the recent Santa Ynez stakes. That being said, Bellafina and Chasing Yesterday have been beating up on this one as of late and She could find a little more to work with today. Good spot for Peter Miller and Figueroa here. #2 Qahira- no crazy opinions from me on this one. Debut was phenomenal and if she can build on it, could run away. #5 Noble Contessa- don’t let the tote board fool you here. A closing effort at Golden GatE can hold strong on this class jump. Use in multi race sequences! Has a chance.

Race 4) #11 Vegas Palm comes off an absolutely fantastic effort and if this one draws in with Mike Smith, then her mile and an eighth might just be the fastest. #3 Confidentiality is a first time turfer out of Tapit. Hasn’t blown anyone out of the water on the dirt but that storyline might change big time on the grass. #6 Decorating Had to make the trek out west for a guaranteed grass race. I expect this one’s past experience to pay dividends today.

Race 5) #4 Monydontspenitself is one I like enough to type out his name. Has been training well under Mark Glatt and might finally be able to get back to doing some damage on the dirt. #5 Little Scotty simply blows everyone out of the water class wise and that could be enough to beat this field.

Race 6) #1 Blame It On Rio seems to have been training for this exact race for his debut. This one could find the lead under a strong Joe Talamo and win at first asking for Dan Blacker. #2 Palaleo didn’t have a dream trip last out for his debut at Los Al and the trip should improve lots today. Don’t expect to get 6-1. # 5 Asano has shown that a mile won’t be his best distance. I expect the cut back to six and one half furlongs will do some good for him.

Race 7) #2 Hayden’s Havoc showed us his affinity for grass in the last outing and gets a little more distance today. It’s on the downhill course and shouldn’t be an issue. Should improve in a big way today. #6 Damiano out of Gio Ponti gets a shot on the turf. Could light up the tote board given Gio Ponti’s history adding on to the fact that he can already run a bit. #3 Urban Light– While all things point to go with this one and Rosario will give a good ride, I’m not convinced this D’Amato

Trainee has enough kick to cross the line first. That aside, Urban Light is a top contender.

Race 8) #1 Fools Paradise finds a much more realistic spot after getting beat by Vale Dori and Fatale Bere. This Pioneerof the Nile filly might cross the line wondering where all the others are. #2 Mo See Cal under Peter Miller finds a great spot to run in, utilizing the Cal Bred status and that puts her in a spot to run well. A 1-2 exacta wouldn’t surprise me much here.

Race 9) #1 She’s a Brewer will be my top pick in this WIDE OPEN field. Easy to forgive that first out effort and the conditions today will be a major change. Could be a threat. #5 Lucky Stepper looks like she was bred for this Cal Bred MSW. Sired by Lucky Pulpit with Street Cry in there as well, could have a lifetime winning % of 100 come the end of the race. #13 Derby Factor has been beaten by some impressive efforts. Throw her on the grass and something crazy just might happen!
