Oaklawn Park Racing Analysis — Saturday, February 2, 2019, by Shawn Frank

Martha Washington day this Saturday at Oaklawn Park; let’s get some winners home and enjoy the day!

I always love talking horses and handicapping.  If I see anything during the race day follow me on Twitter @ BoxEmandBetEm and I’ll add up to minute info at Oaklawn Park.

Good luck and good racing!

Race 1) 7-5-2-10

Top pick, New Dancer, is in good form and takes a slight class drop here; has tactical speed and should get a good trip. Attain Success, second choice here, also takes a slight class drop and just missed last out.  #2, Dedicated, cuts back and attracts Ricardo. #10 drops the blinks after catching slop against overnight stakes runners as well.

Race 2) 10-4-2-7

This race has spread written all over it.  Though I don’t like the post at this 1 1/16 distance, but has enough speed to get into a good position before the turn.  Kings Revenge, #4, retains jock and trainer Young hits hard at this layoff and off the win in last. Totality has numbers to contend here and hopefully can regain some of the form this one showed prior, definitely needs a wake up.  #7, John Allen, comes in fresh and is worth a look with his speed. Again spread race for me.

Race 3) 12-5-3-4

Like the race prior, this one has the look of uncertainty, as well.  With zero confidence, I landed on the #12 Bourbon Soul, though the post at this distance is a negative.  I’m hoping his tactical speed can get him into a good spot early. Opportunistic is the second choice though Diodoro has opened the meet cold as a wedge.  Due to His Charm is in decent form and love the distance. You’ll know if this one is live as soon as the tote opens. #4, Uncle Pancho will outrun his odds at a price that is worth using under.

Race 4) 3-11-1

One of my better opinions on the card; like this Hartman charge is this race as Cabrera gets the call.  Key race as the winner and show horse have run back to win. Will get into the race early and sit a good trip.  #11, Eternal Force, is fresh and exits a race where the top three finishers won next out. Cozy outside post and get Ricardo in the saddle. #1 Rock n’ Candy, from the McKnight barn is logical as barn has started on fire.

Race 5) 12-5-8

#12 didn’t take a cent in debut, caught slop and since has been gelded.  Drops out of a maiden special weight affair, is a second start horse and should improve for Moquett who has great numbers MSW to MCL.  Blackjack Jedi, #5, adds the hood and lost to a couple of decent colts in Mr. Money and Manny Wah. I look for this horse to be closer to the pace today.  #8, drops out of MSW for the Asmussen barn.

Pick 4:  1,5/1,2,3,5,10/2,4,6/2,6,7,8,10

Race 6) 5-1-4-10

Top choice from the Amoss barn takes the drop and is second off the layoff, where Amos hits at 25%.  Has also run well at OP and is the speed of the race. #1, is part of the Diodoro entry that was in over his head last out.  Tactical horse will sit just off the #5; the question will be is he good enough to beat the top choice? Bubbas Dixie is pace dependent.  I don’t see this one getting enough pace to chase.

Race 7) 1-2-10-3

Top pick looks live.  Will save ground from the 1 hole and as mentioned earlier, the barn is hot to start meet.  #2, Rocky Tough, comes into this race second off the layoff and owns two wins over the OP strip.  This one will be coming late to the party. #10, Eisenstaedt, might need one off the bench. #3 has run some good races at OP and is reunited with De La Cruz who knows this on very well.

Race 8) 6-4-2

There should be pace in this edition of the Martha Washington.  Power Gal, #6, has caught an off track in the last two outs. She should like the stretch out to the mile as well, certainly is bred for it.  Sunset Wish ran well at the bull ring in last and if she can carry that form over to OP, she will hit hard here and is 2/2 at the distance as well.  Asmussen, off her maiden win is a must use as the barn is evidently confident off that maiden win.

Race 9) 2-10-8-7

Top choice get a rider upgrade to Cabrera here and has some nice figs to draw from.  Will save ground for the Hartman barn from a cozy inside draw. The #10 horse is intriguing beyond words.  Santana gets in the irons for a low profile barn. This one will outrun his odds in his second start, while taking money first out. Ricardo will have this one close to the pace.  #8, C Dub has been gelded and drops the hood as well. #7 is fresh for a barn that has run very well to start the meet.
