Race 1: MdClm $10k F&M 5 & ½F
1st: #3 One Odd Story, sad, sad choice here, a 3-5 ML favorite who is 0-12 lifetime and has only hit the board 4 of 12 times. Has shown ability early most consistently, beat 7 rivals last time, gets 5 lb weight allowance. Sad but the pick here.
2nd: #5 Variance, tough to make a case for this one on top, but does have the second highest career Beyer in the field though it was last September. Last two have faded badly.
3rd: #6 Expect Talk, 0-14 lifetime, has only hit the board once, shortens up here today? I don’t know.
Race 2: Clm $12.5k 1M
1st: #3 Even Thunder, this one heading in the right direction according to the Beyer figs, shortens back up this time from 2 turns, Has the back class of the field once placing in a nice stakes event at Delaware earning a 90 Beyer just a length behind the great Mass-bred Dr. Blarney.
2nd: #1 Earned It, always close at or around this class level. Only 5 wins in 43 lifetime appearances.
3rd: #4 Theyallcomehome, gradual improvement in figures, class drop today from last out. Usually competitive at this level.
Race 3: MdClm $10k F&M 5 & ½F
1st: #2 Bless the Rains, career best effort in February before the layoff, drops to lowest level of her career. Must have been a private purchase by Anthony Farrior who has had this one on the bench for nearly a year. Notably, Farrior is 2 for 3 with horses 180+ days off.
2nd: #5 Just for Spite, been breezing for Trombetta consistently but have to assume he doesn’t think too much of this filly who is starting at the very bottom level.
3rd: #7 Honorable Profit, Potts wasn’t able to improve this one much after moving from New Yory. Gets the 10lb weight allowance again.
Race 4: Clm $12.5k 1M
1st: #1 Can He Shine, two straight very subpar performances after the long layoff, but note they both came on a wet track. Improved considerably from first to second time back which follows similar pattern as the last time he was laid off. Notice from Feb 18 to Dec 18 he was away and it took him two attempts to regain form the third attempt was his maiden breaking score beating 10 rivals at 17-1. So this is his third time back, he’s improving on figures, dropping in class, and oh yeah gets the 10lb bug.
2nd: #4 Cort’n Asong, goes from the 10lb bug to the top local pilot, has 3 straight figures in the 70s, will need the lead. Love the mile drill last out.
3rd: #6 Monkey’s Medal, honest to goodness 99 year old who has hit the board in 7 of his last 12 with 3 wins. Should make his run late.
Race 5: MdSpWt $40k 3 Year Olds 6F
1st: #1 Amen Corner, chose this one on debut and he didn’t run all that much, but I’m confident given the connections there will be improvement and getting on dry dirt should help. The favorite should be well over-bet coming off the DQ’d win.
2nd: #6 Annamated Moon, significant improvement from the event at Pen has me a bit skeptical, perhaps just really loved the mud.
3rd: #5 Souper Chohiba, second foal out from Live Oak Plantation mare Lady Cohiba, her first still hasn’t been at the track as a 4 year old. Has been breezing steadily for Trombetta.
Race 6: Clm $5k F&M 1M
1st: #2 Ravenel, there is simply zero speed in this field and I’m hoping this one gets a fair run from toward the front of the pack. If she runs her race she will be there late.
2nd: #3 Postino’s Secret, just 1-17 locally but has shown ability to make late runs.
3rd: #4 Nana’s Shoes, I guess favored based on connections and class drop? Horse is going in the wrong direction ever since the late summer.
Race 7: Alw $42k 6 & ½F
1st: #4 Kingston Pike, has finished top 2 in 6 straight starts and this distance seems perfect for him. Slight step-up in class but love his style.
2nd: #6 Hero’s Hope, 2nd by just a head when attempting this same class last out after some wins in claiming company.
3rd: #5 Cheytac, consistently solid mid-to-upper 70s figures, slight drop back in distance should help.
Race 8: Clm $5k 1M
1st: #8 All Clear, dead-red closer moving into the Claudio Gonzalez barn. A lot of speed will be contending up front, this one gets a little extra distance today, love his chances to close em out late.
2nd: #1 Pep Talking, willing to run close to leaders and sometimes push them, depending on how hot it gets he has a chance.
3rd: #4 Blue Danube, a member of the aforementioned speed, don’t think he’ll get away easy, but if he does he could finish. Most likely he burns out earlier.
