RACE 1
1 LETS LEAVE EM was used twice last week and was a respectable 3rd behind a drop down winner, the inside draw should help, but I wouldn’t want too short of a price, you won’t see that ML suggestion
2 DEWEYKEEPUMNWHY win last week was nothing special to the eye at 4-5, he looked beat for most of the mile, I’d be reluctant to back him right back at a short price tonight
3 ZEUS LIGHTNING figures to go favored in here off that mile last time, and he’s probably the right favorite, he’s just hard to rely on at a short price but it’s a good spot tonight
4 NIGHTONTHEROAD was bad in his last and had no chance on March 4th against tougher, if you think he didn’t like the track, it’s probably enough of an excuse to at least take a longer look as he figures to be in the 20-1 range tonight
5 WESTMONT is just not a horse I could ever back at anything close to 5-1, tremendous underlay
6 OLE JACK MAGIC has been getting impossible trip after impossible trip and it’s hard to see a scenario where it’ll be better tonight, can he win? Sure, but he’ll need a lot to go his way and the price won’t be that big I don’t think
7 TOUCHDOWN AS didn’t exactly get things his own way last week and still finished up well enough, he’s probably not classy enough to beat these from the outside but he figures to get lost in the wagering and the others have just as many question marks so it’s not like he’d be impossible
BOTTOM LINE: 1 OR 3 will probably win, but don’t offer much value, against the ML choice completely, will try 7 TOUCHDOWN AS if we get the 6-1 suggested (or 3.5x the price of the 2) he’s worth a punch
RACE 2
1, 2, OR 3 will win, I wish I knew who was going to be favored so I can toss that one, I don’t as I type this, but the Doubles will provide some help, watch the board before Race 1 and the start of the Pick 5. My wildest guess, 3 goes off favored on the drop.
RACE 3
1 FLY BEYOND should have won last week, those odds are gone, and you get a negative change at the pilot, really want to try to beat in this spot, but the rail and his current form give him a shot
2 QUADRANGLE is the talk of Twitter lately, will be backed once again tonight, he’s just camera shy, plain and simple, nothing about his last 3 miles whether it was a try, a no try, or a bad trip suggests he should be wagered on at a short number, not for me, toss
3 DERF HANOVER gets another driver change this week, he’ll probably win now bc I’m getting off the bandwagon, but the price is fair if you like
4 STORMONT CHARLOTTE got a sweet steer to get the money last week, expect to be shorter than last week in which I’d pass, but seems to get left alone more often than not, prefer others tonight but not impossible.
5 VEYRON has been consistent and I expect a good showing in here once again tonight, the price should be fair enough
6 MONOPOLY is an underlay, last time was the time, even if you get the same price, this field is tougher!!
BOTTOM LINE: Not much to bet in a 6 horse field, 5 VEYRON likely ends up the value horse, demand 9-2
RACE 4
4 SIR GALAHAD gets a big league driver change and that should be enough as he faces bottom level pacers tonight, tough to look past BUT is 0 for 10 over the track, will be short odds but probably not favored, as 6 PHIL THE THRILL should take that honor, but it may end up close. Pick one, but not both is my advice, in a game of gun to my head…..#4
RACE 5
3 FIXED IDEA won his first two starts and was probably most impressive in his last, and returns tonight as the ML choice having missed 3 weeks, have my reservations, he’ll be way out of it early and doesn’t have to win this race at what figures to be the 6-5 or less range
4 CAPITANO ITALIANO hinted at ability in the past and the 3 qualifiers seem to have the 3yo CaptainTreacherous gelding primed for his 2019 debut, I think the board will offer clues, don’t leave off your pick 5 tickets
The others are just “ok” and the 9 LEADER TONIGHT is the one I like most, but I don’t like the post or the pilot, so would need to see that 8-1 to even consider.
BOTTOM LINE: Most people will rely on the 3, but he doesn’t have to be ready to win tonight in this race.
RACE 6 PASS
RACE 7
2 BS TYRRIFIC might be an okay price tonight despite the drop in class, makes him more interesting
3 KWICKY KWANZAA was sharp last week, and changes barns once again and will surely have claims entered once again, I doubt you’ll get the 8-1 suggested but that would actually be about right, at anything lower I’d play against
4 MISTER GODRO is good enough to win, and his last was encouraging enough, Jody doesn’t hurt I don’t think, longshots chance for sure
7 GOLD STAR DIABLO hasn’t been good but this seems a bit softer than what he’s been facing, would probably need a form reversal to win, but likely gets lost in the wagering
BOTTOM LINE: This race doesn’t warrant a short price, 5 LEVY TAYLORE does not have to win off the barn change to Patrick Sheppard, 2-1 or less is too low.
RACE 8 (GREAT BETTING RACE)
1 ODD BALL is favored on the ML and I guess they’ll come for this horse off two blowout scores, but I don’t think he’s a lock by any stretch, and I think he could very well be beaten here at a short price
2 SHES GOT PIZAZZ almost stole another one last time out, in rock-solid form, would be no surprise, SHOULD go favored in this spot
4 TREASURED TEE qualified early last month behind Will Take Charge and tonight makes his 4yo debut, hinted at lots of ability as a 3yo, perhaps improves with age, the layoff the main concern, but this horse might turn out okay, watch the board for clues
6 BATTING STATS was actually pretty good last week, at 5-1 he’s a little interesting given that he proved himself worthy last week, can he repeat that effort though?
7 GALLANT MAN was good last week much to my surprise, I have no idea what to expect this week but with post 7 can’t imagine Sylvan is leaving, pass for sure at a short price
BOTTOM LINE: 1 AND 7 DON’T HAVE TO WIN, 2 & 6 should drift, 4 is a guess bc of the layoff, but wouldn’t be a shock to see an upset in here of one or both chalks.
