The return of Whitmore, today, at Oaklawn! Early part of the card is a little to be desired, but the better racing awaits us later in the day. Enjoy the race day at Oaklawn, and as always, let’s box a few and bet them!
I always love talking horses and handicapping. If I see anything during the race day follow me on Twitter @ BoxEmandBetEm and I’ll add up to minute info at Oaklawn Park.
Good luck and good racing!
Race 1) 1-4-3
Let’s get the day started with solid connections, the barn’s go to rider and a horse that likes Oaklawn. Second best last out, this one takes a slight class drop, has tactical speed and looks best to me. Second choice get a better post and wheels back quickly second off the layoff. I don’t like the rider switch on #4, She’s A Lucky One, but owns some back figs to make this one competitive here.
Race 2) 10-6-4
This race is an absolute head scratcher and I’m not going to spend a lot of time talking about it. Take as many as you can afford in here as I don’t have positive vibe with this one at all. I’ll take all the four-year old’s and hope I can get a price.
Race 3) 6-3-4
Jail move for Sadler and Hronis. Is 4/8 at the distance and has some nice works, while attracting Santana. Second choice, #3, The Red Dude goes second off the extended layoff, but it can be said this one runs better with moisture in the track. Toss anything from this barn at your own peril. Hollendorfer and Garcia team up with another second off the layoff horse that should be sitting just off the pace. This barn is cold and until it heats up, I will not pick in the top spot.
Race 4) 11-3-7
Much like the second race this is another race where I wouldn’t be shocked as to who the winner will be. Let’s move on.
Race 5) 9-1
Jail move for Diodoro, adds the hood and should get a cozy trip from a good post. Go to rider, Cohen, secures the mount; nice gate drill two back says this one will be ready for a barn that connects at 32% off the claim. D’ Rapper is dropping out of and overnight stakes race, has back class to draw from, and hits hard at the distance. Time for this barn to heat up and they could have their second win on the card here. Tactical speed this one will be involved from the start; will secure a good position and should have no excuse not to run well.
Race 6) 8-1-3
All the horses, in this race, are all coming off come type of extended layoff. Let’s try putting the pieces of this puzzle together. Let’s land on the lightly raced #8, La Renoleta, first time Asmussen and first time North America, while adding Lasix for the first time. Shows solid works and is 4 for 4 lifetime. Calf Moon Bay, #1, should save ground and has come back class to her. As mentioned previously, I’m going to wait for this barn to beat me, but looks second best here.
Race 7) 2-3-1
The #1 and #3 both like it on the engine. Both have to go and I think that will present some problems here. Let’s roll with the jail move for McKnight, Tracking Gold, who was off slow in last, will be second off the layoff and will have plenty of pace to close into.
Race 8) 4-1-8
Plenty of speed to chase, obviously loves Oaklawn and the distance, and will be ready to roll off the bench. When Asmussen fires bullets, in the morning, I pay attention. Share the Upside, #1, will have to roll out of the gate, but I think there’s enough speed on here to keep him honest. If catches a flyer, he could be gone, especially if the guy next door doesn’t get rolling.
Race 9) 4-6-1
Cowboy Larry Jones only wins first out at 7%, this one looks ready run today, as the two-back work, from the gate says go. Connections of the #6, Prairie Dress, run deep at Oaklawn. Should acquit herself very well here.
