Laurel Park Racing Analysis — Sunday, February 24, 2019, by Jeff Byrnes

Race 1: CLAIMING $18,000 One Mile Picks: 3-6-1
Boom Boom Gone (#3): Winner at the $16,000 claiming level last time out, she now drops to #8,000 against winners for first time. Likely pacesetter and good figures coming in. Must use.
Starr Designer (#6): Drops to lowest level claimer of her career and will get a good pace to chase. Trainer is 23% when dropping two classes. Will be flying late.
Empire Panther (#1): Drops to lowest level of her career after two lack luster efforts in a row. Won at the $10,000 level three back and now faces much weaker. Has good speed but will sit mid pack, come with late run.

Race 2: MAIDEN CLAIMING $10,000 Seven Furlongs Picks: 2-6-10
Blue Danube (#2): Drops to the $10,000 level after competing for as high as $40,000. Trainer is 17% in maiden claiming races. Will get speed to chase and this is a weak bunch for him. Must use.
Stacksdenero (#6): Lacked maturity in debut but now comes in with experience. Trainer is 17% in dirt starts. Will be flying late.
I’mthetapitnow (#10): Drops to the $10,000 level after four straight off the board finishes. This is the lowest level of his career, outside post hurts, but with speed upfront and good position, he can have an upset chance.

Race 3: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING $50,000  6 1/2 Furlongs  Picks: 3-4-7
Sheikh of Sheikhs (#3): Comes in off a 2nd place run in a stakes last time out and has two wins in five starts at Laurel. He is the class of the field and should get a good trip. Good speed and favorable track.
Mr. Brix (#4): Leading trainer brings this gelding in and has three seconds in last five starts. Will be among the pace setters. Runs fast races and is consistent.
Measured (#7): 1st or 2nd in four of his last six races and has faced these before. Trevor McCarthy is aboard for the first time in a big plus. Will get a live pace to run at.

Race 4:  MAIDEN CLAIMING $10,000 One Mile  Picks: 11-2-1
Hey Mabel (#11): Second in last two starts and good beyer speed figures throughout her career. Outside post is tough, but she has faced and beaten a lot of these before. She will be coming late and should have enough.
Spooky Truth (#2): Comes in off a wide trip but a better run last time out. Trainer is 33% 2nd after the claim and 25% in maiden claiming. Can get a good inside trip and save ground. One mile should be a perfect distance.
Hard Rockin Blues (#1): Inside post and good speed, stumbled last time and lost all chance. Should improve at this level.

Race 5: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING $50,000 5 1/2 Furlongs Picks: 2-7-6
Honor Way (#2): Drops in class after back to back stakes runs. She ships in from New York and gets Trevor McCarthy for the first time. Trainer is 26% on dirt and should have god speed from the inside.
Majestic Won (#7): Has thrived since coming to Laurel with two wins and a second in three starts. Has sped to the outside and will show it. Trainer is 26% with last out winners and 23% in allowance races. Must use.
Adios Annie (#6): Has three wins and eight top three runs in nine starts at Laurel Park. Brings tough and consistent record to this race and has good jockey/trainer combination. Longshot chance.

Race 6: MAIDEN CLAIMING $50,000 – $40,000 5 1/2 Furlongs Picks: 4-8-6
Suyapa (#4): Ran much better when dropped to the $50,000 level last time out. Trainer is 22% in maiden claimers and 16% in dirt starts. Will be the likely speed in here and should have the class to prevail.
Bunting (#8): Drops to maiden claiming ranks for the first time, where the trainer is 15%. Will sit mid pack and come with a late run. Good work coming in and a strong jockey/trainer combination.
Two Sixteen (#6): Drops to claiming level and at a preferred distance. Has front end speed and will try and stay there.

Race 7:  ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING $50,000 5 1/2 Furlongs Picks: 2-4-5

Knock Out Kid (#4): In the superfecta in seven straight races and has two wins in that spam, mid pack horse who gets going late. Will have a hot pace to run into.
Lawn Dart (#5): The speed of the field and can use it to go a long way. Has good numbers and trainer is 32% with horses first time in their barn. Ready to go.

Race 8:  CLAIMING $5,000 5 1/2 Furlongs Picks: 9-6-2
Accusing (#9): Good speed figures and solid jockey/trainer combination. Trainer is 18% in claiming and sprints. Will get pace to chase and come late.
Lord of Misrule (#6): Needs a good break unlike in his last race, and now he gets Trevor McCarthy aboard again. Solid speed figures and speed to his inside. Good chance.
