Laurel Park Racing Analysis — Saturday, August 10, 2019, by Chris Woods

Race 1: MdClm $25k F&M 5 & 1/2F Turf

1st: #8 Tempted By Tito’s, second start back at three, this daughter of Temple City is bred for turf and will be among the early pace setters. Was short going only 5F in her first out but stamina should be better today and drop from MdSpWt to today’s class is considerable.

2nd: #6 Suzette Star, best race of her life last out when she got on the turf and added blinkers for the first time setting the pace but getting passed in the stretch by just a half length. Adds lasix today. Should be post time favorite.

3rd: #3 Merry Maid, got biggest figure of her career on switch to turf last out and made up 5 lengths in the stretch. Could be a winner if pace falls apart.

Include 4-2 for superfecta play.

Race 2: Clm $5k 5 & 1/2F

1st: #2 Crazed, Pecoraro got the biggest figure of his career and biggest in the field in the last out and almost got there at $6250. Drops to bottom level today.

2nd: #5 Higher Purpose, has won at this level recently and the two back restricted allowance effort wasn’t embarrassing although he was clearly out classed.

3rd: #1 Bobo Jones, has made up lengths in the stretch consistently in his career.

Race 3: MdSpWt $40k 2 Year Olds F&M 1M Turf

1st: #5 Lucky Jingle, debut effort up at Saratoga was a respectable 3rd when going slightly longer in a race with a purpose more than twice as large. Beyer came back decent, should improve today.

2nd: #9 Dixie Cannon, Kelly Rubley horse whose debut effort came going short and the running line screams more distance needed. Beyer came back a little light.

3rd: #1 Melissani, Stidham trainee making her debut today was bought as a yearling for $150k at Keeneland September last year. Couple of bullet drills at Fair Hill.

2-4-6 round the superfecta play.

Race 4: Str Alw $5k F&M 1M

1st: #7 Lonely Drifter, we picked this one on top last Saturday but she scratched. Winner of 7 in a row and 8 of 13 lifetime at Laurel Park, there is absolutely no way to pick against her. 8-5ML but I’d assume she goes off below even money.

2nd: #5 Neyami, last out a winner by a whopping 9 lengths over a fast Pen track, step up in class today. Always mindful of Ness.

3rd: #1 Bring Me Answers, actually has the two highest Beyers in the field a couple of 70s including the last out.

2 rounds out the superfecta.

Race 5: Clm $16k F&M 5 & 1/2F Turf

1st: #3 Friesing Waters, cleverly named filly trained by Mike Trombetta just broker her maiden last out at $25k. This is the appropriate spot and I’m wary to pick their first against winners on top but her speed figures are simply higher than the rest of the field.

2nd: #4 Veil Dance, decent closer. Has some back class.

3rd: #1 War Tweet, has been close a number of times since dropping into claiming company, decent Beyers.

Race 6: Alw $42k 1 & 1/16thM Turf

1st: #2 Captain Thunder, today will be his second back as a 4 year old after the attempt off the bench was a solid one earning a 71 Beyer and showcasing closing ability going short. Campaigned for Mark Casse last year who thought highly enough of him to try open stakes company and he ran respectably. Should move up today.

2nd: #9 Posterity, two really close finishes at this condition in his last two earning the two best Beyers in the field including a 77 in the most recent.

3rd: #8 My Brothersledge, Trombetta trainee just won in restricted allowance company last out. This is a considerable step up in class from those events.

Race 7: Alw $55k 6F Turf

1st: #4 Oldies But Goodies, last out a winner in the state bred Ben’s Cat earning a whopping 94 Beyer wiring the field going slightly shorter. Trombetta training this one well over at Fair Hill, probably would be a candidate for Saratoga if this nice allowance event didn’t go.

2nd: #5 Square Shooter, Englehart trainee doesn’t seem to have a passing gear in the stretch, but consider the three back G2 event where he finished just 3 lengths behind some of the best turf sprinters in America in Imprimis and Bound For Nowhere.

3rd: #2 Mai Ty One On, Jane Cibelli always so dangerous shipping down from Monmouth, this one has thrown big Beyers and been racing in top class allowance events.

Race 8: Clm $16k 1M

1st: #1 Tattered, forwardly placed in a couple allowance events recently dropping far down the class ladder to this level.

2nd: #3 Road to Oz, was just passed going two turns over at Delaware at this level, should appreciate one turn mile.

3rd: #6 Hunca Rock, lightly raced 5 year shifts back to the surface of his maiden-breaking score.

Race 9: Clm $16k 6F Turf

1st: #5 War Stroll, didn’t quite get there last out going slightly shorter but did earn a nice 72 Beyer. Should appreciate more ground.

2nd: #2 Keep Talking, missed by 2 lengths last out in a $25k StrAlw. Has the highest Beyer in the field an 86 this spring in Louisiana.

3rd: #3 Grandiflora, decent performer stepping down from OC$25k events.

1 rounds out the Superfecta.
