Keeneland Racing Analysis — Thursday, April 18, 2019, by Shawn Murphy

Looks like a great day at Keeneland, earlier in the week look like it might be a rainy day but when I checked Wednesday afternoon looks like it’ll be a nice day maybe rain later on in the evening.

Race 1

7- Talent Scout – this four-year-old is been away for a long time after an impressive first time out back in 2017. Transfers to the Joe Sharp barn after his initial stint with Baffert. Sharp has done very well with long layers and if this horse is in shape, he should win here.

4- Examiner – had a couple nice races in Kentucky last fall with a follow up on the turf at Gulfstream late in the year. He had some nice speed figures in those fall races when going first time blinkers and looking for a repeat of one of those efforts.

5- Laser Loop – did not like the turf and returns back to a shorter distance on the dirt and there’s a first time claimer. The works have been good and I like his race November 23 at Churchill for a reference.

Race 2

5- Snake River Road – Ward, early 2 yr old, Keeneland, enough said

6- Joker on Jack- see above

4- Rag Tag- Pletcher first timer has been working very well and has a 23% win percentage with first timers. JR has done well for this outfit in the past.

Race 3

6- Verona – comes in from California for this marathon turf outing. She looks like she can run all day and a big statistic is the trainer is 32% off these layoffs.

4- Finess Bere – The last two earlier in the year in Florida are quite attractive, as she finished well and had very nice speed figures.

5- Kittens Slew – another that is bread and bread to run all day and should not find the distance a problem. Good value it 15 to 1 in the morning line and should be able to hang around long enough to be a share.

Race 4

4- Noble Companion- his last three are all quality races. Comes back to the dirt and drops down below his recent purchase price. I think the distance and this field play in his favor, and he should be able to win this one at fairly low odds.

9- Sarcillo – comes in with lots of experience and drops down once again after racing well in three of his last four. These were on the turf but did quite well and a much higher level on the dirt late last year.

1- View Magic – The lightly raced three year old comes into this race off a claim in New Orleans. The last three speed figures match up well with this group and the trainer shows a 36% win percentage with recent claims.

Race 5

3- Desert Ride – I’m a sucker for the Ontario breds and this one looks really good. She’s had two great races at the Fair Grounds and looks to continue her strong efforts here.

7- Gallovie – This three-year-old has come in from California obviously wanting to race. Her first race is at Santa Anita was very  well run and judging by the detail in her line she would’ve done better if she didn’t have to steady in the lane.

4- Gambling Train- Has had five straight quality races on the turf and can easily run back to any of those. She will be coming on late as she did in her recent stake engagement.

Race 6

1- Holdonaminit – I hope she doesn’t hold on at all and just keeps going. Trying blinkers after her initial start where she was bent down coming from a quality organization. There should be some value here and my only concern is breaking from the rail.

2- Miss Lady Locker – looks like she could be a good first timer from a quality connection. Has shown some good works leading up to this first start. Will definitely get value on this four year-old.

3- ward Will have this three-year-old ready to roll from the beginning after three straight quality five furlong works.

Race 7

8- Righteous Ruby – this horse likes to travel as this is her fourth track in four races. What caught my eye was the first race at Mountaineer in December 2018 where she came from behind and won easily. It looks like there’s a lot of cheap speed in this race and I think Ruby could come flying at the end at this reduced level.

7- So Aristocratic- travels here from Oaklawn and again reduces her value for this tilt. Should be out front early just hoping to stay the distance.

5- British Invader – off the claim for Amos and he hits at 33% with this angle. Should be forwardly placed just off the lead looking for that second time score.

Race 8

4- Fooch – Ward will have this one sprinting from the get go. I love the workouts leading up to this first race since October, and Ward has done very well recently. Not sure what kind of price she’ll get but anything around 3 to 1 is good.

3- Master Guns – I love those first two turf races earlier last year and this four-year-old should do well getting back on the lawn. His last race is a concern but I think getting back to sprinting on the turf is more his style.

5- Get Western – Will be sitting just off the pace of the four end of the four fades as he has done recently it might set up well for this horse. This $1000.0 yearling purchase should be there at the end.

Race 9

2- Afleet Jett – I had this one in my wait list from his last race at Turfway. Not a big fan of the rider but I think you should be able to get at least 10 to 1 in the last race of the day.

3- Tune In – shows up for a high-quality outfit with lots of works behind him. Will more than likely be the favorite here and you should watch the tote board for Clues.

5- Wild Road – definitely shows consistency for trainer Stewart and will look for the same here. His last three should compare well with this group and note that he has been bet well in his last four.

Enjoy and giddy up!
