Race 1: MdClm $25k 2 Year Olds 1M
1st: #5 Promising Pistol, back in at this level for Claudio Gonzalez after nipping at the door a couple times recently.
2nd: #4 Overpower, showing improvement, gets added ground after a third place finish at 27-1.
3rd: #6 Get There John
Race 2: StrAlw $5k F&M 6F
1st: #6 Lonely Drifter, 7 straight wins at multiple tracks and winner of 8 of 13 races lifetime at Laurel. Can’t pick against.
2nd: #1 Yes I Dance, winner of 4 straight.
3rd: #3 Truly Hot
Race 3: Clm $12.5k 7F
1st: #4 Awesome Fu, most recently a winner at Charles Town in allowance company. Gets Trevor McCarthy today.
2nd: #6 Sir Alfred
3rd: #5 Miner’s Quest
Race 4: MdClm $25k 1M Turf
1st: #6 Sky D, Jane Cibelli shipping this one down again after a solid 2nd place effort in the first off the bench. Second back should improve.
2nd: #5 Burning Man, Arnaud Delacour and Trevor McCarthy team up here in what will likely be the heavy favorite. Don’t like his inability to match his best Beyer which came in the debut down at Tampa over the winter. Obviously a major player regardless.
3rd: #10 Yes Means No
Race 5: Clm $12.5k 5 & 1/2F Turf
1st: #4 Bust Another, the likely beneficiary of the early pace duel that should play out ahead of him is this one that Ness/McCarthy team up on. Pace setters have dubious stamina records.
2nd: #2 The Great Provider, figure Trevor could’ve ridden this one back if he wanted, 1 for 14 on turf, he may be looking for it to get washed off.
3rd: #6 Not a Chance, member of early speed scenario.
Race 6: OC$50k F&M 5 & 1/2F Turf
1st: #5 Munificient, second off the bench for this one who ran solidly in her first back chasing a heavy pace going 5F. 3 decent trips over this turf, hoping for a solid price here with bigger names in the field.
2nd: #8 Escapade, Jonathan Thomas ships this one down from New York. Last seen in an allowance win at Gulfstream over the winner where she earned a huge 87 figure for her effort. Counting on her not being ready today. Plenty of published breezes but the times don’t exactly light you up. If ready should win going away.
3rd: #7 West Coast Bias, year off but really like the breezes published.
Race 7: OC$25k 6F
1st: #1 Studio B, three really nice efforts in a row including a career best 85 Beyer in his last. Gets top local pilot McCarthy today.
2nd: #4 Sunman, going against the 7-5ML favorite who has been right behind a couple of stakes winners Win Win Win and Wendell Fong in the past year. What’s the excuse for such a poor last effort?
3rd: #3 Jorrin
Race 8: MdClm $25k 6F F&M
1st: #2 Passion’s Image, Claudio Gonzalez trainee with highest figures in the field. What else is there to say? Narrowly missed last out at $30k level.
2nd: #5 Live Aid, early speed.
3rd: #1 Hide, first blinks, stepping down.
