Race 1
1st #3 Starting Point is ridden by Jose Ortiz and trained by Bill Mott. He’s got a third place finish this year, when he came back from an eleven month layoff and ran a really respectable third place finish at Churchill. Now that he’s had an out, the WinStar Farm runner should be back in action.
2nd #7 Island Song has seven outs this year and has accumulated over $40K in a couple of second and third place finishes. This fella is going for his eighth start and it would be nice to see him get a win after a couple of nice recent performances at Ellis.
3rd #8 Not Fade Away is the Brad Cox trainee who is making his debut at almost four years old. His dam was a multiple graded stakes place mare, and his sire Maclean’s Music has some talented babies. His works are decent, Florent Geroux is aboard.
Race 2
1st #3 Bank only lost by two lengths in his debut. It was a tough Churchill maiden special weight. His dam Speed Succeeds was unraced, but his sire Bernardini is a top stallion. He was a $275,000 purchase.
2nd #4 Elite Class really improved in his last race. I think he can continue the good luck and continue to improve. His dam Composition was stakes placed, and Will Take Charge was quite the runner. He could someday be as successful as his bloodlines.
3rd #6 Lucky Curlin has a cool breeding backstory. John Oxley owned (maybe still does) the grand dam, who was multiple graded stakes placed. The dam of this fella is unraced, but is a homebred, and so is he. Three generations of racing and breeding. Three starts, three excellent efforts for this one.
Race 3
1st #2 My Sixth Sense was able to unwind from the eleventh place finish and come back with two thirds and a second. I think here is the time for the Mike Maker gelding to notch his first win for the year. Javier Castellano is aboard.
2nd #10 Armchair Jockey’s only off the board finish for this year from four starts was a seventh place finish last out at Churchill. Before that, a really respectable second place finish at Kentucky Downs. Although this race is tough, he stands a good chance.
3rd #3 Untraceable is coming off of a win from almost a month ago at Churchill. He’s had a pretty good year with only three starts, the worst was a fourth place finish. To see him win on a seven month layoff was impressive.
Race 4
1st #7 Hardly a Secret’s last performance was quite odd for him. To quit early wasn’t really something he does. He’s had such a good year that it was really surprising. Besides that, he’s an excellent year with three wins and some on the board finishes.
2nd #2 Malibu Pro is a multiple stakes placed horse who mainly campaigns in Minnesota. His third place finish a month ago at Canterbury was good, and he’s had a month off now so he should be feeling good. He’s only ran at Keeneland once, and wasn’t on the board.
3rd #6 Starship Zeus has come back to Kentucky for the first time in almost two years. He ran at Churchill last out and finished second. It’s nice to see him back and would be great to see him success as he continues to settle back into the place that kicked off his career.
Race 5
1st #2 Queenofcatniphill had her first run at Kentucky Downs like a couple of these gals and actually did pretty well. Fifth place doesn’t say much to many, but it’s the effort that counts and she put forth a nice one.
2nd #8 Wicked Valentine goes out for Mike Stidham and Mitchell Murrill. She’s got two outs at Arlington, and her first race was a second place finish. The next one was a fifth, but she looks to improve here. Another nice steal for $15K.
3rd #11 Queens Embrace running at Kentucky Downs for her career kickoff was a challenge no matter what. I’m hoping to see her do well, especially since she was only a $10K purchase so it’s fun to root for ones like these.
Race 6
1st #5 Stillwater Cove is an excellent mare. Quality breeding too, her dam is by Broken Vow who has consistent quality runners, and her sire is Quality Road who already has ten grade one winners. She’s a stakes winner, looking for her first win this year from four starts.
2nd #7 Change of Control has made over $120K this year alone, and has been shipping around for stakes races out east. Now she’s back in Kentucky, coming out of the stakes races and going into a field that she looks pretty good in.
3rd #10 Paper Clip ran a really nice second in an allowance at Saratoga two back, and then won at Kentucky Downs after. It was a great effort. She’s a consistent, likeable filly who is trained by Wesley Ward.
Race 7
1st #1 Telephone Talker kicks off his debut as a homebred for the Ramsey’s. They raced the dam, Kathern’s Kitten, who did well at the track for them making $84K. He’s trained by Chad Brown.
2nd #9 Predator has been working out great for Brad Cox. A $175K purchase from WinStar, he shares the same stallion as Risk Profile and out of a Distorted Humor mare.
3rd #3 Risk Profile makes his first start here for Chad Brown, and it’s difficult to not choose horses he trains. He is by Into Mischief out of an unraced dam by Trippi. He was purchased for $260K.
Race 8
1st #1 Hotshot Anna is a multiple graded stakes winner who’s traveled nearly everywhere and won. She’s racked up $863,440 in earnings, and she’s going for her fourth stakes win in a row. Just an impressive mare.
2nd #3 Rocky Policy is a multiple stakes winner who is very accomplished, and has earnings of $410,409. Phenomenal earnings for a Maryland bred. She’s just coming out of a stakes win at Parx.
3rd #5 May Lily is a Broken Vow mare who’s a stakes winner. Broken Vow is a sire loved by many. He always has runners and they are rarely the bottom level claiming horses. She just won a stakes two back.
Race 9
1st #4 The Rock Says is a Maryland bred, homebred, who’s never raced in his home state. He did well at Saratoga in a couple of allowance races. He started racing this year, and his worse finish was a fourth place at Saratoga last out. Good efforts from this one.
2nd #4 Mo Zone is the Eddie Kenneally trainee who actually won at Saratoga two back. And then came back to run a respectable third place in an allowance at Churchill.
3rd #1 Carte Blanche just won a starter allowance at Churchill last out. Out of eight races, his worst finish was a seventh place in his first race at Indiana Grand, and that was his first race and a long time ago. A good, consistent runner.
